Summary: Mech Commander 2 Review From Vet MC Commander
Review: I have been playing Mechwarrior and Mech Commander games for 5 years now. This game literly tore apart all the other Mech games. If you have a 700mhz computer then this is a great game. Any lower and the game lags and jumps. Plus, if you keep the graphic settings all on then the game does some serious lagging. That is the only bad part I can find. Overall it is the best game I have played (and thats a lot of games).

I have read many reviews were everyone hates low Drop Weight. I have no Problem with low Drop Weight. 450tons = 6 Timber Wolves (Madcats), now who has a problem with 6 Timber Wolves? The average DW limit is 320tons. Any expirienced person knows that 320 is more than enough. I use a mix of usually 1-2 Light Mechs, 1 Medium Mech, 3 Heavy Mechs. It is an able combination and makes drop weight problems low. Also the Slavage Craft helps with inmission reinforcements, there by making a low drop weight a low problem.

Slavage is pleniful thanks to the Slavage Craft. See Enemy Mech, Want Enemy Mech, Take Enemy Mech, Use Enemy-Now-Yours Mech to blow up enemy base. That is how you use the Salvage Craft.

The Solo Campain does go by sorta fast though. I was at the last Mission before I knew it.

It can be jumpy because of the Graphics, then again a small problem easily overlooked by the games play, control, feel, new options and fun. For any New or Veteran Commander, I highly reccomend this game.

Summary: Microsoft Screws The Pooch
Review: I have every Mech Warrior game released and this one is the worst. Its so buggy I can't believe they released it. It conflicts with Via chipsets, one of the major makers of chipsets for motherboards. It doesn't like nVidia video cards, perhaps the largest supplier of chipsets for video cards and it apparently doesn't play well with most sound cards - particularly Vortex based (which leaves out all us Turtle Beach users). The real kicker is it won't even load on many machines as Microsoft put some silly CD Guard on it and the list of CD-ROM's that aren't supported is a mile long. Bill Gates should should be forced to shell out his own hard earned money for a game that won't even load and can't be returned. Pass on this one.

Summary: Gimme my own 'mech!
Review: I never really got into the whole 'Mech thing before. To me, they were just big, giant robots with people inside. But, one night, I was bored, or stuck in another game so I loaded up the demo and I was blown away at how much fun it was.

Even though the demo only contained the first two missions from the game, I played them over and over again. The last time that happened was when I tried the StarCraft demo, like two years after it came out.

I didn't buy the game right away, because it was [$$$] at the time and I didn't know if I would play [$$$] worth of the game, as sometimes, I really like the demo but never finish the full game.

So, eventually, the price came down to [$$$] and I'm playing it now. I have an aged PIII 450Mhz with a Voodoo 3 card of some kind, I forget which, and the game plays pretty well most of the time except when there's a real lot of action, but its never so bad as to be unenjoyable.

When I first got the game, it would give me some error message if I tried to start it with a desktop area greater then 1024X768X16. It claimed it was a limitation of the Voodoo card, but now it just starts and loads right away. I looked for a patch in the beginning, but I do not remember ever downloading and applying one.

I consider myself to be a casual RTS player, more inclined to follow the story then the strategery bits and I like this game. I just started making changes to my 'Mechs, otherwise I would just accept the defaults. Sometimes I find a mission to be very tough but eventually am able to figure out how to beat it. I've looked for an online strategy guide but so far have failed to find one, and I'm kind of glad because it feels better when I beat it without looking up the strategy.

The other night, I lost my first pilot. It was very sad at the time, even though I don't remember her name anymore. She was a light 'mech specialist and was so good at not taking damage, I kept sending her in to try to take over turrets and stuff. Finally, in the last mission of the first part, some blockhead wouldn't leave her alone after I ordered her lead him and his men into an ambush. Some people just got no sense of humor!

Summary: mech commander 2 needs more umpf...
Review: I played this games mission out in a week, about two hours each day...it would have been nice to have more campaigns right out of the box, or provide expansion packs for retail...I stopped assigning light mechs and sensor mechs during game play because it was just easier to play with the assault mechs and capture a sensor capable one and fix it up.

Microsoft has the capital to develope these games better I think, when it comes to providing extended play...maybe starting over again on the same maps with varient missions and toughers AI's would help...I strongly think dounloading the player created missions is the only great aspect of this game because the create missions are from hungry gamers who know what everyone else is looking for in a game and to be able to create new missions is great...my only question is, is it possible to trade up Mech Commander 1 units to MC2?

Summary: SafeDisc Makes Mech Commander Safe-- from the Player!
Review: I would like to be able to write a review for Mech Commander 2, but I am unable to play this game on any computer in my house. It seems that Microsoft has chosen to add a copy-protect program-- "SafeDisc"-- to render the CD-ROM incompatible with every single drive I have. A readme file included with Mech Commander warns the user of this problem, when it is too late.

Unfortunately, Microsoft neither includes a warning on the box, nor posts a list of incompatible drives on the Web-- as of this writing. Those who have not yet purchased Mech Commander 2 should be aware that, among many other drives, the CD-ROM fails with the following: Sony CDU5211, Sony CDU77E, Acer CD-624a, Memorex CD-RW2224, Plextor CD-ROM PX-32TS (SCSI), Sanyo CRD-256P, and the Yamaha 2216E, 4416SX, and CDR6416S-VK. The full list is probably much longer. Microsoft does indicate that the Sony CDU77E should work if it is configured as a master drive, but all of the others listed are right out.

I am personally going to contact Mircosoft about getting a replacement disc. I suspect a patch will not arrive, since this is a hardware issue, and Microsoft obviously will not do anything to override a system they just spent money to install and distribute. It may behoove the reader to write Microsoft for a full list of incompatible drives.

Summary: Didn't even work correctly
Review: I would say I would have possibly enjoyed this video game but the version that I received was defective. I tried to get customer service from microsoft and that was problematic. Nothing on their website was useful and then I was forced to either pay money for support or call long-distance just to receive support with the warranty. Then after I spent time getting an account setup with them they said that there had been a number of defective cd's shipped. Then he said I could either return it or they could send me a copy in 3 plus weeks. Trust me, why buy this game if it may not even work correctly!

Summary: LOVE MECHS!!
Review: I've always been a big fan of the Mechwarrior and Battletech universe, and have played all the games they came out with. I absolutely loved Mechcommander 1, and couldn't wait for the sequal. When it came out, I wasn't dissapointed. MC2 has the same interface as the first one, making learning time short for experienced players. The new player can catch on quickly as well, so there's no problems there. The graphics and sound are supperb, and the missions are interesting. Even the characters you see in cutscenes are fun to watch, making the game interesting to follow. The missions are well done, and require some thought to get through. Many are like puzzles; they can't be won the traditional way, but the tools are there to do it if you can find them. My only complaints are that the campaign is woefully short, and the tonnage limitations are abysmal. You can only carry so many 'mechs into combat, and that means you keep using the same pilots over and over. Not bad in itself, but it means you never really develop enough pilots they way you'd like. Expansion packs would be well appreciated, here.
