Summary: Dont listen to jcb56678 is a Quake II & III Dumb A-S-S!
Review: Don't listen to jcb56678 it is ovious that he is a Quaker... that game is so boring it can't be described in Words! UT was the best multi-player internet game,,, and 2003 just raised it up two more levels. Graphics are a 10, sound 10, gameplay is 10 evrything is improved. Also the people that dont like the weapons now are because they have no skill. You use to get away with some wreckless wild shooting because the blast radius is so big... now they are smaller but the weapons are even more powerfull.. you have to hit what your are aiming at,, no more luck.... oh well no wonder jcb56678 doesn't like this game and has NO SKILL<> COME GET SOME! SEE you in a sever if you have any guts!... what didnt think so

Summary: Pretty Graphics, Poor Gameplay, and Unoriginal
Review: I was never a big Unreal Tournament player before, and this game isn't going to make me one. It shouldn't even be considered a new game, but rather a map pack and graphics update.

The weapons are more or less the same as in the first Unreal Tournament. Most have gotten makeovers, and a few seem to have been weakened. The sniper rifle has been turned into the lighting gun, which means that it is basically like the laser rifle in Tribes 2 (i.e. it fires a beam that gives away the sniper's position) Most of the maps fall into the category of corridors-with-weapons-scattered-randomly-about, which is good if you like that kind of thing, but bad if you want some verity.

The teamplay options in this game are very poor. The capture the flag game type is basically a deathmatch + flags, in that there is no teamwork to speak of. You find a weapon, you charge the enemy side of the map, and rarely end up seeing the flag because the enemy is doing the exact same thing, and you just play a deathmatch in the middle of the level. Pointless. Epic could have at least incorporated some Team Fortress concepts into the capture the flag game to make it more interesting. Team games in UT2K3 don't hold a candle to Tribes 2.

This game would make a good mod platform. For instance, the game engine has support for vehicles, but they are not incorporated into the game (a demo can be accessed by typing "map vehicledemo" into the console). ...

All and all, this game is good if you like mindless, repetitive deathmatches (which does not describe me). It isn't much of an improvement on the original Unreal Tournament. The gameplay is nearly identical, the maps aren't that much to talk about, and the team play options are unoriginal. The only real hope for this game is a new and original mod, because it seems Epic checked originality at the door when they made this game.

Summary: One Of The More P.O.ing Games Of This Year
Review: I read about Unreal Tournament 2003 in p.c. gamer, and i remember promises of 'huge destructible enviroments' and 'a two person skiff'. So far, after purchasing it for 50 bucks, i have seen no signs of either the skiff or the 'huge enviroment.' I'm not p.o.ed about the skiff, but come on, skiffing is my life, if they take away the skiff... what next, THE GUNS. I mean the graphics are great and the gameplay, realistic, but THERES NO SKIFFING. I HAVE BASED MY LIFE AND MY RELIGION AROUND THAT GAME REVIEW, waiting for the game to come out-with a skiff-but alas, no skiff. Where has the world gone when you can promise-but not deliver-the skiff. IS THERE NO END TO THE TORTURE.

Summary: An Unreal game!
Review: I never played UT, so this is very new to me, but this game is a blast. I keep hearing how awesome the graphics were, and though they are very good, I think Wolfenstein & MOHAA are better. What seperates this game from them is the fast paced action. And I do mean fast. This may be the fastest paced game I have ever played. There are several cool maps, unique weapons, and tons of action. The single player mission isn't very hard. It seems to me that this was made just to teach how to play, but it was still very fun. The last match is incredibly tough. You also have instant action which places you on one of the maps against 4 or 5 computer players. It is fun, but not very hard. The hardest thing for me is figuring out the secret moves you can do after you have collected some adrenalin. I'm still having trouble with that. The multiplay is really good. I was surprised how little lag there has been. I have not had trouble getting into a game yet and it hasn't gotten so laggy that I had to find another game. There's alot of gore & bad language and the music and sound effects are very solid. You can play deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and bombing run (I don't understand that name since you are trying push some kind of ball through a portal of some sort. Kind of lame if you ask me) so there are plenty of playing options and there are already new maps coming out. If you want plenty of action to get your adrenalin pumping, this is your game.

Summary: Infogrames should have learned from UT mods
Review: Unreal Tournament (the original) has proven to be a classic, with die-hard fans that have built apon it and made it better. Infogrames should have learned from these modders who have volunteered their time to improve upon the original, and not tried to re-invent the wheel. Mods like (most especially) the Zark rifle (which makes the sniper rifle fully automatic) and large custom sniper maps have greatly improved the original and made it into something way more intense and fun. ... My alias is |ZM|Meditation.

I have only played the demo, but in my opinion, the maps are too small and cater to the run and gun style of gameplay, and not sniper play. The major sin of UT 2003 is replacing the classic sniper rifle with the lightning gun. The lightning gun [disappointed me] because it makes it impossible to be a true sniper, as it gives away your location every time you fire it. Thus, it's impossible to be stealthy.

There is nothing like the satisfaction of the original UT, when you can be at a hidden vantage point and pick off your targets one by one, without giving away your location. UT2003 ruins that. All I can say, is that I hope there is a Zark rifle mod that brings back the fully automatic sniper rifle.

So in conclusion, if you like running around and killing people in close combat, this game is for you. But if you are a sniper, stick with UT until some mod brings back the sniper rifle.

UT2003 is more like Quake III then it is like Unreal Tournament. It has a better graphic engine, but the gameplay is definitely sacrificed. Also, what ever happend to ngworldstats? Ngworldstats ( an online statistical engine) for the original Unreal Tournament has been down for months and this fact has been a slap in the face to the dedicated players of original UT. In other words, it no longer keeps track of the best UT players in the world.

Review: Its just not worth it, the guns are terrible the game is bad. It takes too much to run. I have a geforce4 TI 4400 and its a little laggy at medium graphics. I think Infogrames shot themselves in the foot with this one. Stick to the older unreal, it holds up much better. Save your money buy something else.

Summary: UT sequel-improved graphics/audio but lacks gameplay :(
Review: I have to admit, when I first played UT the gameplay was good for an all multiplayer game, but ut2003 lacks it. Yet an imroved graphics/audio/AI engine also means that it requires bigger system requirements, ut2003 ran OK on my computer. I use an Intel Pentium 4 procoessor at 1.7ghz(1700mhz), NVDIA GeForce 2 MX FAMILY with TV OUT, 256 MB of RDRAM at 800mhz, CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER LIVE!Value, Direct(R)X 8.1, One 40 GB Hard Drive, 56k Modem Dial-Up Built in [bad] internet connection, and Windows XP home edition. It ran OK, not so well, though the graphics/audio/AI blew me away, and there was an major improvement in that catagory, but in gameplay it defnitley decreased, and there's no good outdoor levels. I truly don't recommend this for an gameplay digger gamer, but for an graphics digger, get it! It requires an Pentium III processor at 733mhz, 128 mb ram, 16 MB 3-D DirectX Compatible Graphics card Accelerarator, like the TNT 2,
DirectX8.1, 3 GB of Hard Drive space, Windows Compatible 16-bit Sound card, 33.6k modem dial up TCIP/Network Play connection to the internet, Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP, and standard mouse and keyboard. P3 1ghz,. 32-128MB 3-D graphics accelerator, like the NVDIA GeForce 2 or ATI Radeon, I'm not sure how much hard drive space is recommended, sound blaster audigy sound card is recommended, 256 mb of ram is recommended, and cable/dsl connection to internet is recommended. This is my review, so I sort of recommended ut2003.....:/

Summary: Deathmatch heaven
Review: Simply, this is an amazing game. It has all the goodness of the orginal and a whole lot more. It has great graphics, better weapsons, skins, maps. Nothing more fun than watching 3 missiles spiraling at ur friend and watching him blow apart. Nothing better than the announcers voice screaming "HeadShot" when u blow someones skull off their shoulders with the lightning gun.

Summary: This game is the ultimate deathmatch.
Review: I have played Quake since Quake I came out and have wasted hundreds of hours of my life becoming an expert at Quake I, II, and III. I can truly say that Unreal2003 is the only game I have even considered to be comparable to Quake. (The original Unreal is a lousy knock off of Quake). It combines everything that is good about Quake and improves it. For example, the difference in gameplay between an expert and a novice is vast. There are so many complex combinations of jumps and moves that an expert can move about without hardly being grazed by a bullet, even in a packed room of shooters. (Not so in Quake III). I agree with some of the criticism above about the goofy announcer's voice--how on earth they decided that voice was consistent with Unreal's image its beyond me. The voice in Quake III is much better (if a voice is needed at all). I also agree that Unreal2003 is trying our patience with the silly "invisibility" and other unnecessary powerups. That said, this game rocks. I have played dm, ctf and bombing run about 50 times and I am hooked. The gameplay is so fast and so fluid and so expertly created that it is impossible to walk away from a game. The graphics are superb. I have them cranked up to the max on a 2.2 gig system with a 64 meg nvidia geforce 3 and it's breathtaking. The characters are creative, detailed and move with appropriate heft and sway. I suspect that those parties above who were so critical are likely playing the game on a slow computer or graphics card. This game demands the fastest computer you can get. I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes quake -- unless you are trying to become a lawyer, in which case, stay the hell away from this and any other addictive first person shooter.

Summary: Worthy Successor to Unreal Tournament *****
Review: At last, the speculation is over and Unreal Tournament 2003 (UT2003) has finally been released. I've been playing this over the past week and resisted the impulse to criticise solely in the basis of it feeling different to UT or being unaccustomed to some of the developments. I've given it a fair try-out in order to form a balanced view before reviewing so that my observations are as objective as possible. Overall my impressions are that UT2003 is definitely a worthy successor (and dare I say improvement)to UT though with a few minor quibbles.
Here's the good news:

* Bugs. As in "where did they go?". Amazingly I have had not even a suggestion of a problem with this release. Well sorted software on the first release - it's an industry first! Maybe the delays in releasing this game gave then a chance to clear up the bugs. Well done.
* The graphics and gameplay are superb. A definite improvement on UT. The resolution is much sharper than UT especially in the scenery.
* The maps are really amazing. Some of them are huge, far bigger than any in UT. Lots of low gravity locations and outdoors too. Some are bizarre and/or spooky and the vast majority are excellent.
* Weaponry is largely similar to UT with some improvements. The Flak Cannon is far deadlier now and other interesting improvements have been made. Also the Bio-sludge rifle is now a formidable weapon.
* The enemy roster is far larger and includes robotics and aliens as well as some very sinister gene-boosted humans. Very spooky.
* All those reviews grumbling about the announcer? Ignore them; the sounds are very good and certainly don't detract from the excitement. The taunts and noises from the far wider roster of enemies are very well sorted. Check out the robotic taunts such as "Your programming is inferior" when you've been blown away by "Widowmaker" for the nth time.
* Lots of other good stuff; too numerous to mention everything.

Taking the rough with the smooth, here's some stuff which I'm a bit wary about:

* Performance, while generally OK overall, takes a dive when too many bots are activated. However, my worst fears on performance overall were unfounded.
* The single-player deathmatch part of the standard game is pretty limited. There's a ladder for team deathmatch but the single-player is not well represented. That's not a problem if you play on-line.
* The alternate fire for the rocket launcher (throw grenade) has been scrapped. Great shame as this reduces the flexibility of the weapon.
* The game is set too fast. This is partially user selectable so unless you want everything looking like a speeded-up cartoon change this setting so slow things down.

Overall though let's be clear, this is a great game which moves forward from UT is a way which most players will appreciate.
