Summary: Finally.....a strategy game that's fun to play
Review: I'll admit right from the start that I'm partial to virtually all things Roman and was looking forward to this game coming out for quite a while. I was getting tired of traditional 'Real Time Simulations' as I find micro-managing to be a bit boring. That being said, Legion is a great deal of fun to play.

Legion has some great merits to it:
1) a short, easy to understand rule book and tutorial. There's nothing as frustrating as getting a new computer game only to have to wade through hundreds of pages of details before you can play it with any hope of success.
2) system requirements are so low that virtually any PC will be able to play it. It's nice not to have to upgrade your entire system just to play a new game.
3) There's a nice mix of game styles here. Enough 'RTS' to feel that you can actually incluence the course of your empire without making you feel like your a mid level paper pusher obsessing over insignificant details. At the same time there's enough tactical play to keep the game interesting overall.
4) Replayability of this game is high. In each campaign there are up to 20 competing nations and you have the ability to play every one.
5) The battlefield graphics. Some 'professional' reviewers are remarking that the graphics in Legion leave something to be desired. I, however, like them. The attention to detail on the battlefields is amazing and a great deal of fun to watch. Yes, the game may not have the latest in 3D technology but it really isn't needed here.

In short, Legion is a fun, solid game in a market that has lacked a good ancient world strategy game.

Review: I'm so used to having to take forever to learn the nuances of complicated strategy/war games. So, I was kinda like, "Huh? That's it?", when I started playing Legion. Yes, you have food, wood, and stone like most games, but you really don't manage them very much. Is that good or bad? I dunno, really.
Basically, all of the city managing stuff is done by the computer and you, the player, do the fighting. All of the few city managing decisions that you do make need to be focused on the primary importance of your army. This, I suppose, is pretty historically accurate. The MOST important thing is war.
The battles are laid out like this: You choose the city or army you want to fight. You then lay out in formation the positioning of your squads. Then choose your attacking advancement and hit 'GO!'. Then you just watch and hold your breath. It can get pretty nerving watching your armies advance. But, it's all over in a minute or so.
Pretty good game, but not enough in depth management for sim freaks like me.

Summary: Flawed game by with a few pluses
Review: Legion is a flawed game, but it is old and you can buy a copy for $7. The city growth is oddly limited, so no city can build every type of building offered. Why is this? I could not tell you. The Real Rome had every type of building the Romans could build; and all Roman cities were just a copy of Rome. It is worth $7, not $8, but $7 is a good price for this game. Wyatt Kaldenebrg

Summary: Friends, Romans, Gamers...
Review: Legion is a real-time/turn-based hybrid strategy game. The turn-based mode is where you play strategically: choosing areas to invade, deciding on what buildings to construct (buildings increase resources and allow recruiting and training of military units), you know "the big picture stuff."

The real-time mode begins when you invade (or are invaded) and confront enemy military. You have the ability to deploy your legionaries, archers, cavalry, etc. and give them their battleplans but once combat begins, the battle is on automatic pilot. So you would be Julius Caesars are out-of-luck if you were hoping to display your tactical prowess.

There is no skirmish mode, so you'd better like the 4 campaigns. You can play the campaigns from different nations/tribes but the non-Romans are different in name only.

The graphics are ordinary at best, the battle graphics disappointed me because of the small, out-dated blobby units.

The game left me unsatisfied since I could not command a legion in battle and there are no historical generals (like Julius Caesar)to lead my armies. The turn-based mode was very generic and limited to only about a dozen building types.

Summary: Good, but not Superb strategy game
Review: Legion is just another good game of strategy.
Your goal is to expand your empire (whether you play with the Romans or not) at the expense of your neighbors.
The game is really easy to play if you're acquainted to strategy games (such as Civilization) and not that hard if you're not.
Like all strategy games you have to manage your resources wisely (wheat, iron, lumber) and deal carefully with the other tribes.
The biggest con I've found so far is the impossibility of selecting difficulty levels (this has been solved in the 1.06 patch). There are other minor flaws as well, such as management of cities only (no province management?!? what about all those roads that lead to Rome? who's gonna build and look after them?).
In few words the strategy looks like: "build a powerful army and garrison it inside a city with a medium/large fort and a quartermaster built in it and nobody's gonna take it away from you (unless the AI arrives with 4 huge armies)"
The overall is a fun addictive game who could get you stuck to the PC for hours...

Review: Legion Stuff...........

Feature List, Enhancements, and Questions?

Enhancement for future could include an ability to Paint models.

Enhancement Editor scenario/campaign/unit or just like you said do free downloads from the web for support. Nice value adds.

I like the New graphics engine sprites skinny.... looks better than fat..... Nice amount of blood and gore and some body parts. Remember this was a very violent time. Future chance of some fire smoke fog or dust?

I like to pan the field after the battle and look at the carnage and destruction. You start to feel for the sprite.

What will be the resolution?
800/600 16bit.... Graphics look good....

Nice 3d/2d/isometric style with no need to rotate.
I like the idea of commanding and then watching.
Legion may use some imited ability in the battle to do things.

Nice scope and feel to Legion.

I can see by playing this game the vision and passion that whent into the product.Great job.

Nice scale. Just let machines with power be able to scale.

Style,style,style Legion has style.

Legion has a simplicity and elegance to it with complex underlines. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.

Just a little more gore and blood and destruction on
the field of battle.

Being able to play any side will be great....20 plus wow....

Let some of the files be tweak able files for the di hard net kids.

Increase the volume and number of battle sounds and scale to power if able to.

First time in history I liked the music.

Immersion,immersion,immersion Legion has immersion.

I love the 4 scenario structure and the large to massive maps. Great idea to have random battle locations.

Difficulty levels 1-5?

I like the idea of creating a single player game with great AI. This is hard to do and shows your teams talent.

Multi play could work in a legion battle game only.

No multiplayer good. Do this later.

Nice manual and web support.

Quality,quality,quality Legion has quality

Just a little more varied sound and music?

I love the opening cut scene.

Possible open source in the future? Look what happened with Doom and Quake.

Nice marketing and hype.

Legion is a very good game so go out and buy it.

Think Legion II , Legion Books, Legion Calendars,
Legion Posters, Legion Toys, Legion Board game, Legion Movie. Think Big Dreams. Think Legion.

No one has done a Roman game the correct way and Legion is a gem.

Enough, now back to Legion.

I love this game.

Summary: Reviewing Legion
Review: Nothing new here for folks that ever played Centurion of Rome. The graphics are better, and the campaigns more in depth. Command and control of armies is limited at best, which is supposed to more realistic. Had this gone farther and included some later scenarios this would be worth the price. Buffs of ancient Rome will enjoy this probably, but consider carefully before commiting your computer gaming dollars.

Summary: Uncomplicated Fun
Review: One of my sentimental favorite strategy games is Lords of the Realm 2. Raise crops, build castles and armories, requistion armies, pay taxes, and annihilate the the baron in the next county. Like LOTR2, Legion is uncomplicated--and fun. UNLIKE Civ3, which is just way too much work and hassle (and too comlicated and time-consuming, but that's a different review), I have yet to tire of Legion. I enjoy Roman civilization, and have found Legion to be an accurate, interesting turn-based strategy game. You build armies, fight other tribes and nations and balance your economy. The troop types are very accurate (archers, Velite javelinmen, Celtic warhosts, German mercenaries, legions, praetorians, gladiators, etc.) and the opponents historically realistic. Legion doesn't have lots of layers (like Civ3 or AOK), but the layers it does have are a lot of fun. (Reading recommendation: check out Colleen McCullough's fiction series called "Masters of Rome." The first book is called 'The First Man in Rome.')

Review: Poorly made. Much better strategy games out on the market. A let down after playing Europa II and Medieval Total War

Summary: Buy this Game!
Review: Reviewer "dantalian" said it all: The game is playable, replayable, graphically well done, and, most importantly, FUN! Out of the box the thing ran without a burp. The manual is actually useful (unlike so many other new games) and provides a tantalyzing tutorial that will make you want to dive into this game full time.

Buy this game. It's all about power...you know you love it!
