Summary: Difficult, but has its perks
Review: ---If this game had an expansion in which you could build structures and train units, this game would be the bomb.---

However thats not going to happen. I appreciate the reality of it being that, in war, you have a certain amount of men to accomplish something with and thats it. However in this game, it makes it way too difficult.

I found the graphics to be over the top and the maps truely realistic. The units were detailed nicely. Thumbs up to the artists. Thumbs DOWN to whoever combined the fog of war to initial enemy placement and their AI. Hell, even on easy and the first mission map, my guys were getting wiped out no matter which direction I wanted to send them. I would send a few tanks into the fog of war, so I could start getting a better view of the map. Instead of gaining intelligence on enemy placement, I start getting shot out of view and having grenades and missles obliterate the tanks in a mere 2 seconds. I cant counter attack, because the fog of war doesnt disappear when Im being attacked. This was a HUGE frustrator. No matter how fast I would try to mobilize my troops and get a plan going, I was being invaded by the enemy and blown to bits in a matter of minutes. Im not a cheater at heart, but I think I will retry this game with the cheat that lifts the fog of war, just so I can accomplish some of the missions. This by far was not my first RTS game. I am quite excellent at C&C 1 and 2, etc.

Maybe if they toned down enemy firepower or at least lifted the fog of war when your being attacked, or give you triple visibility when revealing new areas, the game could be more tolerable. But, for the simple fact that difficulty and fog of war impede gameplay, this game gets 2 stars instead of its well deserving 5 for graphics alone.

I would suggest the new title Real War over this one.

Summary: This is a really top notch game
Review: All the negetive reviews talk about how you just win this game with tank and infantry rushes. Try it. You loose every time. I'm sure that's why those guys gave negetive reviews. This game takes some real thought to win. At first I thought there was no way to win except by turning on the cheat codes. Then, after playing the exercise games, I came to see that you have to really deploy and use your forces just as a real life tactical commander would in order to win. Each scenario is rich with diverse situations to overcome. Just like in real life, there is no one solution to any scenario. There are many ways to win - or loose. All in all, a game you can play for many fun hours. Very addictive.

Summary: Very Addictive and Fun
Review: BOTTEM LINE: One of the best war/strategy games of the year. LIKES: Graphics are great. There are a number and diverity of units, each has a different health and strength. This game is not one were you just rush your opponent, try it and you loose every time. There is stratagy and a kind of cat and mouse direction to winning. You have to use your officers and snipers to get extended battlefield views, but your riflemen to knock out what you see. Hit and fall back. Playablility is very easy but realistic. DISLIKES: My three biggest dislikes are 1. When directing units from one point to another they don't travel the way you would go, they wonder onto the battlefield. (The game does have a way point set and pause while commanding function, to make your units go very specified directions but for each unit is time consuming). 2. It would be nice to have a campaign game similuar to Close Combat 3 or 4 where you can either purchase core units and take them through out the game or at least choose your own units from a list of units. 3. I wish someone would make a campaign game with direction, if you win you advance, lose and fall back, not just a compilation of senerios as with this game. FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a game for network play. I can't say enough about how this game plays via network. The tactics and stratagy with a human on the other side makes this game really great. Overall I would highly recommend this game.

Summary: I don't know what all the fuss is?
Review: Every one of the critics reviewed this game as OK, and I don't see why. I like it a lot! I'm a big fan of games like Commandos, Warcraft, Roller Coaster Tycoon, etc. And I definitely think Sudden Strike fits with those. You really have to think about strategy when attacking enemies. You can't just send all your men and steam roll 'em! You have to use some flanking tactics and sneaking up to win. And RECON, RECON, RECON! Also, taking the time to train your men really pays off. The only thing I found odd was that a tank couldn't run over a soldier. They have to shoot them to kill them. Also, I would like to be able to zoom in to see my troops and tanks better. Other than that, I think anyone who likes an addictive "high-clicking" game will love this. But beware, it is a "Time Sucker!"

Summary: Real Game for real generals
Review: Good game for most people love war game especially in WWII. Only one thing can be improved is the Panzer/Tank seens to be too weak at tall. Anti-tank Pak becomes the main role in this game. But for any people who like Air-force, sorry, there is no space to explain, Heers only. On strategy level, this game demands you alot, always think before act. Otherwise, you'll have a BBQ of your troops. In addition, it's a real situation for General like you, cos no production cost or worries on resources. All u need to know is how to use your troops to win. I left only 3 soldiers but still completed the mission. See how cool is it!

Summary: OK for Beginners -- very anti-German
Review: I got this game for a Christmas gift. I thought it would be a nice addition to all my Panzer General, etc. type games: WRONG. The game is pretty unique with its real-time movement and the confusion of all those units moving and firing, but the game is very unrealistic and prejudiced against the German forces. Imagine fighting the Blitzkrieg in the early 1940's with no artillery (you have to steal the enemy's guns) and no Stuka bombers (one of the mainstays of the Blitzkrieg)! I was sorely disappointed because I prefer the German side in these games because of the lack of resources, but their dependency on initiave and ingenuity. If you prefer only the Allies and you want to win big every time over an easy, severely handicapped Axis opponent, especially as the Russians (note the heavy influence of Russian names listed in the credits in the back of the book), then you will LOVE this game.

Since I already have the first game I will try the SS Forever in hopes that it will be more realistic! But, in my opinion, this game is only for beginners and those unfamiliar with the actual WWII struggle.

Summary: THIS GAME ROCKS!
Review: I have my own rule when it comes to buying new games. Never buy the game without playing the demo first. I violated that rule on this one and boy, do I regret it.

If you have never played a strategy game before, or perhaps if you have not played anything since the first SimCity came out, this will seem like it's great. But. . . after Starcraft, Age of Empires, and Empire Earth, this is downright pedantic. The graphics are adequate, the AI is terrible, the gameplay is awkward, words are misspelled, navigating the menus is a pain, and the instruction manual is barely enough to get started.

If you want to play a good strategy game, get Empire Earth and set it to WWII if that is what you are desperate to play. If you want to play a realistic wargame, get Operational Art of War. If you want to find out how many half-truths can be written on the side of a software box, get this one.

I recommend you don't.

Review: I have not played many WW2 games, but I can tell this is one of the best. It's pretty hard without codes but even when you are invincible it's real fun. Very good graphics.
