Rating: Summary: Highly Addictive and A Test of Your Patience and Skill Review: I've been playing WWIIOL from just about it's public release and I find it to be both fun and frustrating. The fun is when you're in the midst of "action" and things are going on around you that make your heart skip a beat. You see tracers, hear the pounding of shells and machine gun fire, and just about feel the tanks roll by you. Working with a team is the best way to enjoy the game, and by joining a "squad" you can do just that. But you can "lonewolf" it too, and just join an impromptu group for a night of fun. The frustration (which lessens with each patch) is the lack of a complete set of equipment, the bugs that occur from time to time, and the amount of time it takes to find combat in game during off-peak times. The price has come down now, so if you want to give it a go, I'd recommend it. A warning is that it does have high computer requirements (though not as high relative to the market as when it was released), and you'll want to have at least 512 Mb of RAM, and a 32- or 64-bit Video Card. Also, a joystick is a must. Hope to see you on the virtual battlefield! :)
Rating: Summary: A Game With Staying Power Review: I often buy new computer games, load them on my systems, play them for a while and then delete them when I get bored. WWIIOL has always been loaded on my system. I've never deleted it because its fun every time. This is by far the best computer game I've ever purchased. I'm happy to support CSR every month even when I'm unable to get the time to play. Been there since day one and I'll be there as long as I'm able.
Rating: Summary: Serious Simulation for All Review: WWIIOL is a dream come true for all those who have become tired of Battlefield 1942's mono-dimensional gameplay. To qualify for being a WWIIOL gamer you should probably have a good deal of time and patience on hand, but it's a game that is constantly evolving and gives even the experienced player a new dimension to explore. WWIIOL offers a combination of air-sea-ground combined arms at its finest...beyond the confines of an arena-based environment. If you're tired of fighting bots, PKs, and snipers, try WWIIOL.
Rating: Summary: Best game I've ever played Review: When I first heard that World War 2 Online was coming out, I was extremely excited to see it. I read the initial reviews and didn't bother to get it. However, a friend of mine in college was playing it and I saw that I had to pick it up. I have been playing for well over a year now (and I cant say that about any other game!) and am completely amazed that each patch that comes out brings better gameplay and better functionality. The equipment in the game is great. CRS has done an outstanding job with the graphic and damage modeling of each piece. The people in the game are the best community out there and will help even the newest player learn this very complex game. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a game with a great community and a great base.
Rating: Summary: Realistic, not arcade... Review: GREAT Game. Been playing for 2 years, improves every month. If you are looking for an arcade shooter, this game is NOT for you. If you want realistic massively multiplayer combat, give it a try

Rating: Summary: Virtual Battlefield Bliss Review: After a crummy release, Cornered Rat Software turned this title around. Now, this is by far the best game I have ever played. Just to give you an idea on how large the scope of this game really is, the game-world is Europe modeled to half-scale. It's simply incredible. You have to play it to believe it. It is more difficult than most games, and takes patience - because it is a more realistic battlefield simulation. This is not quake.
Rating: Summary: Great game only getting better Review: I have been playing this game since it's day of release. It by far is one of the most addictive and impressing computer games I have found to date. I like playing DoD, BF1942 and others, but this game offers what those cannot. A completely persistant world of conflict. Realistic models and damage models. The sheer size of the game is awe inspiring at the very least. It's the only game I've ever played that keeps me addicted toplaying more and more. Well worth the monthly fee and cheaper if you pay for 3 or 6 month blocks of membership. Cons: Graphics are out dated. It's not a bad looking game, but it's not quite as cinimatic as others out there at the moment. MOHAA/BF1942 -- this however is a direct result of WWIIOL having a 3km view distance while those games maybe have a 1/4km. For new players, learning how to control vehicles can be a challenge. CRS makes you drive the tank. You must turn the tank on. Put it in gear, press the accelerator. BF1942 has the always-on tanks and nothing more complex than that. This game is NOTHING of what it was upon release. It's stable, complex, engaging and despite what the nay-sayers do say -- it's doing just fine subscription wise. Their's always action to be found at any given moment. Give it a chance if your thinking about it. It's well worth it.
Rating: Summary: Awesome at first, but it's faults become a major issue later Review: After having playing WWIIOL since it's release, I have come to find out quite a bit about not only the historical faliscies this game has, but also the lack of appropriate management from CRS that *could* make it a good game. Forenote: This game is susposed to be a SIMULATION, not an ACTION/ARCADE game, so the importance of HISTORICALLY ACCURATE and REALISM are important factors in what this game *should* be... So if that doesn't fit your taste, try Bf1942 or MoHAA instead. And if you think a realistical game is somehow stupid and lame and wont work, take a look at Combat Mission and see how successful that series was and still is. 1) The 5 star ratings you see here are people who have only played it for a very short period of time, or are the people who are the fan boys, ganging together, to try and save their game (look at the # of reviews). 2) The community, in general, is just plain nasty. The frustration caused by just playing the game is easily seen on how players from the Axis and Allied sides continually do nothing more than tear one another up in the forums. Not only in the forums, but if you play the game without somehow playing with a team, performing mind-blowing tactics, and wind up dieing, the players will literrally tear you apart for "wasting equipment", and "not respecting the spawn pool"... ... The players treat the community as their own pissing ground, as if they have the right to tell off other people because they aren't playing the game to some high-held morale expectation... 3) The game itself has many faliscies associated with equipment sets... (as mentioned above, REALISM is an important factor in simulation games) To name a few: No AP40 in German tanks (which are already at a drastic disadvantage in terms of armor and firepower comparred to the Allied biggies like the Char and Mattilda), no Episcopes (sight devices) in the French APX turrets (which optic's are already narrow enough), unrealistic deployment of forces (highly comparitive to WWI trench warfare, this game does not reflect what WWII is known for - specifically massed armor forces & mobile (non-static) warfare), unrealistic flight model, unrealistic HE model, unrealistic damage models (in terms of different armor types, cast - homogenous rolled - and face hardened), 1-man turrets not modelled appropriately, poor turret rings on French tanks simply not modelled at all, far too many French scout cars in spawn pool (German recon vehicle advantage simply not modelled), British tanks not outfitted with CS variants (HE and Smoke variants), the list goes on and on... Obviously, some of these things are harder to fix than others, some are more important than others, but where the problem really occurs is how CRS refuse to address any of the above problems with viable solutions in the short term... You see, they are more concerned with adding new additions to the game than fixing what is already there... Thats what makes the above mentioned so drastically gameplay altering - it isn't going to be fixed at any constant rate! 4) After the introduction of a "time-line", where newer vehicles are introduced as time goes on, CRS had the "great idea" of working on a "year" scale, rather than a "month" scale... Why this has become such an important issue is because the Germans had PzIIIJs with the long barreled 5cm by the end of 41, but are only given the short 5cm PzIIIH model (early 41 outfit) in the game, where as the British are given the Crusader, which did not make it's debute historically untill later in 41... What this causes is an unrealistic outfit of equipment relative to introductory dates... This itself has caused a massive uproar of players who are simply P.O.ed from the stupidity of making such a move... Its not that its unfair moreso than it is historically INACCURATE, which is a major violation of what a SIMULATOR is based on. This is fine for the ones who just play a game that way its made, but for the ones (like me) who want a REALISTICAL simulator of WWII, this game simply DOES NOT satisfy that need in any way, shape, or form. 5) In conclusion, this game has lost all it's ability at becomming something *good*. The game idea has so many great promises, but CRS simply are not attacking it in a way that makes sense. EA, 3DO, you name it, could do a 10x better job. This game isn't all its cracked up to be, and after you play it for a while, you come to find out just how moronically stupid the designers have become with the management of whats implemented, whats added, etc etc. Sure, go ahead and try playing it, and you will eventually catch on to what Im trying to say... Myself and many of my friends I have met playing this game have all simply STOPPED playing because of the excessive stupidity and lack of foresight and integrity CRS constantly shows. In my humble opinion, a trained monkey could make better decisions than the people at CRS, and for that lone reason, this game, in the end, is doubtfully one of the most FRUSTRATING and HORRIBLE games you could ever play. If I were you, I would definately be looking forward to other titles like Halo on PC, CMAK, etc. SAVE YOUR MONEY, SAVE YOUR SANITY!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent but needs maturity Review: It's easy - there is and probably will be for a long time no other on line game that offers a WWII simulation on a tactical/strategical level in a persistant world where the war takes place 24/24 . It is not blue against red like Counterstrike or 1942 . It is not Quake and it is not any other mindless shooter . It is a war with historical material both on land and in the air (Char B1 bis , Bofors , Spitfire , Me 109 , Panzer 38 , Sturmegschutz III , 88mm Flak and dozens more) and taking place on a huge map covering Europe from the Alps to GB and from Germany to Paris . Scale is 1/2 and the geography is accurate . However to enjoy this unique game , you need what it takes - namely patience and organisation . Patience because to mount an attack that succeeds it is needed to gather forces , transport infantery , set up artillery , get the planes on CAP above target , prepare bomber flights . It takes time and people who want to rush to an immediate action and begin shooting are only rewarded by immediate death . But people who have the patience are rewarded by an extraordinary sense of accomplishment . Organisation because this game is a real time simulation of big scale warfare . It matters what happens on every place of the front and an efficient chain of command with skilled officers and disciplined units is the condition for victory . It doesn't matter if Joe Quaker gets 10 times more kills than Bill Striker , what matters is teamwork and a good thinker is 10 times worth a good sniper . For that reason also , it is almost mandatory to belong to a good well organised squad to enjoy the game at its highest level . There is place for lone wolves too but they almost only get the action part of the game . So if you have what it takes , WWIIOL is most definitely one of the best games for you .
