Summary: Fun Game, but RIDDLED with technical (and other) problems
Review: The game designers did a good job creating a fun game, but a HUGE number of technical issues make this game overly fustrating.
My BIGGEST gripe is the copy protection. In a BRILLIANT move that transfers the burden of piracy from the software company to the end user, EA uses a network key in addition to needing the original CD. I can't tell you how infuriating it is to try to jump into a game only to be kicked off by the message "CD KEY IN USE". Some pirate out there gets to play while I, who paid for the game, suffer the consequences. Brilliant EA- just simply brilliant.
BF1942 (currently version 1.31) is full of bugs. It will play for about 5 minutes and crash on me two or three times, with no error message, before I can get through a whole game. One of the included maps crashes on me constantly- I have never been able to complete it. EA tech support is not much help either. They suggest running BF1942 from a clean boot without running anything else before. This does help. If I run another game, McAfee, Outlook, or Internet Explorer, before BF1942, BF1942 will crash constantly until I reboot.
The menu system is horrid. The server browser has very little filtering, no favorites, and is locked to 640x480. Some of the in-game player-player options are even worse. If you want to add a player to your buddy list, you have to open a text console, type game.listPlayers, scroll to find the player ID number that matches your friend's name, then type game.addPlayerToBuddyList #. Then, the the server loads a new map, you have to do the whole thing over again. The voting interface is the same way.
When everything is working perfectly, it is a fun game, but you'll need a beefy CPU, GF4 or newer gfx card, broadband, and find a server with pleanty of bandwidth (It's fairly common to see players jumping around from lag). BF is definately a resource hog.

Summary: Varies between incredible and maddening
Review: I once heard that the thing about atomic blasts is that if you can see the explosion its probably too late, youre dead. I find that that saying is kinda like this game, if you see other people its probably too late, youre dead.

Now I have played many a fps multiplayer game, from Quake to MOHAA, but this game is different. You can have enormous fun in this game if you are lucky, and it is that luck which really weighs heavy in this game.

To sum up the whole multiplayer experience, basically you run really far to die really quickly. Youll spawn in the middle of nowhere and have to run for ten miles to get to the battle to die from some shot out of nowhere in a heartbeat. Only to repeat the process.

Never in a game has the phrase "THAT WAS UTTER BS" been said so many times. So while you may get to do something totally fun, the other 80% of the time youre running for safety just to get shot along the way.

If they could make MOHAA in this format (larger maps and vehicles) then that would be great. Until then Ill just deal with this games funky physics and funky gameplay... that 20% is so addictive it almost makes it all seem worth while. Oh boy I cant wait to spawn into a shooting gallery again!

Summary: Great game
Review: I love this game the maps are large and very openended. AI is good and controls are easy to learn.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fast open ended action
Review: An extremely fun pick me up game for a quick action fix. Has very open ended gameplay. Not for the type who like realism or team play though. This is a very clan oriented game.

Pros:
Open ended
team play
Use of vehicles and different classes for foot soldier
Desert Combat Mod (quickly becoming the next Counter-Strike)

Cons:
Not realistic just an action game
buggy sometimes
Need a fairly powerful Computer
Single Player is just sad

Summary: Cool Game!!!!
Review: This game is cool!!! It has great graphics, realistic battles, neat vehicles, and more. This is a WWII game, you acting as a soldier in the Japanese, American, Russian, German, or British army. You have a choice of being 1 of 5 types of soldiers: medic, assualt, engineer, anti tank, and scout. You have a machine gun, healing equipment, a knife, and some grenades as a medic. An assualt gets a knife, machine gun, handgun, and grenades. Engineer gets rifle, mines, wrench (to repair vehicles), explosive, and knife. Anti tank gets bazooka, handgun, grenades, and knife. Lastly, scout gets sniper rifle, handgun, binoculars, grenades, and a knife. Very accurate!! Has the battles of Iwo Jima, Battle of the Bulge, Omaha Beach, Battle of the Midway, Wake Island, Operation Battleaxe, and more. Not good for people with slow processors!! Can freeze if you don't have at least a 800 mhz processors. You can fly planes, bombers, drive a jeep, fire some shells in a tank, explore the underwater world with a submarine, command an anti aircraft gun, and command a large sheller. A must for WWII buffs!!!

Summary: Battlefield 1942 is simply the best
Review: My brother and I bought this one day after playing it at a friends house. Let me tell you this, it is well worth your money.

Ok, let's get started!

Pros:

1) Awesome vehicles and weapons
2) Very detailed
3) Great A.I. skills- Easy is easy and hard is hard
4) Awesome choices-(Medic, Engineer, Anti-Tank, Assault, Sniper)
5) Great Music
6) You can play online for free!

Cons:

1) Play is sluggish on old computers
2) Could use a varied assorment of music
3) Map loading time is very slow
4) Needs more maps (Problen solved with "Road to Rome Expansion Pack")

As you can see, there are many pros and cons. But don't let the cons make it seem bad. It is the opposite. In the Battlefield 1942 game, i belive there are 16 maps (could be 12). The "Road to Rome" expansion pack gives you 8 more maps and 2 new armies. (Although I have not bought it yet.)

Overall, don't let all the bad reviews give you second thoughts. This game is well worth your money. I guarentee that. It has been rated #1 in many aspects of the game by a myriad of magazines and gamers like myself.

If you do decide to get this game, you won't regret it.

Summary: Too much fun to be legal!
Review: I bought this game upon the recommendation of "Extended Play" review and favorable reviews from owners. If you buy this game you might as well settle in with massive quantities of snacks and sodas-IT IS AWESOME! 2-3 hours at one sitting is commonplace, it is that much fun. I am relatively new at gaming, and more so at PC gaming, but I am loving this! Amazon.com made a great deal on the Deluxe Edition, with "Road to Rome" expansion pack and free shipping! ...

Summary: This game is a twinkee... great taste, no substance.
Review: Two of my favorite types of games are First-Person Shooters and Flight Simulators, naturally this game grabbed me right away and I bought it. I thought it was the greatest thing out there... for the first two weeks then I went back to Day of Defeat ...
The Good:
This is a one of a kind game, in the fact that it is the first WWII online game to let anyone pilot or drive any vehicle you can get your hands on. This is also one of the first games to let you play with 64 people at the same time. That is about were the good goes sour.

The Bad:
Yeah vehicles are a good idea, but the physics of the Jeeps, APCs, Planes, tanks... and every vehicle in the game seem skewed. The land vehicles slide all over the place making it tough to manuver on treacherous terrain. After some getting use to it though, you can manage. Playing with 64 people is great, except finding a server with that many people playing is difficult. I have seen maybe 3 or 4 64 player servers with A: maxed out people or B: a good pin,g in the months I have had this game. If you are one of the few gamers without a broadband connection, don't even bother, you don't stand a chance online and the single player AI requires a monster machine to run if you want them to be the least bit challenging. Also, the difficulty levels swing from every bot seeming to have a labotomy, to now they are all suddenly Rambo and you get sniped from all the way across the map by some bot with a pistol named Henry Weiner. The weapon models are all pretty ugly, especially the BAR, which looks like something you'd see in your nephews toy chest. The other thing that irks me about this game is it is a WWII simulation with no M1 Garand... just pitiful.

Buy this game if:
-You have a 2.0+ ghz machine, at least 256 megs of RAM, a 64mb video card, a broadband internet connection, you enjoy poorly done vehicles and physics, and you are a glutton for punishment.

Don't buy this game if:
-You want to have fun. Your better off getting the Day of Defeat mod for Half-life ...

Summary: A great change from Medal of Honor
Review: As I was reading the back of the game, it hit me that Battlefield was a remake of Medal of Honor. Little did I realize that when I actually played the game, I was very wrong. Battlefield 1942 has some major features that MOH could never have pulled off. In Battlefield, you take part in some of the biggest and most important operations in WW2 including the ever popular Omaha Beach and Market Garden. The gameplay is awesome. You fight alongside your allies in 12 action packed missions with very similar objectives: (capture all outposts to hold the enemy at bay), You can take the place of 5 different posistions in the army (scout, assault, anti-tank, medic, and engineer) each has special techniques and unique weapons(utilize all 5 to maximize your gaming experience). A bonus feature in Battlefield is the ability to use any kind of artillery you find in the battlefield ranging from German Panzers, Sherman tanks, AA guns, airplanes, jeeps, halftraks, the all powerful Tiger Tank, and pilot battleships, carriers, and LCPs.
So choose your side(axis or allies) and get ready for a side of WW2 you have never seen before.
Bottom Line: Battlefield 1942 is fully loaded and ready to blow you away.
