Summary: EVE is like no other game on the market.
Review: I started playing EVE recently, and have really enjoyed it. I look to roleplaying games to take me out of my regular life and let me be some one else in an entirely different world, and EVE accomplishes this like few other games I've played. If you have always wanted to ease your starship into dock and feel like you were really doing it, this is your game. I have read some reviews complaining that the game is slow-moving, but I feel that if it were faster-moving the majesty of the game would suffer. This is not a George Lucas Universe, but more of a Stephen R. Donaldson or Isaac Asimov Universe. It is cerebral, achingly-beautiful, and best savored slowly with the surround sound on and the lights off. The Icelandic team that made EVE chose substance over action, and I for one thank them for it. That said, it can be quite exciting when you come out of warp and find pirates waiting for you by the jumpgate. If you want a deep, thoughtful space opera that makes the most of a high-end gaming system, this is your game.

Summary: The best game experience I've had in a long time
Review: Eve is in many ways what Freelancer was supposed to be: a living, breathing universe with a dynamic, player driven economy. The interface is less than intuative in certain places, and there are a few quirks that still need to be worked out, but overall the game succeeds where it counts: in creating an immersive environment with virtually limitless possibilities.

Eve has a lot more of a sense of atmosphere than many other recent games - the graphics are fantastic, and the background score is very "spacey" - well suited to the genre of the game itself. Gameplay is good - but slow. It takes a while to travel anywhere, and most methods of earning cash, such as mining, involve alot of idle time - just waiting around for some task to complete. In some cases, you can do a load of laundry while playing the game and not miss out on anything. I think the idle time is designed to promote communication - and it works, to a degree. The chat volume in EVE seems much more active than on other MMOs where you're too busy fighting to type, and this gives the game a good sense of community - it reminds you there are other players in the universe.

The universe itself is huge. HUGE. One of the interesting display modes in the interactive 3D map graphicly represents how many players are in each star system at any given time. Zooming out, you realize that even though there are thousands of players in the game at any given time, the vast majority of star systems are completely empty, simply because there are so many of them. That's not to say you won't run into anyone - players tend to congregate in well known systems, as the farther away you go, the more dangerous the environment becomes. It would also probably take many hours to travel from one end of the universe to the other - if not days.

Having said all this, there are quite a few bugs left in the game. The game is also a bit slower in parts than it needs to be, and figuring out the interface is like solving a rubic's cube at times. I've only been playing for a few days, but overall, I REALLY like the experience so far - a welcome relief from all the shallow titles that have been popping up lately.

Summary: This is a great game!
Review: This game has had an bumby start but most of the problems have been solved and the rest will be soon I think. Every game of this scope has had some problems at the start but they developers are doing a great job here.
Buy this game and join the amazing world of Eve! :-)

Summary: Do not buy this game unless you enjoy poor custmer service.
Review: Let me start out by saying this game is one of the coolest MMORPG's that I've seen, especially from a pvp standpoint.

Unfortunately, that will also be a cause of much frustration. As is the trend with MMORPGs, CCP released a game long before it was ready and isn't capable of attending to even the most critical bugs for days. If you buy this game, expect to be teased with a fantastic game only to be driven mad by a bug that renders you unable to play and a completely unresponsive tech support. As is typical, there is no phone number to talk to a live person and their "help" channel rarely has any employees on it.

Summary: Awesome adventure!
Review: Be forewarned - this game is HIGHLY addictive! This being only my second MMOG (I was weaned on Everquest), I decided to take on my peers in the alternate space universe of Eve. From the get-go, this game is different from any others I've tried before. The character creation alone was enough to get me hooked, and getting started was not as difficult as I thought it might be. Once you're in, wow! The graphics are some of the best I've ever seen in any game. But what makes Eve so intriguing is the political and economic structure of the game. With a real time stock market (and pirates waiting around every bend) I've been at the edge of my seat every minute I'm online. Building skills are not as tedious as with most games, and there's always a place to go for newbies who feel overwhelmed.

Overall, Eve has the potential to be a monster hit. Never has a game presented so many options and so little restraints.

Summary: True MMRPG
Review: This is really what massive multiplayer games should play like. This game is so open that really you can do what ever you want in this world I played the beta and I got hooked to the fact that there is not one single path to succes I mean its even hard for me now to play single player games b/c of this game let alone another MMORPG. It took me a few times to understand all of the freedom that is given to me in game but once it clicked I was hooked and most ppl wont have this problem of trying to not get hooked b/c the graphics wheel you in. I say go for Its a graphical tour de force and its the most deep involving MMORPGS to date this is a real MMORPG with real interaction with other palyers.

Summary: The Best MMOG To Date
Review: I don't know who these people are who are trashing Eve, are they really playing the game? I picked it up about a week ago and cannot put it down. The game is unlike anything I have ever played MMOG-wise. Eve is very open ended..like a sandbox mode on steriods. You can do whatever you want to which is something new I think to a lot of gamers.

If you played Earth and Beyond you will drool when you play Eve. Soooo much better.

If you like space based MMOGs this is a must have.

Summary: A fantastic game...but not quite ready for the average gamer
Review: Eve Online: The Second Genesis is an Massively Multiplayer Online Game with amazing graphics and a huge universe open to the player to seek their fortune. Currently, however, it is a game better suited for its devoted fanbase than someone that has not been eagerly following the game through its development period.

In Eve, upon creating their character the player is presented with a choice of 4 races, each with their strengths and weaknesses in basic attributes which determine the ease/difficulty for players to train skills. From there, the player chooses different career pathes, each which provides them with different starting skills.

Once finished creating your character, you are essentially 'turned loose' on the universe. You're completely free at this point to make your fortune any way you want. From mining ore to refine into valuable minerals. To trading commodities on the market. To manufacturing your own items for selling on the market (provided you aquire the necessary minerals and blueprints for those items). Even to being a pirate, preying on others (though there are the small matter of NPC military and police forces to contend with for the more dastardly at heart).

The amount of potential for gameplay makes it extremely difficult to describe Eve in the 1000 words allowed here. But Eve also suffers from some serious issues at the moment, which is the reason for my 2 star rating

Currently Eve is handicapped by:
- Client/Server issues which has led to the ingame deaths of many players, client crashes to desktop, and large numbers of the playerbase being unable to activate their characters.
- Customer Support response times varying from 18+ hours to never. With 'canned' responses too frequently when responding to petitions for help.
- Customer Support being unable to reimburse items/skills lost due to known bugs in their software.
- Customer Support being unable to assist players who are unable to login, telling them to "wait for tomorrow's server reset".
- The developers unable to fully track/log player activities in game, which has already led to a backup restoration of the character database in order to repair the damage done by 1 exploit. This caused all players ingame to lose 12 hours of progress. And is also the reason behind being unable to reimburse losses due to known bugs.
- A lack of good Quality Assurance testing and patching procedures, which has resulted in extended server downtimes, more client/server issues, and the previously mentioned exploit.
- A overall lack of good communications between the developers and the majority of the customer base.
- An economy in flux as both the players and the developers try to find some stability, with it currently clearly favoring those already established than the newer player.
- A fairly hostile community environment on their official forums, as the supporters of the game and the critics of the game (most of which are all paying customers) tear into each other, with little moderation from official sources.

Again, Eve has enormous potential. The developers have created a very ambitious game, both in concept and in game mechanics. But people reading these reviews are deciding on whether to buy Eve right now. Not when it fulfills its potential. And at the moment, I'd recommend anyone that is not an avid fan to wait a month or two. The experience can be extremely frustrating at times, especially for those that aren't willing to wait for the potential. Or are unwilling to look past the current flaws to that potential.

Summary: Great game, needs a little work
Review: This game has such great potential. It has had a few problems after launch, and in all honesty, was launched early. However, the devs have worked hard to fix problems, and have fixed a LOT. This game is very enjoyable, and has so far provided me with many hours of entertainment. Hopefully, it'll provide many more.

If you are looking for a shooter, this is not the game for you. Otherwise, I'd say give it a shot, and ignore all the naysayers.

Summary: This game is for the patient player!!
Review: I have played just about every morg out there and can say that this game has its moments.

The graphics and music are excellent. The leveling system is novel, you do not lvl like most morgs. Instead you train up skills over time, even while your offline. Some skills take only hours (real time not game time) to lvl up and others take days and weeks. Only one skill can be trained at a time.

I am not sure what the end game is though, I'm not sure they know what it is. For the player that likes to mine and manufacture this is the game for you. The travel can be tedious and finding good hunting spots can be difficult.

Death can be rather expensive. You can lose very expensive ships very fast. In addition to the monetary loss you lose skills even if you have a clone set up. Without a clone prepared you can lose even more of your skills.

Most games that launch these days seem to have their share of bugs and this game isn't any different. I am not as concerned about the bugs being fixed as I am about the ultimate end game. What is it??
