Summary: For a complete newbie this got me hooked
Review: I couldn't even begin to tell you what the rules of D&D are, let alone what hit points or how important consitution is to a character. My boyfriend actually has me hooked on this game, and I have to confess I really like it. My only points of concern are the henchman/sidekicks you get. You have very little control over them, as compared to "Dungeone Siege". "Neverwinter Nights" is a very wordy game. You need to talk to a variety of people in the game to ascertain what your next quest is etc. Its a very exciting game that you can truly play for hours on end, or until your neck is so stuff you need to get up and move around.

Summary: Could have been so much more
Review: Let me preface by saying that I followed NWN's development almost from the moment it was announced. I waited with great anticipation for its release and paid [$$$] for it the day it came out. I was ready to overlook some minor flaws because I had seen the game and read the hype and I just knew it was right up my alley.I want to give this game more than 3 stars, I really do, and I don't want anyone to get the impression that this is not a fantastic feat of programming, because it absolutely is, but there are disappointments that must be addressed. First of all, the game is skewed toward melee classes. I played a monk with a cleric henchman and had no need for a magic user. The appeal of D&D and other RPGs is the fact that different skills are needed and that they enhance one another. In NWN, at least in the included campaign, fighters and healers will do the job. Magic-users are superfluous. Second, money and treasure are far too easy to acquire. Upon completing the single player game, my monk had several hundred thousand gold pieces and was selling nice enchanted weapons and armor because he couldn't hold them and already had the top of the line. This kills the incentive to continue in a big way. Third, your character maxes out at level 20. If you play the single player game all the way through, you will get to level 20, period. It is too easy to get there and once you do get there, what next? Why keep playing that character online or elsewhere? Another incentive killer. Fourth, the pre-release press promised everything the 3rd ed rules had. In anticipation, I purchased the Monster Manual. Well, most of the monsters aren't in the game (not just the single player, but the toolset as well), including some very popular opponents, and there's no way to create your own monsters, so unless BioWare plans to release a monster library, you're stuck with just a few of the monsters. Examples of missing monsters include Kobolds, Gelatinous Cubes, Owlbears, and Manticores, just to name a few. Fifth, the toolset is very easy if you just want to place monsters and treasure, but if you want to add some complex puzzles, you will have to learn C++ (or a close facsimile). Don't expect to fire it up and whip out a creative module. It will take some time, and be prepared for all of your locations to be rectangular grids. Having said all this, NWN is a good game, but it is not the ultimate CRPG. I would recommend it for all CRPG fans, but you may want to let the price drop a tad. In the meantime, I'm crossing my fingers for a FREE monster expansion.

Summary: Spent ... dollars on a game I STILL can't play.
Review: This game is so full of bugs that it crashed my system. Over and over again. I updated everything. Even bought a new graphics card. I upgraded from a GeForce2 to a brand new GeForce4 64 Mb DRR. The game still crashes...plays for a few hours... then crashes again...after several hard reboots; it freezes...then plays...then crashes...etc. It's sad really because its a very beautiful looking game with real potential. Since not some people ARE capable of enjoying gameplay without problems (lucky dawgs!), I'd advise to buy at your own risk. If your system crashes, it's not your comp it's the game! However, don't be surprised if your comp never runs the same again even after a complete uninstall!

Summary: DO NOT BUY unless you have a new computer...
Review: Ultimately, the Federal Trade Commission and other consumer-protection groups should put a stop to what ... has done here: market a product that does not work on a significant number of its customers' computers. You will find reviews here where people assert: "Hey, it works on *my* computer, so it will work fine on yours, too."
But before you make an impulsive purchase, check out ... so-called customer service page and see how many people feel .... It is this simple--the company does not care if the game does not work. Retailers will generally not accept a return once you open software.
Also, if you want to take chance and try to fiddle with it to make it work, take note that ... and ... do not even offer customer support on the phone. Via the internet, they send boilerplate form letter responses that will probably not help you troubleshoot. Stay away from this game unless you are fond of flushing money down the drain and awarding it to a low-quality arrogant company.

the company has not fixed a worldwide problem with their latest patch. Patch 1.21 has a thing that scans your registry or something to check for anytime of hackering software. Even a cd write, which might be my problem will not let you play the game. Find a friend who has it, rent one if you have a pc rental place or just search the forums you can to see if you might be able to actually play it with the new patch from heck. Just heed my warnings .. 4 weeks and I still can't play with anyone cause I don't know how to fix the bloody thing. If you are interested in NWN, but haven't bought it yet. !!DON'T!! For whatever reason they have, (insert favorite slang word) person has helped me either. Secondly, it's not fully even partially 3e rules. You don't get all the weapons. Barely 1/2 the skills. Only can scribe scrolls or make potions. If you don't blow yourself up in the process. The toolset is generic, world mapping to small. 10 different types of the same monster. It's VERY lacking in what we read about. Please don't waste your money on this til you actually have tried it, and amazingly like it.

chapter two. the game runs at very bad frame rate even
for my new computer a pentium 4 with a geforce 2 mx
and building a module is nearly impossible (believe me I've tried)
the only good thing about the game is playing online.

Review: i have played this game and there are many things to be said for and against it. it has a great look and feel. when things are running smoothly they are beautiful. but the game stutteres alot, especially at animations. the sound quality could be a bit better, and there are a lot of other bugs that are both major and small but really annoying.
the game itself is very fun, the storyline well thought of. the character have a life all to themselves.
the graphics are very well done. in game play it is good that you get to zoom in and out to get better angles of the battle. with the character looking so much larger it is better to see them.
still over all i would have to say that baldurs gate 2 is the better game. not just with having more than 1 character in your group. it runs smoother and i love the storyline it has. i recommend either just staying with the baldurs gate series or taking this game with a grain of salt.

Summary: Lives up to the hype! Awesome game!
Review: Neverwinter Nights is the best role-playing game I've ever played on a computer. The single player story isn't as good as Baldur's Gate 2, but the overall game, combining the DM client and the Toolset, and the superior multiplayer game, makes this game truly excellent. This is the first game that successfully brings tabletop Dungeons & Dragons to the computer, with a live Dungeon Master and infinitely customizable adventures. It's every D&D geek's dream come true. I won't buy another computer game until the expansion or sequel for this game comes out. It's that good.

Summary: Want to install this game? Want sound to work?
Review: Tough. This game is loaded with problems. It will not install (to install you have to take the sound card out and copy the cd image to disk). After it finally does the sound kills the game. This is not a consumer quality game.
The idea is great, but the timing is bad. It looks like BioWare didn't even test Win2000. Why do they claim it's supported on the box?
IMHO buy it used if you must have it or wait for them to release software worth paying full price.

Summary: I like it.
Review: This seems to be a great game if you liked playing D&D but all your friends have moved away. I have enjoyed both the single-player and the LAN-based games. Haven't tried internet games yet. D&D rules are faithfully represented with a few minor revisions. I haven't played D&D since AD&D 1st edition, but I don't have any problem understanding how things work. A few minor problems stopped me from giving it five stars. Frequent patches. (But at least the do patches!) I've had a few system lockups, but a reboot seems to clear them. NWN doesn't seem to like MacAfee VShield running. Better luck with virus scanning turned off. All in all, It was well worth the [money]. Dave
