Review: Promoted as "From the people who brought you RollerCoaster Tycoon," I thought I would love this game. After going through a uninspiring tutorial and three levels, I was bored. Nothing really changes as you increase in each scenerio and I found myself completely uninterested. I'm not sure who this game is intended for, as adults will be quickly bored and it may be a bit complicated for most children. If you like RollerCoaster Tycoon, continue to enjoy it! Monopoly Tycoon is likely to tire you quickly.

Review: Monopoly Tycoon is great. You learn a lot from it on how supply and demand works and how you can go bankrupt real easy if your not careful. It is a really exciting game. I like it a lot.

Summary: Not bad, but not Monopoly, either
Review: Monopoly Tycoon is significantly different from the Monopoly board game we've all played, so even if you liked the original game, you might not like this one. Monopoly Tycoon is a real-time strategy game where the object is to build up city blocks and satisfy the needs of the city's residents in order to win. The pace is fast, and the computer opponents know the rules and play hard even on the easy difficulty level.

Let me point out that you CAN play games against the computer without playing a scenario. I've read reviews that say this is impossible, but they are mistaken. The game allows you to host a multiplayer game with up to five computer opponents. You can also select various types of win conditions. Even though you are hosting a multiplayer game, if you want to play by yourself, simply start the game without any human opponents. Simple. But be warned; when playing multiplayer, you cannot pause the game nor speed up the clock.

There are a lot of positives to this game. I've had no problems installing or playing the game, and I only have a Pentium III/500 Mhz. The graphics are excellent -- true 3D with easy camera controls, wonderful lighting effects, night and day, cars and people that move about the streets, and more. The environment really makes the game -- it is well done and fun to look at.

Unfortunately, you don't spend much time looking at your creations. You're always on the lookout for new business opportunities, which typically means identifying a need for a given block (for example, your citizens might want a grocery store) and then building the appropriate store to service that need. Repeat indefinitely. You rarely have time to sit back and appreciate what you've built! The game does have some time-saving features that become easy to use with practice. But ultimately I found myself wishing that I had some time to enjoy my city.

There's some fun buried beneath the surface of this game, but it won't appeal to the average gamer. Unless you like economic warfare mixed with real-time strategy, this game probably isn't for you. And it really doesn't bear much relation to Monopoly. But it's still an innovative game, and it's certainly fun to look at -- when you feel you can spare the time just to look!

Summary: Good but not Great
Review: Infogrames' Monopoly Tycoon is a decent variation on the classic board game, but I couldn't really get into this as a "strategy" game because very few of the games go longer than 10 full turns. The computer logic is very fuzzy, I can win 70% of the scenarios by doing the same thing game after game. The computer makes some decisions that you have to question, like selling products out so that all their stores churn no profit?? And of course, you want to buy a land lease, every computer opponent decides they want it too and they want it at any price. (assume you are buying St. James place and you don't own Tenn. or New York). Now if the computer wants something (Say Atlantic and they have Marvin Gardens, but not Ventnor) no one cares and unless you bid the price up, no one else and they get sweet deals. My favorite thing to do is own a Railroad, then try and buy another with 5 other computer players... holy cow. I watched them bid the B&O Railroad up to $2500, (you will only make $1000 over the 5 turns with B&O under your control)

For the most part it's a fun game, not worth the $39.99 list price though.

Review: I finished all levels in this game. Know I am done, they could have added so much more and made it more challenging. My grandkids are more likely to like it. I wasted my money on this game. So far the top game is roller coaster I am still playing that after l year.

Summary: I wasted my money so you don't have to
Review: This game freezes up a lot right at start-up and even when it doesn't it takes a long time to load. You aren't able to do <Ctrl> + <Alt> + <delete>, you have to do it unsafe and I fear that this had made my computer unstable.
As if that in itself isn't a big enough nuisance, its compounded ten-fold when you are trying to attract people online for a match. By the time you reboot 5 times trying to get the game to start and your oppontents do the same, you can pretty much gaurentee that an online match rarely transpires.
As for the game play itself, its just no fun. At least in monopoly when you have your eye on some property its left up to chance with a role of the dice. On this game its all up to whomever types the fastest with the fastest internet connection. If you stop to devise a strategy, someone else hogs all the good property.This game has only one strategy: all you have to do is gobble up all the cheap real estate with one each of every business before anybody else has a chance and then monitor them to make sure you are always undercutting your opponents. You will always win because they will be stuck paying higher rent.
Finally, I was drawn towards purchasing this game because the box said you can decide how your businesses will look. Not hardly! All you get to do is choose between 20 different colors of brick shades!

Summary: It is okay if you didn't expect it to be Monopoly...
Review: I was very disappointed with this game when I first played it.
It is not at all like the board game. In this game the players
do not take turn. In the scenario I am on now, there are three
computer players and me. The computer players all play at once, and I don't have time to even look at the menus and figure out what to do before they have gone through their pre-planned agenda... It is not fun to rush the game and not have time to think about strategy. The auctions are especially annoying. It takes forever after you decide to buy something to have the auction come up, and then they seem to take too long. And while you are waiting for the auction the computer players are racing on ahead. I also don't like the scenarios -- they are supposed to be dealing with different aspects of the game, but since there aren't all that many different aspects, it really doesn't work out that well. One of the major disappointments about the game was that it did not have a sandbox... Well a fan has already provided that, so there is already a nice addition... But if you expect the board game in 3d save your money. And, speaking of 3D, it is overkill for this game. It is actually hard to manipulate the screen and the 3d effects add virtually nothing to the play.

Summary: My favourite game to date...
Review: I bought this game on the strength of the many reviews I have read. I tend to be skeptical about reviews and figured that this game was being overhyped somewhat. But I am please to say that I couldn't have been more wrong. THIS GAME IS EXCELLENT. If anything this game is pretty underhyped actually.
The graphic engine is awesome, real smooth. The game itself has great depth, allowing you the freedom to experiment with edless different strategies and as such is quite organic. At the heart of the city lies a real economy clearly driven by the people's needs and your ablility to efficiently meet their demands. This balancing act is a game in itself, but trying to outwit computer opponents in the process, makes this game a real satisfying challenge. I have not yet played online but look forward to doing so just as soon as I have mastered some new tactics I'm working on. I plan to give online opponents a real run for their money.

Summary: Fun for about 5 minutes
Review: The game is basically just no fun. You do these scenarios and then the computer gives you more scenarios to choose from. (similiar to RollerCoaster Tycoon, but that game was great) I bought it because I liked Monopoly and SimCity, however the game was not like either one. The buildings all look similiar, so it is not exactly eye catching. Plus, there is no way to play a game against the computer, unless you playing a scenario. There is no way to play the game that can be played over the internet, with the computer. The only reason I gave this game two stars is because of the internet play, which really isn't too bad. Any way, try to play the game first before paying... for one.
