Summary: A Successor to Unreal Tournament, But a Worthy One?
Review: When I purchased a computer system in November 2000 to upgrade my aging PC, a game title I had in mind was Unreal Tournament (UT). After spending just a short while with UT, I realized it was a winner. This game defined the cliché "thrill of victory and agony of defeat." I was almost afraid to play it because I hated to lose, but was it great to win! Playing Unreal Tournament set the stage for Unreal Tournament 2003 (UT2003), but progress does not always fulfill one's hopes.

UT2003 is a good shooter. It is a very good looking game with realistic effects like fire, swirling clouds, and rounded surfaces. It's rendering of shiny metal objects is perhaps the best I've seen in any game. The bots work well in single player, and the AI has been improved so much over UT that it's almost impossible to beat the bots in the tougher difficulty settings (at least I couldn't). The sound and music are good too.

The drawbacks of UT2003 include fairly high system requirements. I could run it on my Pentium III system, but the frame rates noticeably dropped when a lot of bots were on screen. Even on my 3 GHz Pentium IV system the game will sometimes slow down noticeably. Also, I thought that the weapons weren't as good as in UT. The sniper rifle, one of the best weapons I've seen in any game, was replaced by a "lightning gun." I hate this weapon! You've got to wait several seconds for it to recharge, and we all know what waiting results in when we are being attacked by bots or players intent on killing us.

UT2003 and Unreal II, just aren't what they could be, and they are a step down from their predecessors. I would love to see the developers of these Unreal games return to their roots. Give us the original greats like Unreal and Unreal Tournament with updated sound and graphics, and you'll have a lot of happy players. Epic Megagames, do you hear me?

Summary: Good play but certain not Unreal play.
Review: Unreal 2003 kicks butt. It's fun and looks fabulous and the online play is superb, however because of the framerate issue(s) I've got to knock this one back one star. If the video on this game was as solid like the classic game or like Quake III I'd have to give this one a five star rating.

Summary: A fun FPS? You bet!
Review: Let me say that I did not play the original Unreal Tournament.
Nor did I play Halo, Half-Life, Doom 2, Serious Sam, Medal of Honor, Castle Wolfenstein 3D, etc. etc.

Why?

I hate First Person Shooters and always did.

Then one day I was over at my cousin's house and he showed me Unreal Tournament 2003. I was hooked and bought my own copy the next day. I've played it quite a bit, especially since it's possible to play a match in 5-10 minutes as opposed to the multi-day to month-long commitment needed to play Galactic Civilizations, Civ 3 or Morrowind.

I like that it has a good following on the internet, and that two free expansion packs have been released by the developers. I also heard that the developer is giving a $10 discount to owners of 2003 who purchase 2004.

Summary: Unreal Tournament 2003
Review: Unreal Tournament 2003 is not as good as the orginal UT. But it is a great game with Excellent level design, graphics, weapon balance, gameplay modes, bot AI and mutliplayer modes with great physics. Just like the first game UT2003 is one of those games that really make the wasted hours, the lost sleep and the money spent upgrading hardware. In the single player game, you can play in Tournament mode. This is a perfect introduction if you're a new player, and if you are an experienced gamer, this mode is useful as a quick tour of the game's maps. Not many changes and needs a powerhouse system but if you are a fan of Quake3 or the orginal Unreal Tournament then Unreal Tournament 2003 is definitely for you.

Summary: The PIMP game is back for another deathmatch
Review: The first one rocked, and guess what! THIS ONE ROCKS EVEN MORE! improved graphics, tons of new levels, more mutators, more characters=tons of great action! even the demo is the shizznat! Now u 56k'ers out there, u can even play this one online! the improved online engine has some way of predicting players moves, so even with a high ping, you can still play! When you run out of maps if u happen to beat the game, go to google and search for more maps, and play more! Better yet, have ur friends buy the game also and have a LAN party! NOW THAT WOULD BE GREAT! Peace out, buy this game now!

Summary: YOURE KIDDING
Review: Please, anyone who played the original Unreal will know that they took away all the cool stuff and emphasized the crap !

Gone is the wonderful sniper rifle.
Gone is the balance between all weapons (now 2 weapons are superpowerful)
Gone is the stearable Redeemer (the new one steers like a bus)
Gone is realistic movements (one second hes there, next hes not)
Gone is any skill

This game sucks, online and off. Only the bombing run (online) is slightly fun, but is always screwed by guys who make the teams unbalanced.

Summary: Ok, I guess
Review: Whatever, its not great. It is not realistic at all, nor does it try to be. You run at incredibal speeds, take punishment that seems more sutable for a tank, and there are all sorts of powerups around the ring. But it does offer a relief from games like Counter-Strike. Its always fun playing futuristic FPS's, where you wield massive guns, and wear giant power suits, but it gets old fast. Also, because its entirely tournament based, your introduced to all the weapons the first time you play, so once youve seen them all, its sort of like, "Oh... thats it?" but whatever. Since its only $20, I would say buy it, but if it were any more expensive, it wouldnt be worth it.

Summary: Unreal 2k3's not the best, but it's NOT HORRIBLE!
Review: Ok, so I can understand most people's complaints about all those features being taken off the game. And I'll admit I was a bit dissapointed too. But in no way is this game horrible! Yes it's got great graphics, and as much as I know graphics don't make a game, it sure helps alot! And the lighting effects? Amazing. I haven't seen a single lighting glitch in the game..so i'm geussing the people with lighting glitch complaints have computers that may be a little bit off.. The guns in this are fairly good, and the concept of just running around and shooting people got a little old, but I enjoyed the different modes...and in no way were the physics horrible! The physics in this game are amazing! All of the in-game characters and bots, have very realistic movements when jumping, sidestepping shooting, falling down a big hole full of horizontal steel bars, ect.
So it's not the greatest game out there, and probably worth waiting for Unreal 2k4, but it's definatly worth a look.

Summary: how can people dislike this game
Review: I don't understand the complaints. Yeah Quake 3 arena was good but the original Unreal Tournament brought online FPS to the masses (including me) something Quake never did. This is essentially an update to the original game and luckily still has all the original qualities that the original game had. With the bonus packs there are some great new game types too, like Bombing Run and Invasion. I have even played some versions where you can allocate earned skill points to improve your player..which gives the feel of an FPS crossed with an RPG. All in all its definitely a jump forward although it could be a leap if more of the additions mentioned are supplied with the game. Lets see what Atari come up with for UT 2004

Summary: Definately a good one - but no one's perfect !
Review: Being a FPS fan, I've played many games of the kind.. Doom 1&2, Quake 1&2, UT, Wolfenstein, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem, and so on. But UT2k3 is definately something new !!

To start, this is a hard game for beginners. What I dislike the most in that game is how good is the AI. If you want to play that game in Single Player Mode, you may have a hard time and get bored easily. You certainly want to have a good Internet connection to play that game in Multiplayer Mode over the many available servers. If you're not an adept of gaming and are only planning to play the game once in a while, then you may have to think again.

Unreal Tournament 2k3 is a great game for whom intends to play this game more than once a week. It's very addictive from the beginning, and it will need a lot of practice to get used to all the special moves (dodges, wall jumps, boost jumps, etc). In addition to the unbeliveable graphics and physics, the objects have been arranged in order to make special hides that can't be reached by everyone. I could practice tricks and try finding hides for whole days. You can't masterize the game within months. It takes a lot more time to learn all the moves and mix all your dexterity into one deadly weapon.

Personally, what makes the game very interesting is it's MOD InstaGib. It's a One Shot Kill gamemode that demands a lot of aiming precision, dexterity, etc. Imagine playing a Capture the Flag map, you have to reach the enemy base alive, take the flag and reach back your own base alive while everyone is doing is best to stop you - remember, one shot is enough to be stopped. There comes the benefit of good teamplay, strategy, dexterity. You can't go straight line, you have to be creative :)

As for the other gamemodes, I'm not used to them, but I can tell you can't masterize all the mods, you have to find what fits you the most and practice it until you become the best !

Definately addictive !

Teh GAME to buy !
