Summary: Sound effects are great!
Review: I've only started playing this game, but I immediately noticed the awesome sounds. Each weapon has it's own unique sound, with big blasts reverberating for several seconds. If you have good speakers with a subwoofer, you'll be amazed. The overhead view of the action helps to keep the player on top of things, however the graphics are rather small and it is sometimes hard to see damaged areas. I am not well-read on WWII tank strategies, but I have heard other people questioning the AI of the game. It seemed fine to me as a casual gamer. It is easy to learn the controls but very difficult in terms of strategy. Out of about 4 15-minute missions I've attempted so far on easy level, I've only won one and that was by a slight margin. Speaking of which the manual is very well written. It goes into tank strategies as well as a 5 page history of the Battle of the Bulge. Overall, it's a fun game with great sound effects. Also, my computer is a PII300 with 128MB of ram and a TNT2 graphics card and it runs fine.

Summary: Awesome Game
Review: If you've never played any of the games in the Close Combat series, you're missing out! The games are the most realistic stratigical recreation of WW2 battles. CC4 is the newest in the series and is centered around the Battle of the Bulge. In the game, you are in charge of a small set of teams (usually about 12) of solders. Each team has its own weapons and/or equipment. There are all kinds of weapons in the game but all are true-to-life and historically accurate. There is also the possibility to call in artillary birages and air strikes sometimes. All in all, the game is awesome and I highly recomend it. You can also play it online. And over LANs and modems. Buy the game if you like history, WW2, stratigy, or all of the above. If you don't, it's still a great game.

Summary: I LIKE CC4
Review: Look, if you are looking for historcial accuracy, then i would go with 4. 3 is good and all, but it doesent present me with the historical aspect that i need, also the moral factor adds a need "realsim" factor to it. In three, you lost if all your dudes died, or if you fled. in 4 it relys on your forces moral which goes up depending how you fare in battle, and other factors. Yes, four does have its flaws, it is in fact a very different game than three, so i find it hard to compare the two and have it still be a "fair" comparison. If you are wondering whether to buy 4 or not, and you liked three, then i say do it, it really is a good game

Summary: A good development
Review: My first exposure to the Close Combat series was the third title, The Russian Front. Simply put it is a superb game, with the ability the draw you back time and time again after newer games have lost their appeal. This new title also has this ability. I must admit it took a while to get used to the new format and the AI seems to have taken a backward step from cc3, but overall it is an excellent game. I am a former soldier and for my money the series are the only current games that give any credence to reality on the battlefield. It is with a wry humour sometimes when I watch the units attempt to move to a position on the map in a very roundabout manner (particuly the tanks), but nothing beats the confusion of the real thing! If you are after a historically accurate game, with immense returnability, this is a game for you.

Summary: Simply Put . . .
Review: Simply put, this is the best Close Combat game from the series of four. There is no other way of describing or summarizing the game's overall appeal. If still not convinced, download the demo and enjoy the in-depth scope of military history from your desktop. Afterwards, you will feel compelled to engross yourself in the full version - it is that addictive. Simply put, Close Combat: The Battle of the Bulge is the best wargame for all ages on the market today.

Summary: Okay but
Review: The best Close Combat game was Close Combat 2. A good balance between the forces beautifull graphics and the game illustrated the Arnem campaign.

Close Combat 3 was a big dissapointment. The only units which mattered were tanks.

Close Combat 4 is better than 3 and infantry units again are something more than cannon fodder. The negatives of the game are that the graphics are not as good as the previous two in the series. The game also crashes a lot.

As has been mentioned Tiger tanks never seem to appear.Instead the German player has thousands of armounred cars and small vehicles whose only function seems to be to blow up in a spectacular and regular way. The game also goes on forever. To compleat a long campaign takes over a week.

The A 1 is also somewaht unispired. The tanks controlled by the computer just mill around in an aimless way only firing at soft targets. Still sort of allright and streets aread of the last issue.

Summary: A Good Game for War Strategy Fans
Review: The Close Combat series is a very effective tactical battlefield game. You command units to achieve your objectives. I could not get enough of the Bridge Too Far game (and still occassionally fire it up after three years of playing). Needless to say I was thrilled to hear about CC4. As prior reviewers noted, it is not up to par with CC3 but I still found it challenging and fun. I am sorry MS rights to the game to SSI. While SSI has a good pedigree for creating wargames, this time they seemed to spend as little as possible on the game. The box was cool, but the instruction book was poorly done and more reminiscent of cheap instructions from the Far East. I don't think they were too careful with the AI programming as well. Despite these concerns, I really enjoy playing the game and it still is head and shoulders better than most games out there today.

Summary: Awesome simulation, but it lacks the depth that CC2 had.
Review: This game has it all plus more compared to all the other but Close Combat II. The combat system in CC4 is beyond all the others, especially the intelligence of infantry tank killers. The addition of artillary and air strikes is nice, but it is more of an optional plus than a real helper during gamepley. Tanks could still use more brains, and for some reason individuality was so cool in CCI and CC2 is almost gone completely. I remember the days when I would try not only to win, but also get one of my guys a CMOH or silver star. But thats almost impossible now. Another thing is that snipers were so effective in CC2, but worthless in CC4 unless used in an open area, whereupon they get blasted after hitting their first target. Otherwise, small complaints aside, I cannot stop playing CC4. That should say enough.

Summary: Incredible Sim Game With Minor Bugs.
Review: This game is highly detailed in its use of historical accuracy and details of battle. An excellent sim game, the program is dangerously addictive to anyone who enjoys a strategy game, particularly those with even a moderate interest in WWII. For those who've never heard of this series, it's centered around commanding troops of armor and infantry to conquer enemies by total destruction and/or capture of territory. Many aspects of war are included: line of fire, suppression, flanking, fatigue, elevation and more are well contrived and integral aspects of the game. This incantation of the series focuses on the Battle Of the Bulge and places heavy emphasis on historical aspects of the event.

The game is generally geared towards German strength. The American teams rarely outdo the German teams and therefore, playing the German side usually results in complete carnage for the Americans. The AI is not particularly crafty, and often times chimpanzee-like strategies will result in an easy win. Sometimes though chimpanzee strategies will result in you looking like you are indeed a chimpanzee.

The bugs are well-reported in other posts. Among some not seen by me are the fact that although your rocket halftrack packs about 80 rounds, it stops firing at 66 rounds. Also, the electronic registration is geared towards modem usage and repeatedly failed registration over a cable modem. The downloadable patch for this game (at the time of the writing) is difficult to get and I still have not been able to find any reliable source, including the manufacturer's site.

Despite it's minor shortcomings, this game is where war sim games all should be. You'll kick yourself for not getting this game sooner.

Summary: 10 STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: This game rocks! Although I did not purchase this game at amazon, I thought i should add my 2 cents. I was disapointed to see what other people thought of this game.I currently own all of the close Combat games and, as i expected, this was going to be a great game.

to start.the game has lots of ways to make the game easy or difficult. there are individulal battles you can play, opperations(two or three battles), and campaigns. you can also creat "what if" senarios. and play on either the axis powers or the allies.

This game also gives infantry more of a fighting chance to take out tanks(if you've ever played any of the others).

whats there to say.this game rocks!!!!!!!!
