Rating: Summary: Of Mice and Men Review: If you are used to getting all the units you want in order to win your missions rushing through enemy ines, stay away from this game. if you are used to self-moving, out-of-scale war machines, stay away. if you are used to not think about tactics, stay away from this game. if you are used to win easily and without effort, you are either very good, or just stay away from this game.if none of the above refers to you, buy the game, get trained in singleplayer, and play this game online. no other game i have ever played beats this game in multiplayer. giant maps, with up to 12 players, hundreds of units you can manage individually or in groups, sophisticated tactical possibilities, and real-time-battle. my alltime favourite, really. and the best of all: rushers and campers never win against good tactics. but thats probably why most of us-americans do not like this game. it's maybe a little bit too complex for fast-food-minds. see you all on th battlefield. Rating: Summary: Best RTS ever made Review: Let's face it, Starcraft was slow, dated graphics, only about 30 units to choose from, and could only be capable of handling a few hundred units at one time. Max. Red Alert was horribly unreal, and quickly boring. Sudden Strike is THE RTS. Three different sides: Nazis, Soviets, or Allies. Each has their own great units. Some special units include: Allies: Jeeps, Churchill Tanks, Tiger tanks, etc Nazis: Sturmtiger's, Panzer tanks, Panzerfausts (German rocket launchers) Soviets: Katyusha mobile rocket launcher platforms. Best assault unit in the game. Other units include: over a dozen types of tanks on each side, flamethrowers, officers, marksmen, snipers, maching gunners, howitzers, engineers, demolition teams, sub maching gunners, rocket launchers, armored transports, bombers, AA guns, Anti tank guns, supply trucks, ambulances, etc. Units have individual ammo, which has to be reloaded with either ammo crates dropped off by planes or supply trucks. Supply trucks carry engineers which build pontoon bridges, stock ammo, and repair vehicles. Ambulances heal soldiers. This game focuses on ultimate realism. If a soldier is badly wounded, he will slowly die. Bodies stay there, they don't disappear, same with craters and scorch marks. Units talk in their own languages, which may be English, French, German or Russian. Everything on the map is destructible. Buildings, blinds, bunkers, towers, can all be entered. Air strikes can be ordered. There is a 10 mission campaign for each side, plus over two dozen single missions. Downsides: No random map or map editor, but the greatness and addictiveness of this game brilliantly pays off. This game won't leave my hard drive for a long time. Forget Red Alert 2.
Rating: Summary: This is not the WWII version of AOE II! Review: No building up your civilization and no way to get new soldiers once they are killed. Not even close to the level of AOE II.
Rating: Summary: Nice graphic but not a good game Review: Only word I can say is this game has the nice graphic but the rolling screen hurting my eyes. pretty hard to win the game..I don't have any fun playing this game.
Rating: Summary: Don't believe the hype Review: Some people sing this game's praises, but the fact is that poor pathfinding, an utter lack of realism (infantry squads can destroy entire tank columns, B-17s fly close air support,...), and brain-dead AI make this game an exercise in frustration for most game players. Players new to gaming might enjoy the game's graphics and large number of available units, but the game's weaknesses will soon wear on them as well.
Rating: Summary: "Excellent." Review: Sudden Strike is a fun and realistic game. It might be hard for a lot of you, but it's still fun. A bit of advise about this game--even though I gave this 5 stars, don't let this be your first stategy game. You need experience in stategy games. A good first one is Red Alert 2. I'm NOT saying don't buy this, because this is realy a "Excellent" game.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good, but not quite great Review: SUDDEN STRIKE is not the best WWII tactical RTS game, that is certain. The game obviously attempts to model itself more as a Command and Conquer or Total Annihilation than an SSI turn-based or Close Combat style of game. As such, the fighting can be complex and overwhelming, with lots and lots of units involved. Individual units ARE difficult to discern in the wonderfully crowded landscape, and a firm command of the grouping controls (plus liberal use of the PAUSE command) is necessary. Unit pathfinding is not nearly so bad as some have said, and a waypoint facility IS provided, although some reviewers have said otherwise (something that makes me question these negative reviews - did you read the manual?). The primary difficulty lies in timing coordinated attacks with vast numbers of units spread over a rather large map. Units will generally get to where you tell them to go quite easily - the difficulty lies in getting them to take proper cover when they get there. The command interface is not awful, but the units' response to these commands can seem questionable. Movement is good, but COVER often appears to do nothing as units stand in the open and take casualties. In addition, the system often brings in reinforcements that operate on their own apparently standing orders, moving blindly into firefights if not told to do otherwise. As such, handling this interface can quickly become an exercise in mouse clicking. The game LOOKS outstanding. Everything can be destroyed - even trees. B17 raids are stupendous. The sound...well, it's there, and it's sometimes repetitive and annoying. If you want a good WWII RTS game and you like frantic action, this is the game for you. If you want a more controlled, thinking-man's game in the same genre, get Close Combat III and IV.
Rating: Summary: Pretty, but no brains. Review: The Amazon review of this game is accurate. You may get a cast of hundreds in this game, but the gameplay is simple and routine. If you're looking for a game with large numbers of combatants, try Shogun: Total War. For WW II, the Close Combat series (especially CC III) remains the best tactical game out there.
Rating: Summary: It's a frustratingly mixed bag. Review: This game is both good and bad, so although it is frustrating you will find yourself coming back to it more than once. To its credit the game gives you a mass of units and unit types making it enticing to WWII buffs. Everything on the map explodes nicely and for the most part the sounds are above average (except for the previously mentioned ambulance drivers). But the overall game plan leaves a lot to be desired. As stated before the units have no AI whatsoever. The units are not true to life in either speed, range or firepower. Mortars can decimate everything including tanks, and AT guns can't fire 10' in front of them. But the single most annoying factor is that your units are literally blind. No one can see anything except the officers, and the computer is really good about hanging just back into the fog of war and blowing them all to hell. In fact, the computer can blow just about anything you have to hell without you ever seeing half the units. Strategy is out the window and a blind rush only works if you don't get surrouned. Save your money and buy it used - cheap.
