Rating: Summary: A brilliant game in it's time but get Civ III instead Review: In it's time, Civilization 2 was the game that kept me at my PC for longer than any other. It's combination of strategy as you attempt to out think your opponents and tactics as you wage war or the enemy and your land is so well balanced, you can lose hours and hours.Right now, though, we have Civilization 3 and that raised the bar much higher. Still, there are some reasons to look at the older version. If you have a low-end machine it's worth it - and there are still some very active user groups creating very playable scenarios. In it's time this was a five star game - but now it's more of a historical masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: The Civs: the most addictive game series in history Review: I got Civ 2 for Christmas '02. The beauty of these games is that if something goes wrong (for example, you lose a city to barbarians or an enemy civ), you can go back in time (by loading a game) & do things differently. Real life is not like that; you get only one shot. Another amazing thing is that in these games, you can learn astronomy & monotheism, or build King Richard's Crusade & Michelangelo's Chapel before it's even AD 1--advance a LOT faster than real-life civilization did. LOL, I was able to colonize outer space as early as 1918! The downside is that governing worlds & rewriting history can drastically affect a person's real life. I've literally lost sleep playing this game--I'd stay up till 3 even on weeknights! Nothing else I have ever done in my whole life, on or off the computer, has proven so addictive. Enjoy, but be careful!
Rating: Summary: Another great game by the maker of the greatest Review: This game is quite simply on of the greatest computer games you will ever play. Take your civiliation from the late stone age and try to win the race to space. It will not be easy, you must juggle the needs and happiness of your people with military and economic needs, add to that diplomacy and the need to develop science and you have a real trial on your hands. If you have a love of history you will enjoy this game for decades.
Rating: Summary: The best strategy game! Review: I absolutely adore and LOVE this game! Civilization 2 is brilliant! My father doesn't understand how to play this, and he's many years older then me (I'm 15). Actually, a lot of people will agree with him. It took me awhile to get the hang of it, but when I did it was very easy. I love everything about this game - the music, the game itself, the videos, EVERYTHING. I love the High Council videos (especially when you're in arnachy and they're not talking to you), the Wonder videos (Very cool), the Throne room, the meetings with your opponents etc. The only complaint I have is that if you're playing with more then one opponent, the units take forever to move and you end up sitting there waiting. Overall, a well made game with lots of things to do and it will keep you hooked for hours (like I was!)
Rating: Summary: My favorite game when it was released Review: Still worth buying if you can find it. Only surpassed by Civ III. This game actually increased my interest in history and made me set out to learn more about many historical discoveries
Rating: Summary: ... Review: Civ2 was the first strategic game I ever played, and thanks for the game, I 'developed' my strategic thinking for the strategies that followed. It's an amazing game. My question is:could anybody tell me how can I make that the tutorial, the instant messages, the whole game to apear in other languages, like German,Italian or Spanish? I knew guys who played the game in these languages, but in my computer I got as choices only English and French. Anything you can tell about this can help me. Thanks for all of you.
Rating: Summary: The Classic Strategy Game Review: Although graphics are worse than in Civ3, gameplay is far better. That said, all I can do is testify the things you can read in the other posts. If you have an older PC, you're better off with Civ2 ...
Rating: Summary: Mac version reviewed Review: I really like Civilization II for my Mac. The changes from the first version of the game are wonderful and I'm happy that you can chose not to watch the "wonders" videos all the time. I also like the various levels of difficulty and the fact that I can make up a nation/race -- I often do Amazons then use "names of Amazon cities" from Classical references. However, a big problem is the "tutor" and "instant advice" that I cannot turn off. I think I should be able to reset the game options better than it allows because I find these pop-ups to be very annoying.
Rating: Summary: Better than Civ3 Review: Yes!! Civilization 3 is an incredible game. I rate this game for anyonoe who loves empire-building, conquest, and strategy. I am not surprised that civ2 got a much higher rating then civ3. This game is much faster than civilization 3 since, the most of the graphics are 2D. There are actually scenarios that you can play and I also have multiplayer gold edition which is awesome since you can save in the middle of your multiplayer. TWO THUMBS UP!!!!
