Summary: Good game, STEEP learning curve
Review: I bought this at Wal-Mart, as some other people did too, apperantly. It installed just fine and runs great (but then again, I have a brand-new PC, so it should...) I enjoy that you can't just build, build, build without having to watch your money. Telling some airlines to get lost is a plus too. The graphics are pretty good for a fifteen dollar game. I've read other reviews saying to get the Sims or Rollercoaster Tycoon instead. Keep in mind those other games are thirty plus dollars each.

I do have a few complaints, though. Why do they limit you to four stinking runways? My local, municipal airport (the town has a population of 98,000) has more than that! Why do shops whose contracts you've regected REPEATEDLY continue to apply? Why is the tutorial so bad? If you still don't like this game and want another bargain-basement "Tycoon," I highly recommend Railroad Tycoon II- Gold Edidtion.

Summary: Good Game Consept, Bad Features
Review: When I first played Airport Tycoon, I was very excited, thinking that it would be a game with great graphics, millions of features, and more and it would be easy to use. Well was I wrong or what? Airport Tycoon isn't anything like what I thought, only the opposite. Okay, not exactly the opposite, but not what I exactly expected. The graphics do look they are a little behind, and the sound is really terrible. Gameplay is boring. I mean, really, I am a fan of planes/airports, and after an hour of the game, you don't want to play anymore. And, when you run out of money when you aren't ready to open your airport, it's over. It's also hard to use. I spent at least 1 hour trying to open my runway by placing the fire station. I didn't see anything about that in the manual...And I spent an hour waiting for the Zimbawe airplane to land after our "contract signing." There is a good place, in front of your computer to sit for 2 hours. It is fun (for a while), and the graphics aren't the best, but acceptable, so it's not that bad. But if you aren't really good with computers/computer games, I truely don't reccomend the game. And if you like airport builiding, or anything plane related, I reccomend it, but you'll probably get bored of the game shortly after you buy it.

Summary: ABSOLUTELY ADDICTIVE!!!!
Review: I love this game so much. You get to manage your own airport in over 100 capitals all around the world. There are also 200 airlines... I've been playing this game for years and I've only come across a little over 100!! It's such an addictive game and you'll love every minute of managing, watching and just enjoying your own airport.

Summary: An Interesting Program whose main strength is its graphics
Review: I've always wanted to play a simulator for airport management, so was very excited to see this game come out. However, the learning curve was huge. The manual only gives information on the interface and not the actual "rules" of the game. The user must figure it out for themselves and the poor tutorial is of little assistance (it never shows the completion of even a modest airport with the offer of a flight contract - in fact the tutorial runs out of money before it can finish). So the real treat of the game is the 3-d graphics uncommon to most sims. You can really get inside your creation from one of several stunning camera angles. The interface and usability are mainly where the program suffers. Although as a whole a fun and involving simulation, some common tasks (like rejecting business contracts for business types you already have in your airport or dedicating check-in desks to a particular airline contract) must be performed repeatedly and arduously. The patch that is available, by the way, is for the British version of the game, called Airport Inc., but works on Airport Tycoon. In short, if you are a simulator fan and find the airport business model intriguing, you may be able to overlook some flaws. It is only $20 bucks, after all. Otherwise, the whole procedure may be too frustrating.

Summary: O.K.
Review: When I bought the game I was thinking that you would have more control over the airlines and a few other things. Play can be annoying at times because of the pager thing that pops up.

Summary: Major Limitations
Review: A bad execution of a good idea. This game has some major limitations:

You are limited to four runways, and if you want to upgrade to a longer runway, you have to clear all the old flight contracts off the old runway. This sounds easy, but you can only change/refuse contracts at their annual renewal. Thus, you have to go through a year of game time refusing all new contracts for the old runway and moving or cancelling the old contracts. TEDIOUS!

You eventually run up against a cap on the number of objects in the game. You also run up against a cap on the number of airline/flight/retail contracts in the game.

Construction is basically dumping the correct items in the correct areas. Layout doesn't matter (i.e. the game doesn't care if the fronts of two check-in counters are sandwiched together so no one can get to them). Many items don't seem to do anything anyway.

So why two stars instead of one?

The game was somewhat fun in the early stages of airport development. But I wanted to grow my airport into world-class status (e.g. JFK, O'Hare, or Heathrow). You just can't do that in Airport Tycoon. But without the goal of seeing how big you can make your airport, the game loses a lot.

Summary: you gotta have RAM
Review: Managing an airport is cool and this game is a blast. The one negative is the 1000 item max imposed in the current version. This requires you to lay roads in the longest strips possible and to watch items you should be able to add. Eventually, you will have millions of dollars and no way to spend them...I major draw back.

But, getting the airport up and running and competing with other airports throughout the world is a blast.

Summary: Buy at your own risk!
Review: A very good idea for a game. There's a lot of room for improvement, different ways to play the game, etc. Nothing will ever be the same. Unfortunately, it's very predictable. It's quite capitalistic-like, but too extreme. The game starts off by giving you NO business so you're in the red. This can be overcome by little initial spending. Soon after this turn for the worse - business is booming! Contracts coming from all over the place. THEN...you experience a drought that is impossible to overcome with NO explanation. This has happened to me multiple times with no remedy.

Summary: Fun But I've Played Better
Review: I got this game for, like many others, the ability to create my own Airport. It took me a few trys to get a successful airport but after that its clear sailing if you do it right. This game is good but i woul recomend Roller Coaster Tycoon over this.
