Summary: For the cellconnected gamer
Review: Download and maintence:
Counterstrike (like any continually developing game) requires the download of many patches and updates to keep current. Therefore because this lacks any single player mode (without download of specific patches and updates) this game is only for the well connected. At the time of this writing Sierra and Valve have released patch 1.5 to fix menu and lag issues also to add more weapons models and levelse to the game. This patch is bad, the r1.4 to r1.5 patch (19mb) is buggy and the full patch (b3 to r1.5)(137mb) is the only patch that is adequate. Third party maps specific to certain clans and other mods are also large (4-300mb) depending on the complexity of game play desired. Therefore this game is only for those who are willing to continually download large (lol-er) files inorder to enjoy the game to its fullest.

Gameplay and future:
Counterstrike is currently the largest online multiplayer community in a first shooter but this IS expected to change, while very popular and fun this game will have had its days. The RealmsEngine (aka:QuakeII) that that HalfLife was created on only requires a P90 with 16mb ram to run; this is inadequate to play Half-Life on enjoyabley on requiring a p166 with 32mb ram and some form of video accelerator. Newer multiplayer mods require far more; a p266 with 64mb Ram and a 3Dcard of no less than 8mb is required. Even higher systems such as my Athlon1.7 with 1gb ram, 64mb Voodoo5500 video card, dsl 1/10mb connection and Seitek GM1 ...will only get the full expirience of the latest versions, but even on a p133 it is still fun. The needed connection varies since skilled users can work within the limitations a 56k (13kb actual) dial up using ping and rate commands and horrible users can't play without cheating with a T1(2-10mb actual) connection.

The gamplay is not repetitive, the original maps are popular but tools to build more exotic worlds exist in abundance providing unlimited replayability IF you download the needed patches updates and files. Obsolencence of this game is as likely as the obsolencece of Shadowrun or D&D as groups of geeks and nerds (myself the later) will continue to develop new levels and scenarios to keep the game interesting the only problem, finding other such freaks to play with, has been solved by the internet.

Summary:
The Realms/QuakeII/Halflife/Counterstrike Engine is avaible free legaly and the various mods (games) for these are also free legaly the only reason to buy the game is for the WON access number that is not availble free legaly (but easy to find) therefore buy ANY halflife game and the download the full mod for that precious number because it will still cost you a good 300mb download that you will have to wait for with a fair SIX-HUNDRED-THOUSAND other players. Whit this many active players who are willing to wait I'll let you evaluate how good this has to be.

PS:
The Shadowrun Game Club (SR0) is in the Pearson Communications Building every 17th. We always welcome new players, no game set required.

Summary: No Life
Review: OK, I play this game at least 2 hours a day. It is so much fun and its very addicting. The only real problem with this game is that there are a lot of hackers that play. But Valve has recently come out with a new cheat provention method so there are less and less hackers. The best part of it is the clan aspect. Just groups of friends togeather to face other clans the teamwork that can be done in un-real. With radio commands and now voice mods so you can speek with your team durring gameplay. All-in-all its one of the best games i have ever played and i think it will be for a long time.

Summary: Don't buy it.
Review: You can download this for free, so don't buy it. I don't know why Counterstrike is available as a separate game when you can buy Half-Life for the same price and then download Counterstrike, not to mention other mods. If this was priced lower than Half-Life, I could see a point. As it is, just get Half-Life and download Counterstrike. Marketing problems aside, this is a great game. You choose to play as Terrorists or Counter-Terrorists. Depending on the map, you have to either rescue hostages (if you're Counter-Terrorist: Terrorists have to prevent them from being rescued), bomb a location (if you're Terrorist: Counter-Terrorist must prevent the bomb from going off), bring a VIP player who has extra armor but can't buy weapons to a certain location (Counter-Terrorists do this), and one other thing that I've never played:) Either force can win by eliminating all the opponents on the other side. You buy your weapons, armor and accessories at the beginning of each round. You accumulate more money if you win, but you still are rewarded some if you lose. The ONLY downside to this game is that it crashes often. It will sometimes fail to load maps when changing locations online, and the game almost always fails to close properly. This minor qualm aside, Counterstrike is still one of the best games of its class (or mods, as it is) and is certainly worth owning.

Summary: this game rocks
Review: let me put it simply: this game is amazing. basically, in the game you are either a terrorist or a counter-terrorist trying to complete various objectives depending on the map-such as bombing something, rescuing hostages, or the most fun one: eliminating the other side. the weapons are all real-life and just realistic enough to be fun but not annoying (ex: extreme recoil is very perturbing). this game is definitely one of the best ever, even though the graphics are a bit bad because of its age(which really doesn't matter) get this game if you have a fast internet connection, otherwise it will probably be choppy and not fun. also, there are thousands of servers running cs(i recommend homelan servers) and always tens of thousands of people playing, no matter what time it is(time seems not to exist when playing!). Otherwise, this game is constant action and strategy blended perfectly. the sequel, counter-strike:condition zero, will be released in august 2002, definitely get it!

Summary: LAN
Review: ok, ive gone to java and internet cafes that support lan and have CS. When i go there the only game i play is Half-Life Counter-strike. this game is AWESOME. for those who havent played it, this isnt one of those games where they advertise it good but when u buy it it [stinks]. the graphics are suprisingly good for a nineteen ninety-nine game. in conclusion no matter if you have played it or not, GET THIS GAME

Summary: Why?
Review: Why would anybody pay money for this when you can buy HALF-LIFE for 20 bucks and download it for free along with hundreds of other mods. TFC and DoD are much better anyway. Save yourself the money and buy Half-Life instead.
