Summary: A great SIMULATION... a fair game.
Review: First things first. This game is not for the casual gamer, or the fellow who thinks his computer should work like his television or console. You need a fairly beefy machine to play this, and an understanding of how that machine works.

It isn't a "twitch" game like BF1942 or DOD. You can spend a lot of time NOT fighting, not even seeing enemy. It has a fairly steep learning curve. You won't have any fun flying or driving anything without the proper equipment to do so, i.e. a good quality joystick. I see a lot of people who purchased this game thinking it was something it isn't, a FPS with WWII weapons. These people go away unhappy.

What it IS, is the worlds first persistent virtual battlefield, utilizing accurately modeled WWII equpiment, on an accurately scaled map of central Europe. There are no hit points, health packs, or super weapons. This game is based on physics, not how fast you can hit your mouse button. You can shoot that French Char B1B tank all day long with your 20mm gun, if you're shooting at armor a real 20mm would not penetrate, you won't do anything either, except irritate the crew.

It is hands down, the most realistic online tank sim ever made. It is one of the best tank sims ever made, period. To me, this is it's strong point. To those poor deluded souls who play infantry, this is it's weak point. The infantry game still needs work. They are important to the game as the only means of capturing and advancing territory, but not a whole lot to do with them. I don't see any fun in it at all myself, but there are those that do. I prefer tank VS tank fights, which the game does a fantastic job with.

Bottom line is this - if you're looking for a realistic, accurately modeled SIMULATION this game is for you. If you're looking for a FPS GAME.. it probably isn't your cup of tea.

Summary: WWIIONLINE, the best choice in a multi player online game
Review: I'll start off with the cold hard truth. WWIIONLINE suffers from the following problems. 1. Less than Stellar Graphics 2. High System Requirements 3. Minor glitches (continually being fixed)

In spite of that fact, I still give WWIIONLINE 5 stars for several reasons... Nothing replaces the feel of riding on one of several trucks full of infantry to assualt a town as allied tanks launch an assualt, and allied planes fly overhead enroute to drop bombs. Now I'm not talking about just a few people at once, I'm talking 100 people just on the attacking side, not to mention the defenders.

WWIIONLINE gives players an expierance unlike any other, players can choose to play as english german or french. Fight in the air, drive on the ground, Man anti tank and anti aircraft guns, drive pt boats (more naval units comming), or just run around on the ground as infantry. On top of that players can join up with either the Allied or German High commands and go into battel organized with squads etc.

If you prove yourself in battle, you can be asked to step up and take command yourself of armies on the field. Sounds like a far fetched gimic right? Well I bought the game back in June, and now I have a Brigade under me as well as my own squad. Total of about 100+ people under my command.

If you are tired of the classic, shootout until there is one man standing and then do it again, and are looking for something more. Give WWIIONLINE A TRY!!!

Review: This online game is awesome. I have been playing since it came out. It was buggy on release to the point it lost many subscribers. Be assured it has changed. In my opinion, playing against thousands of other humans, which is never boring, makes this the best game ever. One must have at least a p4 2.5 gig computer. Vido card 128mgs but get 228. Patches are still coming and will be indefinately. Game keeps changing for the better. Please anyone who left this game come back.

Summary: Best game ever designed, and it keeps getting better!
Review: I've been playing WWIIOL pre-day 1 release (Over 2 years), and I've pretty much played every game out there so this review comes from an experienced gamer.
WWIIOL is a realistic, historically accurate game portraying World War II in a massive seamless arena (exponentially larger than SWG). The viewing distance is the largest ever conceived in a game (GO HERE to see size comparison to other MMOGs: http://www.freewebs.com/nrakjar/maps.html). Everything in-game is modeled to be historically accurate - Flight Models (planes), Damage Models (Not hit point based but based upon the accurate ballistics used on what type of armor, etc), weapons, ballistics, etc.

The best feature of the game is it's always under continuous development with each massive patch - No other game has changed as much as wwiiol in such a little time. New systems such as ordnance server, new weapons, vehicles, improvements on gameplay, Better graphics / sounds, UI, etc, etc. Plus it's all for FREE, no expansion packs like Planetside (been out less than a year and they have minor upgrade to game and they want you to pay for it!).

Summary: Great Sim, Broken Gameplay
Review: I've been playing this one since Oct 2001. So that's around $375 I've pumped into this game. It's got a lot of good things going for it. As other have pointed out.

But what hasn't been discussed is what is most wrong with the game, it's the gampeplay mechanics that are wrong.

First off, fixed point spawns. Everybody knows where they are and what to do, CAMP THEM !. The only realy way to reduce a defenders ability to resist and conquer territory is by spawn camping. The entire game revolves around organizing spawn capms as quickly as possible. Which leaves no room for any sort of true strategic planning.

Second. Too many vehicles, especially tanks and AC's. Tanks and planes rampage and infantry have little to do except be targets and "hump a table", (the game equivalent of CTF). There is no true global attition and vehicles consumed are replenished on a timer. Players hoard vehicles and the map truly swarms with them. Don't expect to play a realistic simulated infantry battles.

Third. Terrrain means nothing, true commanders would use terrain and choke points to concentrate defense and attacks. Not so in WWIIOL, just hop in a tank and camp a spawn until it becomes attrited, break out your single trooper to hump a table and BAM you own the place.

Fourth, (and last). No strat that links vehicle or base supply with with any sort of national output. Thus each campaign, 10 or 50 times the actual number produced of any particular vehicle is consumed. More vehicles are consumed in a few days than were produced in the entire war.

So there it is, play it for what you want but don't expect too much.

Summary: Rough Start, but now for me it's Simply Addictive!!
Review: I just love this game! Sure, there are many things about it that could be improved, but there is nothing like it out there otherwise, and the realism alone makes it worthwhile. WWIIOnline came out last June with a very rocky start, but over the past 7 months has improved dramatically. Cornered Rat Software is a small company that listens to its subscribers, and if you purchase this game (and pay its monthly subscription fee) you're really joining them as a 'beta tester' as the world they have created grows and changes. Right now the war is limited to northeast France and the Benelux, but over time, it will expand to include the entire globe.

If you get this one, pay VERY close attention to the required specifications. You WILL need at least 384 Mb of RAM, and 512 Mb would be even better. You MUST have a good video card, and a joystick to play all aspects of the game (tanks and aircraft), despite it not being mentioned in the list of specs.

This game will appeal to the older gamer who is interested in military history, combat flight sims, and military hardware. Don't get this one if you're a Quake fan, as the play is more cerebral and takes more patience than quick reflexes to succeed.

Finally, if you get this one, make sure to check out the related forums sponsored by Playnet. Many of the questions you have related to installation and start-up can be answered by the knowledgable player base, who are ready and willing to help you out.

One final item worth mentioning: there will be a VERY large (@ 100 Mb) initial download for you once you have stated the install. If you have a 56K dial-up like me, give it an overnight to complete, and dream of WWII while you sleep!

Good Luck!

Summary: It's not a game, it's as close to a simulation as can be had
Review: When WWIIOL was first launched, it was in horrible condition. Ok, that was 2 1/2 years ago. It wouldn't be around now and have the hardcore following that it does if it were still in bad condition.

The game offers things you just can't find anyplace else.

Things like a map that is Europe half scale, Air, Sea and Land forces all fighting for a common cause on a grand scale, etc. It even has actual strategic bombing. You can fly a round trip flight in bombers that lasts 1 1/2 hours and you are nervous the whole time because you know the enemy has fighters looking for you. Sometimes they find you, sometimes they don't till it's too late and you are rewarded with the sight of their factories in your bomb-sight.

There is nothing like rolling up to an enemy town in an armored column of 20, 30, 40, 50+ tanks and forming a line formation as you approach. You are nervous because you know the enemy is laying traps for you, like Sappers hiding in bushes, Anti-Tank guns, and Tanks, all waiting for you to make a mistake. If you do, it's lights out.

Ever wanted to come to the grunts rescue in your Spitfire? Well here it is possible and the guys on the ground are all smiles when they see the enemies Stukas going down in flames. Now they can get their armored column on the move again.

In short, WWIIOL can be summed up in a word.........Addiction.

Summary: Wow this game is amazing!!
Review: Do not be fooled by the graphics when you first log in.
This game has depth.

Just be warned: it has a very very very steep learning curve. Simply because it is realistic, if you dont know where to hit a specific enemy tank, at what distance, which angle and which ammo to use, you probably wont kill it. To learn to play this game is to learn about real WWII warfare - in detail.

This game is of type: MMOSG - Massive Multi User Simulation Game

Summary: Let the fight begin...
Review: Sitting on my Opel, smoking the last cigaret while looking anxiously for enemy air-crafts in the sky. The guy next to me - I think his name is Hans or Kurt - arrived to our Division only this morning. Man, I hate the thought about losing all these new guys to the enemy. I only hope, that they will last a couple of days, giving them the stamina and swift skills needed for survival in the field. All the sudden the sturdy sound from the Opel's engine, is becoming vaque, as another sound takes over. "SPIT INCOMING 11 O'CLOCK". The Opel driver makes a harsh turn and are aiming for the near treeline in the faint hope of avoiding the 'eye in the sky'. While we count the seconds, the Opel is getting nearer safe ground, and we get ready to exit the vehicle. Just a few more yards, then we'll be safe... The Spitfire enters a steap dive, and starts spraying his rain of lead. "Phew, missed me..." I think... Then I take a look to see if my buddies are hurt - They all seems pretty okay, except for one: The new guy... He is lying very dead on the ground, and I hate myself for thinking "Oh no, not another letter to a grieving family - I only wish, I had taken the time to learn his name...".

Oh well, he can always re-spawn at the Forward Base - But it was a shame, his first run should end like this. Better take care of him on the next run...

Sounds thrilling? Then get your butt into the game, soldier - You comrads in arms are waiting for you!
