Summary: great.... if you get the thing to work
Review: i saw this game last year in stores and immediately shelled out [$$] for it. so you can imagine how [upset] i was when i took it home and found that it wouldn't load on my laptop. the autoplay did not work. so i figured my dell 3800 was just too old and loaded it on a more current machine. it seemed to work all right; until i attacked the enemy forces, at which point the game decided to restart the whole computer.
i gave it 2 stars because of the better than average graphics, and the excellent AIs. the best feature is the ability to build a general and easily label/create units. from playing combat games in the past, i know that when you are under attack, you need to find your military, and the ability to hit F3 to highlight all your ships really simplifies the process. plus the generals (or i guess admiral would be better since the game is only ships) give weaknesses and strengths to the units you put them with, and have a type of personality of their own: be it aggressive or more docile.
also, i liked the wormhole feature. you can guard or destroy wormhole gates and setup shipping lanes which seem to be quite realistic.
unfortunately, i was never able to fight, so i don't know how the game panns out overall. but i definately recommend getting the game if you think you can make it work.

Summary: Better than you'd think
Review: Superb graphics. Clean AI. Truly exciting battles. Creative strategies. And, i had no problem with this on my own system. I even have windows xp and i got this to run very easily. Don't knock this game because some guy knows so little about his own computer that instead of trouble-shooting, he goes out and gets another one and even IT wont run the program. I thik this game was and still is underrated. Massive levels with a pretty cool multiplayer setup (8 players on my lan!) The background (space, mostly) is BEAUTIFUL. Runs on a moderate system. Athlon 900 / 1 gig ram(pc 133)/ geforce 4 4800 (128 ddr) / soundblaster audigy 2 / 12x dvd+rw drive / 24x cd-rom drive There is a little rough language, which is where the fifth star went. There's little need for that in a great game like this. It takes away from it, really. It just feels forced.
