Summary: Still a fun game...TS v RA2?
Review: Being the third major installment of the all time great C&C seris tiberian sun was released in 1999 with enormous anticipation and fanfare. Unforunately the game didn't seem to live up to the hype but looking back today a few years later tiberian has stood the test as a fine solid game and now that it is basically at a bargain bin price i certainly think it's worth a look even for those who already own red alert 2. The main difference that i see between TS and RA2 is the look. Where the characters in RA2 are a bit too large the ones in TS may be a bit too small. RA2 has a more straight forward look much like ra1 were Ts has that cool golden dusk look. Since TS is a fantasy sci fi game almost anything goes where RA2 is based on more conventional warfare. That extra room for creative activity helps make TS a fun game. One example is the hunter seeker feature were you can create a drone attached to an explosive. This drone will take off on it's own and randomly attach itself and destroy an enemy unit or structure. You must have this feature because your opponent will. Another feature i like is the component towers were you make the towers early and later buy the defensive attachment. There's a vulcan cannon for fighting infantry, the grenade launcher and the anti air sam.

The concept for TS is the good guys, global defense initiative(GDI) vs the religious brotherhood of the nod, a fanatical terrorist group. Sounds familiar? Certainly a concept appropriate for today but the NOD is the military equal to the GDI. Both sides are distinctive and different. The GDI is more muscular and has more fire power while the nod relies on stealth and sneaky tactics. Strategy is far more important here than just cranking out more tanks than your opponent. For example the nod has an apc that can burrow under ground. Pack the thing full of infantry or engineers and sneak into the middle of an opponents camp underground only to resurface unleashing the attack. The gdi has ways to counter this however. A mobile sensor can be built that will detect the apc on radar and concrete can be placed down so the unit can't resurface in vulnerable areas of your camp. Some "new" features that differ from the original C&C and RA. A single engineer can take over an opponents building, infantry can't just be run over by vehicles and you have the deployable mcv feature that allows you to pack up your command center and move it.

Some other pros-
Being a 1999 game it doesn't require much computer.
Almost always runs smoothly.
Still a fairly vibrant online community with plenty of opponents to play.
Cheap! Only $... or $... if you also want the firestorm pack.
Very colorful and pleasant to look at. Graphics still look good compared to games that were released a couple of years later.
A 10 minute patch update that can be downloaded from the game.
A seemingly unlimited number of free mods that can be dowloaded off the internet.
The opportunity to make expensive powerful units like the mammoth tank.

There are a few negatives about the game. No naval units at all even though you have these really cool looking rivers. And a limited air force. Orca helicopters are pretty cool but that's it. Most mods are too extreme and change the game too much and there are very few maps you can download. No coop play.

Over all this is a fun game with the opportunity to change through mods. The graphics are cool and strategy is more important than with the prior C&C releases. Worth about 4 stars but at this price it gets 5.

Summary: Tiberian Sun, so many options, so little time.
Review: This is a fun game. I got the Platinum edition and it has a few ectra things. Things! Not actual game options. No, it has the same game options as the normal edition. But the graphics are a MAJOR improvement over Red Alert and Command and Conquer. The story is again very cool. The between mission videos are very interesting and cool looking, especially the one with the GDI Mammoth Mk. 2 stomping everything Nod, though there is a lack of Nod end mission videos. You can easily modify the rules file to change the game yourself if you get board after playing it non-stop 12 hours a day, or you can download game mods from the many different web sites made for it. Some of those are as follows: www.tiberiumsun.com, www.tiberiansun.com, www.westwood.com, www.tsden.com, or the last I know, www.realts.com . This is a cool strategy game. The skirmish mode can be very hard if you adjust the game setting that way, the multiplayer options are the easiest I have seen out of the Trilogy,(which I now own), the missions are not too too hard, but if you get stuck, just visit any of the above sites and get a walkthrough or two or three. You don't need any $150 graphics accelerator either. This is a fun stratagy game.

Summary: Tiberian Sun is still the best of the C&C/Red Alert series!
Review: When it comes to single-player (solo) gaming, Tiberian Sun is the best of
the C&C/Red Alert series! Why? Let me count the reasons.

Tiberian Sun missions are the most varied and interesting. It isn't all
about building up a base and destroying the enemy's base. When you play as
a GDI or NOD, you think one side really is superior (I thought GDI was
until I realized NOD had better defensive base capabilities). The units &
vehicles were really ahead of its time when you compare the game to RA or
RA2. And lastly, TS really was harder for me compared to the other series.

When it comes to multi-player (online) gaming, I imagine that TS is the
best to play with too, although I imagine that NOD gets played an
overwhelming amount due to its superior defensive base technologies and
offensive weapons (stealth, artillery, destructive chemical weapons,
lasers, burrowing, etc). The only good thing I can think about GDI is if
someone gets to build too many bombers, then GDI will attrition NOD to
death.

Summary: Bargain bin at release
Review: I wanted Tiberian Sun from the day I heard it was in the make. I thought Westwood had taken the Blizzard route and waited until a game was near perfect to release it. WRONG. This game is nothing short of terrible. You have 2 races and basically the same troops for each race with few exceptions. There are no powerups and no upgrades. I thought Red Alert was an excellent game until Starcraft was released. Believe me dont waste your money on this game. It is not up to par with Red Alert and not even on the same planet as Starcraft or Age of Empires II. Save your cash and get Starcraft or AOE II if you want a real time strategy game. It has deformable terrain which is an interesting idea, thus, the extra star. Otherwise it earns 1 star in all catergories, ecspecially graphics, its like watching an ant farm at work.

Summary: One of The Best Games Ever
Review: I never liked strategy games but this one is different. Great graphic with blood and corpses when you bomb or kill your enemies. Gets harder as you play but if you plan out your assault then you'll definately win the mission.
Great music and reminds me of the creatures game music.. same company..

Summary: This game is excellent!
Review: I bought this game after borrowing RA2 from a friend and I decided to buy TS because I had played it before and it was really good. It has a rather small display which lacks in detail but is perfect to see what is going on. The units have variety, but GDI and NOD are a bit too similar, for instance both sides have the same type of MCV, but on RA2 they are different. It's just aesthetical. But some units are so [incredibly awsome] that they alone can keep you glued to the screen for hours, trying to devise a strategy to take them out. I find that NOD Banshees or GDI Orca bombers in groups of five or six can be used to take out the enemy MCV, then the other buildings. The NOD Artillery are really good defense and attack if you can afford to support them with Mobile Repair Vehicles and some sort of tank (Buggies do well, but die fast). The Component Tower idea is a bit stupid though. GDI Firestorm Defense is good but annoying and the walls are annoying to build (piece by piece, unlike RA2) and annoying to repair. The in-game movies are a bit disgusting, but the soundtrack is really good. Overall, it is a great game and one of Westwood's best productions.

Summary: IT'S GOOD, BELIEVE ME!!! (the games cooler than some say)
Review: I'm a die hard Blizzard fan and for all of my knowlege, Starcraft is the best game for the pc, EVER, PERIOD. When I saw Tiberian sun for the first time it seemed as if they were trying to convince people that when you rip-off a well known software company (Blizzard in this case) you get an awesome game. However I DIDN'T think the same. For a while i HATED the thing. But like many games I start out hating, it eventualy becomes one of my favorite games. This game is actually one of the only games i play now (behind Starcraft) while I wait lustfully for C&C generals. anyway, unlike what some people say it doesn't need to be like all good games with upgrades and such. And only having 2 races with slightly idetical troops is kind of a refreshing break from all thr sci-fi stuff. In my mind it's more like REAL, down to present day/near futureish combat. It's actually one of the ost unique games i've played that isn't horrible beyond belief Though it isn't THAT good of a game, i still give it 4 stars and any1 who thinks otherwise should just keep playing it until thay start to like it.

Summary: I like it less than Red Alert
Review: I thought Red Alert was a pretty fun game. This was just a clone of red alert though. The people that make C&C need to come up with some more ideas. All the C&C games are exactly the same. I didn't like Red Alert to start with so Tiberian Sun has to be worse.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Dont bother
Review: Well, if you have Red Alert 2 - or are trying to get into the C&C world - this is not where you need to go. Red Alert 2 is WAY better. As for TS - its repetative, meaning once you beat both clans (you are one, or the other - and thats IT) missions (if you bother) you will probably never play it again. There are no add ons worth a darn, there are no special units to get excited over...its confusing, its slow, it has silly premesis behind it, and- its just no fun...PS: I have been told to stay away from GENERALS too - RA2 forever!
