Rating: Summary: BORING! Review: My first tycoon game was Zoo Tycoon and it is a complete blast!! So I was hoping for the same with Mall Tycoon. No such luck. I can basically echo the sentiments from other reviews; poor graphics and sound, not much interaction and the tutorial stinks. A few more specifics that I didn't like were; there isn't an undo button which I really appreciate in Zoo Tycoon. And there isn't a goals list when you are playing the scenario scene so you can see what you need to accomplish. I would not reccomend buying this game at all.

Rating: Summary: the best game in the world Review: Mall tycoon is one of the best games I ever played on the face of the planet. It all started on New Year's Eve, 2003. I was at my friend's house and he said, "Let's play mall tycoon." I replied, "O.K." Once we started playing we could not get off it until we were forced to. It was so much fun. From then on, I've been bugging my mom to try to order it off the Internet or go to Toys R Us and go get it.

Rating: Summary: WORST GAME EVER!!!! Review: Seriously folks, save your money and buy something worthwhile. This game is not even worth one star! I have played a lot of games in my life and this is seriously the WORST GAME EVER!!! You are forced to deal with choppy and unclear graphics, poor mouse control, limited control over the game, sloppy and uninteresting game-play which is mostly controlled by the computer. Example: there are vandals in your mall, hire more security guards - well, there are security guards every three feet it seems, but still the vandals are taking over - you have zero control over the characters you put in your mall. The whole idea was great, and I was very excited to buy the game, but what a disappointment - to top it off, I emailed the company right after I bought it to ask if there was some reason that my game was so bad, and I am still awaiting a response. I took it to a second-hand game dealer and he will give me $5 for it, so at least I can salvage that much back from it - unfortunately, the hours I spent trying to play the unplayable game will never be returned to me. DON'T BUY THIS GAME - I repeat, it is not worth a nickle and should be pulled from any store shelves.
Rating: Summary: Mall Tycoon or Unemployed Manager Review: I bought this hoping it would be better than the first and so far I am disappointed. At first, it wasn't compatible with my TNT2 card and it took them nearly 3 months to come out with a patch so I could actually play it and now that I am, I wish I hadn't gotten the patch. The graphics are angular and buggy (go into first person mode and watch your shoppers walk through each other, yay!) There is no tutorial for the game, only sandbox and scenario modes which don't teach you anything except that no matter what you do, you will soon lose all your money and the game will end abruptly. The only way to make money to survive is to boost rent and profit takes from each store, but when you do this, they all go under and leave the mall and you're back to square one. In order to get customers to boost your mall rating, you have to continually research new items (which of course costs lots of money) and still, your mall will fail. It would have been better if they would have included some sort of tutorial mode or hints page, but there are none. Even the online manual does nothing but tell you what all the buttons do. It does not tell you what each employee does or what their signifigance is. In all, this game is not worth the money or the frustration and until some working money cheats become available, its not worth playing.
Rating: Summary: One of the worst Tycoon games by far Review: I am a huge fan of tycoon games and this one is awful! What few controls you have are not 'instinctive' and it's basically just.. boring. You buy a shop, which is pre-made and plop it down on the plot. That's about all there is too it. Plus you can hire a few people (janitors and security I believe) and that's about it. It's boring, the graphics are horrible and its a waste of money. Believe me, I have played just about every single tycoon game out there, you will have a lot more fun with Zoo Tycoon, Rollercoaster Tycoon, SimCity, the Sims.. even Restaurant Empire.
Rating: Summary: Mess Mall Review: The real problem with Mall Tycoon, is the fact that it is not very interactive as far as gaming goes. You purchase store space of different types and then watch your customers go inside them. When you open up a store, in your mall, you will notice that it already has a customer preloaded with the store! Sometimes you will see the same animations in a loop, like a kid jumping on top of a bed mattress or playing with toys in a toy store. you can place maintanance and security guards and all they do is walk around doing their loop animations. You cannot set paths for the workers- they just roam around like fools. You cannot purchase items for the stores, or choose the layout design inside them. Everything is premade and non-interactive=non fun. The music, sound and graphics and animations were very poorly done. Do not buy this game.
Rating: Summary: A low blow to the Tycoon games. Review: I love Tycoon games.Whenever a Tycoon or Sim game came out, I would be quick to pick it up.Alas, I have finally found a game that I can call merely "average." Mall Tycoon can be fun if you are (a. Really young and think everything is great, (b. Really bored, (c. Can't get great games to work on your computer, (d. have amazingly low expectations, or (e. Love management games so dang much that you will blind yourself to the obvious problems with this game. There some 3D graphics but all the people are 2D, making everyone look like paper. Not all the people are people. Some aliens will shop in your mall on rare occasion, which is obviously a cheap attempt at humor. If your mall has too much trash on the floor, aliens invade it and eat your customers brains, causing extreme fustration until your lazy janitors get around to doing something about the trash (or if your customers that are left learn how a trashcan works. Also, why are trashcans in the scenery menu?).There is a tutorial, but it does not help too much. It doesn't even cover mall security, setting rent and paycut for stores, or customer needs. When you don't know about those, the game can get fustrating. Plus, there are 3D people in the stores, but they just keep doing the same thing over and over, never leave, don't affect the mall, and are there when you place the store. Researching things doesn't have too much of an effect and is a useless part of the game.Securirty is important, but shoplifters look like zombies. They have their arms stuck out, and dress in black and white. However, it is still a mangement game and it has its strong spots for people who like management games. Mall Tycoon can be fun, but your money can be better spent.
Rating: Summary: An embarrassment to the other Tycoons Review: My wife and kids have each enjoyed many hours creating their own amusements with both Rollercoaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon, two games whose endless creative interactive possibilities can hold their attention for hours on end without fail. So when I ran across the similar-looking Mall Tycoon, the thought of a similar game with a shopping mall environment sounded right up their alley, inspired by all the engaging mall layouts pictured all over the box.Well, it sounded like a good idea at the time. Mall Tycoon's starting interface -- a big empty lot and a bland panel of cryptic controls for selecting and building walls and floors and such -- did not strike any of us as being remotely intuitive or easy to use. After spending a couple of stubborn hours stumbling about these controls, we were unable to figure out how to accomplish more than throwing up a few random-looking walls with odd paint jobs and a couple of arbitrary stores. How one could go from that clumsy mess to what was pictured on the box seemed unfathomable. If there is a way to do so, it was (1) not remotely obvious, and (2) clearly going to take far more forehead-banging *work* to figure out than any *game* (i.e. fun) should, so... back into the box it went. My kids are still huge fans of the Rollercoaster and Zoo Tycoon games, and still have big hopes for some of the other Tycoon creations. But Mall Tycoon was clearly a waste of our money and time.
