Summary: The plain truth....
Review: I bought the game on its June 6th release date and was very excited to see it in action. However it is now June 9th and the company's servers are having many troubles. I have consistently tried to log on in hopes of seeing this wonderful game (so everyone is telling me) and have not succeded. There are already 3 patches for the game available for download, including a 70 meger, and it still wont get your game working correctly. To put it simply... If you buy this game you must realize that you will be a forced beta tester for this gaming company. They will charge you money so that you can sit in front of your machine and report the many problems that you will face.

Not very professional.

If you question my review or want further details then you MUST check out the forum offered at the game's website. You will be amaized of the number of complaints you read!

Summary: Wait until the kinks are worked out.
Review: The game has potential but at the time of this writing (5/8/01), the multiplayer servers seem to be down more often than not. Also the game needs a lot of resources. Pay attention to the Recommended specification. There is an offline mode to the game but there is not much to do. The manufacturer's website has a forum with more information on the current state of things.

Summary: Server Outages, Zero Tutorial - Do NOT Buy This Game
Review: I could describe how disappointed and frustrated I am with thisgame, but I don't have to - just go to ... ... and read about it yourself. In the days since its release nobody can log in, their servers are perpetually down, and the "manual" is simply a text file. Did I forget to mention the mandatory 67.3 MEGABYTE patch you are forced to download the first time you connect?

I think it's incredible that the publisher has not issued a recall on this game. I've seen some bad products in my time, but WWII Online reaches a new low in entertainment software.

Summary: It's early but it's not looking good.
Review: For fans of fps's, I definitely recommend waiting. Trust me.

1. The game WAY exceeded the sales the production company thought. This means you must download a 65mb + file from online to update it. So if you use a 56k modem, hopefully you know someone with DSL and a burner. 2. It is not your standard fps. The gameplay is more like Everquest than quake or HL. 3. It costs $10 a month to play. The first month is free. This I actually think is a good thing. It will at the very least weed out the idiots who ruin online gaming by being idiots. 4. The registration serve went down because of the overload and an "incompatibility" issue. 5. The game server is down and at the present moment (6/8/01 5:35pm EST)the most people that have played so far is 600. Again, the servers had an "incompatibility" issue.

So wait till they fix all the bugs. Wait wait wait. Be patient. I am as excited to play a working title as much as you, and I already own it.

Summary: Don't be discouraged by the reports from the front!
Review: Many are screaming about the foul-ups at Cornered Rat Software. The first 3 days have been met with hardware failures, allowing only 500 online at a time. I personally have only been able to access only the offline version, but let me tell you this: This is the ugliest, dirties, buggiest hunk of code that you will EVER LOVE. I heard that from one of the boys who actually got in, and believe me, it will rock.

The world is immersible, and it will be awesome. Have faith! It will overcome the early problems and soon take its place as one of the most revolutionary games in the history of gaming.

Summary: rough launch for a great game
Review: This game is fantastic in its scope and design but is having what is possibly the most troubled launch of all time. Wait a month after its realease to buy it, but definitely get it. A must for any WW2 fan, strategy fan, first person shooter fan, sim fan, or MMOG fan. Think that just about covers everybody.

Summary: Troubled
Review: I also haven't played the game. I was able to cancel my order in time. According to the website, the launch has been extremely troubled. A 70mb patch is required to play, you have to download it from the site. The servers have been down most of the time. It should be a great game, when they work out the problems-maybe in a few days/weeks/months. Until then, it seems to be unplayable....

Summary: Patience is necessary for 1st month.
Review: This game is going to be the best massively multiplayer game out there, but if you buy this game please realize that it might take a few weeks to get it up and running on your system. Do not expect this to be like your normal shoebox game that you can stick in your computer and play as it will take some time before the developers can tweak everything to perfection. Expect the servers to be down/full. Expect the offline play not to work. Expect the websites to be down. Buy at least 256MB of RAM & have 32MB vid card. If you can be patient and work with the support team, then buy the game now: you may luck out and it might work for you. If not, wait a month and buy it in July when everything should be working correctly. But realize that eventually, everything will get fixed and be up and running and you will be there at the begining of this wonderful wonderful game.

Summary: Are we being [taken advantage of]?
Review: This game promises to be one of the most interesting releases this year, but is it living up to this promise? The game retails for around..comparable to other games in the online market (in fact better than some), but to play you need to spend an extra.. The WW2 on-line site clams that the cheapest price for an on-line game.. Any Diablo2 fans will know that there are free games out there. Paying for online games is a matter of preference. If the game is worth it, it is worth paying the monthly subscription. This game does look worth the fee.

Many of us have been eagerly waiting for the release date so that we can get on line and play. Here are some features of the game I dislike. Our dependance on the web server, and my two biggest disappointments.

Firstly we need to log on and register..to play.I have found (and many of my contacts have agreed) that [the] siteis unstable. When I can connect (once every five tries) I can't log in or register. In fact I've only been able to connect to the secure registration and login site once. I have had no response from the trouble shooting staff.

Secondly the war has not started. Despite the software being availablle, the server for the theatre of war will not start fighting until July.

These problems can be rectified, and I look forward to actually being able to play the game.

Summary: Worst launch ever?
Review: Massively multiplayer online games have had their fair share of problems. Ultima Online and EverQuest had lots of lagging issues, but at least *the game* still worked. Apparently, StrategyFirst didn't consider this when they released WWII Online.

I have a PIII 450 with 128 megs of RAM. It just barely exceeds the minimum requirements, but, according to StrategyFirst, the game *should* work. Unfortunately, it doesn't. When I'm not being booted out to the Windows desktop, I'm trying to figure out how to get the game to load. It doesn't look like this is restricted to low-end computers, either. I've seen a PIII 700mhz computer with 386 megs of RAM do the exact same thing.

WWII Online COULD have been one of the best massively multiplayer online games released in years. In my opinion, it turned out to be the worst. I give the developers 1 star for effort.
