Rating: Summary: It could be the best ever but........ Review: Once you actually get this game to load, and wait again for it to load some more and load yet another time, you will find this game EXTREMELY buggy and laggy. I have played other on-line games and this is the worst yet. Load times are just ridiculous. Not mention how often you will loose the connection and have to LOAD it all over again! This has real potential but they need to take lessons from DFLW,Everquest and etc, once all the bugs are gone and keys are more configurable (this games Hates Feedback)this could be the best online game ever.
Rating: Summary: INCREDIBLY ADDICTING IF YOU CAN GET IT TO WORK RIGHT Review: I have a piece of crap HP Athlon machine (Don't ever buy HP products) with only 128 MB RAM and 8MB Video RAM with AT&T@HOME cable modem service. I have had frame rates range from 0-40 fps (40 when I'm alone). Based on the reviews from other players with superior hardware, it seems that boosting RAM and having more powerful video card has marginal impact on the overall performance. I seem to be getting similar performance with incredibly inferior hardware. It has to be a combination of network problems and code optimization.I have not had problems with connecting to the server like most other people have experienced. The game has been incredibly addicting when things are going smoothly. The world is vast and it feels like real combat instead of some hyper-active shooter like Quake III. One of my biggest gripe was that they did not have all of the features that were advertised. Not all of the weapons were modeled (no MG, no grenades, no bombers. My other gripe is that the frame rate would drop at the most crucial time. I'm sneaking up on a tank ready to kill it with a flank shot and my computer would grind to a halt and ten seconds later I'm dead because during that ten seconds, my opponent had time to react and shoot me into pieces. It really angers me to know that I made careful preparations ambush my opponent and I get killed because the software isn't optimized and yes, the load times are incredibly long. At its current state, the publishers cannot expect to charge a monthly rate. Not until all advertised features have been added and the code has been optimized will I pay a monthly fee.
Rating: Summary: Bloody aweful !! Review: I WISH I read these reviews before purchase. I just wasted my money on this trash. Loaded it went on line, had to upgrade playgate, then upgrade software engine 70MB. Thats ok I got DSL however when installing upgrade it gets a decompression failure. My computer is TOP of the line fully loaded. There is not reason for this. This software is UNFINISHED. Save your money. Buy Combat Mission, which is excellent.
Rating: Summary: A True Disappointment Review: I, like many others, waited a very long time for this game, and the resultant product released a few weeks ago is horrendous. The game released is not even close to an actual final product. During the first week most people could not play, and even now, three weeks after its release, many people still cannot get on to play, and for those who can, experiencing a Crash To Desktop is not uncommon. Most features listed on the box are not included with the game (in fact, what they have done is considered false advertising, and the company can be held legally responsible - but who in their right mind is going to sue for a ($) game when you can just return it to the store). There is no naval aspect to the game. There is no ranking system to this game. The 3D sounds are horrible. The persistent world that can accommodate 70k+ people will never happen (they have already admitted to this publicly). Realistically, the game is nothing but a shell - extreme early stages of development. There are too many obvious bugs in this game, such as tanks that float high in the air, vehicle models that flash white which allows the enemy to be easily made out in the distance or at night, sloppy controls, exploits, etc. Because of all the bugs, this product can only be viewed as a beta, and if that. Immediately after you buy this game you will have to install a ~70MB patch, then an assortment of other patches. What a hassle! And now that the company is busy fixing all these beta bugs, cheaters have already begun their work, with invisibility cheats and speed hacks. Even with all of the above, however, the game is fun at times, and it does have major potential to be big down the road if this company can ever get their act together. But I am not rating this game on its potential or what it might be years down the road after hundreds of necessary patches, I am rating this game in its current state - an atrocity.
Rating: Summary: You'll need the patience of a saint to play this game! Review: Although this game seems quite promising, it is just a mess of bugs, frustrating load-times, and huge patches. First off, the graphics are quite mediocre. The building walls are paper thin and there is really nothing to the buildings other than four walls. The characters are blocky and all of the action looks quite silly most of the time. Hopefully, you enjoy long load times. Waiting for the game to boot up and let you into the server literally takes 2-5 minutes. Even the offline mode takes a good 2-5 minutes to load. And this is with a system that surpasses the recommended system configurations (I am running a P3-800mhz, 256MB SDRAM, 32MB Video, 40xCD-ROM, and Cable Modem). Also, the game says it only requires a 56k modem to play, but even with a cable modem I experience terrible lag in big battles. Also, you'll hate your 56k connection when it comes to downloading patches (last patch I downloaded was about 70 MB!). The gameplay itself isn't too much fun either. It is pointless to try and go foot-soldier seeing as how EVERYBODY uses tanks! Trying to be infantry will get you either run over or killed in one good tank blast. Since you're able to just select what to use in battle, is it any wonder that this game has become a war of tanks? In the whole time I've played I only come across infantry when it's the person's very first time playing. After that they quickly learn to just use the tanks. Knowing who to kill will be frustrating as well. Everyone's name in the game is blue, and although you cannot damage an ally, you will spend a considerable amount of time shooting at the wrong targets. All in all, the game is terrible. Fighting the battles is aggrevating, but not as aggrevating as finding a battle to fight (there are no NPCs, so you have to find other players to fight). On many servers you'll notice the Allies are quite outnumbered by the Axis. Every battle I have played has been won by the Germans. The game is just chaos, no structure, no commanding officers (unless doing missions, and not really even then). It's basically jump-in, shoot, die, jump back in, shoot some more, die again. There's no real goal or purpose. No medals to be awarded and no real benefits to acheiving a high rank.
Rating: Summary: Great game, evolving, but what online game isnt????? Review: This game looks like it will be the game to beat in the online game battlefield. Sure, it has its problems, but what online game didnt' start out. How dim witted and forgetful some people are that are quick to belittle this game. Everquest started out very buggy when it was released, but is now the top rated online game. I predict that WWII online will do that and more. The developers have many more features left that are not yet implimented, but will be someday in the near future. Absolutely a blast to play, a must buy, but would suggest waiting a month or so for the bugs to be squashed and features to be implimented, if you have a short attention span.
Rating: Summary: great game, if you can play it Review: Now don't get me wrong, this game has its flaws. It takes a long time to load, and has its bugs. However, if you want to do a bit of polishing, and have huge amounts of processing power and something above 56k, this game works out fine. But if you're willing, you can find a gem as big as a basketball under all the rubble. WIth 56k, I found it greatly troublesome that i had to download a 70 mb patch. I also found it troublesome that without the patch my gun would not function. However, after downloading the patch, i started to play this game for hours on end. It's simply addictive. However, i always keep a book next to the computer so that during the long loading times (I have a pentium 4, 1.5 gz) I have something to do. But the game is simply addictive, assuming it loads, or you have the connection to play it.
Rating: Summary: Listen To Someone who knows what they're talking about Review: First off most of these people havent played the game, dont own it, or are just whining cause they cant get in the game. Now with the launch of the game they did have a rough start. But what about UO (Ultima Online) that had a crappy start and look at the game now. Come on a 70MB file isnt that big, get a program like Go!Zilla or Get Right, and you dont thave to do it all at once. Now to the good stuff, i've been playing this game since day 1. The first couple days were harsh and now alot of the bugs are worked out and the game does play a hell of alot better. Weather ur driving a tank, flying a plane or just shooting at trees, this game rules. One of the coolest things about the game is the ability to have multi crewed vehicles; lets take a tank for instance, one guy in the turret, the tank commander, driver, and co-diver, it gets awesome. the stuka dive bomber even has a tail gunner position, how cool is that. Those of you getting bad frame rates; tweak ur machine! I'm on an Intel Celeron 500, 192 MB's RAM, and ive got all the way up to 51 fps, when not in a major conflict i get and average of 27 fps and in a big fight i get about 15 fps.... Notice to All "If you have patience buy this game, new patches are being release about once a week, and each one makes the game run better and better". And for those of you who dont have any patience, go back to CS. cause in the coming months CS will become obsolete (with this game out, TF2, Unreal Warefare, and Medal of honor coming out) and CS has become just rehashed over and over. This game does kick assand will only get better.
Rating: Summary: WWII: Online Rivals Daikatana for Worst Game Ever. Review: A great deal of hype surrounding this game prior to its release and there was good reason for it too. The premise of the game sounds very exciting when you hear it: You play either a French, British, or German soldier during the Blitzkreig time of World War II (Battle of France). You can fly a plane, drive a tank (or transport jeep), or stand on the frontlines as an infantryman. In addition to all this, the game is played online with over a thousand different players. Sure sounds like great fun once you hear it, doesn't it? However, when you play a game, the premise makes up only 5% of the final verdict while the other 95% is execution. THIS is where the game fails... First may I bring up the game's startling specifications for playing. This includes, in addition to a myriad of other startling requirements, 128 MB of RAM. Even in today's standards that is pretty high. Even with the high requirements, the game takes nearly five minutes to load the main menu (astronomically high in today's world) and it takes a total of twenty minutes to actually get INTO the game. Second off is the graphics. This game looks like it tripped in the mud on its way home from school. The graphics are horrible. One could compare them to a game from 1996 and the 1996 game WOULD win in the graphics department. While it could be argued that the lack of good looks stops the game from slowing up, this is horrible and Ultima Online runs faster with better looks (honest to god). Sound in the game is decent as it fails to wow me but doesn't anger me. Not much can be said about it. Finally, the coup d'etat - gameplay. Playing the game is much akin to having a small child use your groin as a punching bag. Using a tank is WAY too complicated and difficult and flying a plane is, for me, nearly impossible. When you play an infantryman it only takes one shot to kill you. Considering the massive size of the game world (the ONE good thing about WWII - Online), many have traveled for an hour and a half in complete boredom and then got shot and died in five seconds. Considering the fact that when you die you must leave the game and then come back in, this may turn into a fifteen minute ordeal just to go back and play again. It is very easy to defend the game and say that it is being realistic, but "realism" in the game is much more like chinese water torture. In short, WWII is one of the worst games I have ever played (and I have played well over 1,000 games) and rivals even the atrocity that is John Romero's Daikatana. If you happen to pass by someone in a store who is looking at the box, save them [the money] and tell them of the horror that is WWII. Should you be one of the sad victims who actually owns the game (such as myself), then may God have mercy on your pitiful soul.
Rating: Summary: Not even close to commercial quality Review: You've read it before, so this is probably not going to come as a big surprise, but this product is not finished, and guess who's the beta tester? Beta testing is fun you say? Yeah as long as you don't have to pay for the "privilege". Pros: Potential to be a good virtual battlefield simulation in the distant future. If you're one of the people who have rated this game 5 stars ask yourself if you would still feel that way assuming it would always perform this way. You are reviewing a product AS SOLD, not based on what some random company tells you it might be some day. Cons: 1) Apparently coded in Visual Basic by a team of rank amateurs. 2) Load times on the fastest systems are atrocious (5-10 minutes). I can only imagine some poor ... running a system meeting the minimum requirements even attempting it. 3) RAM requirements. Despite what the box says, NOBODY has enough RAM to keep this from thrashing. I have 512MB and it's not even close to what it's spooling. 4) Even if you have a 10K RPM raid system, the thrashing will bring your system to its knees. 5) Frame rates are TOTALLY unacceptable ALL of the time. Even if you crank the detail down to minimum on your shiny new GeForce 3, you can expect extremely poor performance compared to engines doing 3 times the work and handling MUCH larger textures, multiple light sources, and shaders. They suggest turning off mip mapping to solve the problem? 6)Servers are slow, unstable and overcrowded, even with the current "interim" separation into different shards. 7) Dumps are frequent and ALWAYS at the wrong time (assuming you can get in in the first place). 8) Code is not only poorly designed, but totally unstable. CTDs are common and fatal excpetions aren't an exception. Conclusion: This product is WAY not finished. You have been sold a product purporting to be something it is not with no guarantee it will ever be satisfactory. At the very least there is no way the current codebase will ever be viable. Without a complete re-write of the engine by a professional programmer, you're hosed. There's not going to be any miracle "patch" for this disaster. Making it right will take months, and that's only if they decide to start over from scratch. You have been warned.
