Summary: Great Buy!
Review: you get two high quality Star Trek games for a very small amount of money. even though they are in jewel cases, there are instruction booklets in each case so you do get a printed manual. i have WinXP on my 1 year old Pentium 4 system with a GeForce3 Ti200 graphics card and Audigy Gamer sound card and both games run flawlessly.

you can't lose at this price.

Added:

a helpful tip: i did have some mouse lag problems with Dominion Wars when i first began playing a campaign. i was not sure exactly what the problem was because it seemed to work OK in skirmish mode. so i searched the net and discovered that resetting screen colors to 16-bit instead of 32-bit would solve the problem and it seems to so far. so all you have to do is to reset your screen color resolution before playing and then reset back when you are done. is easy to do.

DS9 The Fallen played flawlessly right from the beginning. and it is a good, high quality game too. it is a first person shooter with nice graphics and a good DS9 story line.

Summary: Let's see....PLAY THE GAME BEFORE you gripe about it...
Review: That lady who left a bad review here recently does not, obviously, understand that a more complex game (that will include a romance for th elead character) needs to be more realistic. Unless she wants to see girl on girl action in this sequel. Give me a break. ONE star because there's no girl in the game? I have played the demo as well, and can fully agree that this has the potential to extend the star trek universe in MANY positive ways. Graphics are , as expected, superb. Plot line hasn'
t really been revealed too much yet. However, it is known that the plot will be taken from the series. In the finale of the tv show the voyager went into a wormhole. Then, they went to a commercial. After the commercial, they came out of the wormhole and nothing was ever explained as to what had happenned inside the wormhole. This game is the answer. Very interesting. I have seen that the system requirements are relatively low compared to todays' average powerhouse game releases...

Summary: Elite Force Strikes Back
Review: I recently ordered Star Trek Elite Force 2 and from what I have learned the game will include brand new weapons, never before seen, more holomatches on holodeck, and of coarse- what we have been waiting for-Roaming mode, where you can walk the Enterprise vessel controling all that happens, and interacting with Members on the ship. I own Star Trek: Voyager Collectors edition and I know the graphics are very nice...but with Elite Force 2 the graphics look almost like a humanlike movie. Even if you dont watch Enterprise on UPN every Wednesday night at 9pm you will enjoy this game.

Summary: There is more to this then what's in the package.
Review: I didn't purchase the Action Pack, but have these games separately. All are good out of the box, but what makes them great (In armada 1&2 anyway) is the online community. There are mods online you can add to the games themselves. Armada 1 (my favorite) has ships available from babylon 5, starwars and a host of others. You can do voiceovers on individual ships with any wav you care to install. I have ships commanded by Ash (from evil dead), Buffy the Slayer and even Cartman from Southpark. What a riot that is. This makes the game play almost endless. Voyager Elite Force is also excellent. Great graphics and alot of online web support. These are games that can keep on giving and for the money you will be hard put to beat it.

Summary: Even better than the first ....
Review: This game is great. I just downloaded the single player demo, and it is totally awesome! all new features like the tricorder really add to the excitement!

Summary: The DEMO is OUT!!! IT IS AMAZING!!!
Review: The graphics in Elite Force 2 are FANTASTIC!!! Out of all of the games using the Quake3 engine - these have to be the Best Graphics I have seen! The detail is second to none!! I am having a hard time writing this review because of how great this games is (demo) and I am having a hard time puting it into words! OHhhhh - this is also COOL! Music in games is always great...puts you in the mood.... Elite Force 2 took it to the next level and made it JUST LIKE A MOVIE! If the action gets tense - the music adjusts to be more intense.... if an apponent appears in the distance...the music adjusts to make you feel like something is going to happen (even if you can barely see them)....it is really hard to describe - it is MUCH better than I'm describing it. Its not just a pre programmed "play this music when the player gets to this point" sort of thing - it REALLY adjusts to the environment you are in and what is going on!!! If you haven't tried the demo - GET IT!!

This definately deserves higher than a 5!!! YES....its THAT GOOD!

Summary: Great story
Review: This game really astounds you when you first play it, what with the beautiful graphics and all. Starbase 12 looks amazing. It's 100 times bigger than your craft and glows bluish-white.

But as you play the game, you realize that there isn't very much to do. You are given orders by the admiral, and you give orders to your crew. You just sit there as they do most of the work. Sure you can take control of the weapons during a fight, but the fights are never very engaging. They are slow-paced and just a little too simple.

It's the story that kept me playing. It's an excellent Star Trek story that sounds like it could have been an episode of one of the TV shows.

Still, it's probably not worth buying just for the story.

Summary: Space the Final Frontier
Review: Star Trek: Armada II is the funest Star Trek game that I have ever played. And as the Federation I have built lots os ships and stations. I also played as the Klingons and Borg in the campaigns. I like using the cheat code the makes it so none of you starships or stations get destroyed. I use the cheat code because I do not want my ships or anything else I build to get destroyed. I want to import other ships into the game. I give this game a five star rating!!!

Summary: This is a MUST BUY!
Review: If this game is anywhere near as good as the first one, it'll be awesome! Elite Force (1) is by far the best computer game I have ever played. I am expecting Elite Force 2 to be at least as good, if not better.

Summary: Could be Better
Review: This is one of those games that could really be great, if but for a few serious disappointments. While I would never call myself a Star Trek fanatic, I did enjoy this game... for a while, at least. It is generally a decent game, but has a steep learning curve and can be extremely frustrating at times.

The first and most obvious problem with the game is bugs. LOADS of bugs, and many of them very serious (i.e. game breaking). Fortunately, the SFC 2 community has been working to address these problems, and is still active and helpful. If you get the game, definitely get the latest patch. It will save you a great deal of pain.

About that learning curve- only a Trekkie who wants to push every one of those funny colored lights on the TV show would ever appreciate an interface like this. There are enough buttons to make starting the game discouraging for beginners, though the tutorials do a relatively good job of explaining things. In single play you can also pause to issue orders, but for multiplay you really have to know the hotkeys. There are more hotkeys in this game than any other I've played- literally the entire keyboard is used.

One of the worst problems with this game is difficulty. I'm not sure how the designers come up with missions for you, but I suspect it's purely random. It's entirely possible you'll accept a mission that is utterly impossible, given the firepower you have at any particular point. Until you have three battleships, it's recommendable you save in a new slot after every mission. My first mission in SFC 2 was a blast- literally- when they stuck my poor little frigate up against a space monster that didn't stop firing plasma torpedoes. The good news is you can't ever get completely wiped out, since they always give you a frigate to play with. The bad news is if you keep getting wasted, you'll never get anywhere and the required missions will quickly become impossible to complete.

Though the game has a 3-D look, it's not really a 3-D experience. You maneuver along a single plane with no Z-axis to speak of. Pretty much all the maneuvering you do is throttle up and down, and steer left and right. You can't reverse or roll your starships. What is kind of funny is that there's no collisions despite the fact that you're all on the same level. You can fly right through enemy ships, and you really should because it's impossible to miss at that range. I can see why the designers didn't allow you to maneuver with depth, as this would make lining up your weapons even more impossible than it already is, but this makes the game play in a very 'fake' manner. It also makes it impossible to hide from enemies, even if you have cloak.

The starships in the game behave more or less like they're 'supposed to,' which does NOT mean that everything goes like it does in the movies. Photon torpedoes seem to have terminal homing problems and almost never hit in 'normal' mode. You can load up your ships with missiles, mines, shuttles, and fighters for more reliable damage, but things largely degenerate to phaser/disruptor slugging matches. Those, by the way, take so long to charge that even an easy battle can last ten minutes.

The game's graphics are good, even for now. Weapons look like they do in the movies, and the ships have good detail. There are enough unique types of vessels to make the game fun to watch, though there aren't actually as many unique designs as advertised. The vessels you see here are largely the older Trek ones- not including Next Generation, DS9, etc. There are also many ships that don't appear anywhere, but Taldren made up. They did a good job modeling them, however, so they don't look goofy.

The game's sound really needs work. The soundtrack is good and the weapons sound like they should, but you'll immediately notice how scarce the voiceovers are. Essentially, you get alert reports, some damage reports, and Sulu's voice in the tutorial. That's pretty much it- the rest is text flashed on the screen in ridiculously small print, and sometimes faster than you can read. Most of the plot is conveyed in this manner, so keep a finger handy on that pause button for these times.

The missions, in addition to being occasionally bugged, are sometimes ambiguous. You are given orders at the start, and it's all or nothing to the finish (no saving in the middle). Some are characterized by long stretches of flying through empty space, which is exceedingly dull. You command up to three starships, but only one directly. You can issue general commands to the others, but they sometimes behave quite stupidly. They also follow you no matter what, which can be good or bad. Sometimes you really want one of your ships to withdraw from battle, but the only way to do this is take command of it yourself and fly off. Unfortunately, the others will also tag along. Then again, this is exactly what you want when you run into an impossible encounter.

My last gripe is the naming conventions. They use a rather counterintuitive system of letters, pluses, and dashes to designate ships. Even worse, each race has different designations for equivalent ships. It's very important to know what the designations are, since you really don't want to charge your frigates at a line of dreadnoughts. The only good way to do this is to spend an eternity in the tech library, which is somewhat less than fun. If Trek ships looked more distinctive, it could be easier to tell the various types apart. I think they do in newer episodes of the series, but these are the old ones and they all look similar.

Though in general I think SFC 2 is a good game, it could have been a whole lot better. I'm curious to see where this franchise is going, and might even get the sequel. However, due to the problems with this one, I think I'll wait for it to get cheaper.
