Rating: Summary: How is this game getting good reviews?? Review: I bought this game cause it looked like it would be so much fun to play with the variety of vehicles you could use. However, it is almost unplayable. The gameplay is horrible! The graphics and specially the sound are super choppy. The system requirements are huge but even with everything turned down it still plays horribly. Guess after playing Medal Of Honor maybe I was spoiled?? Its too bad cause there is so much potential with this game. Sadly, it was far from executed. My advice?? Save your money and buy Medal of Honor and the expansion pack coming out in November. You will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Battlefield 1942, What they don't tell you! Review: Awsome idea! But if you don't have a state of the art system forget it. If you dont have better than a 48,000 connection forget about playing online. I have a great system and like everyone else I have a problem with lockup, & loading times. Some games in the single player instant battles won't even load. If you get one of the games that are out now, you have to d/l a patch so you can play online.
Rating: Summary: A midget compared to other games Review: No doubt, the game is indeed fun. With 16 different maps and 4 different nations, the game can be played over and over again with the same satisfaction. One problem, there is no story to this game. The objective is not to infiltrate an enemy building or sabotage a base, but only to shoot and kill, shoot and kill. The game is just too simple. In games like Medal of Honor, you actually had to use your head. It was almost like a puzzle, with hidden areas all over the place. This is where creativity comes in. As for Battlefield 1942, all you do is run around the map and shoot soldiers. Also, I think the intensity of the game is just below average. Why is this so? The number of soldiers participating is too small. At one point of the game, I discovered that there were only two other men on my side fighting along me! In the Omaha level, I easily dodged the German bullets even though the ratio between enemy soldiers and friendly ones was on "Impossible" level. Come on, where's the excitement? In MOHAA, you had bullets flying all over the place with endless numbers of Americans falling around you. You actually had to use the obstacles as protection. The game just could have been better. In the Stalingrad map, it would have been more interesting if the Russians actually had to cross the Volga in boats with German planes flying above. In Iwo Jima, there could have been caves and underground tunnels. To sum it up, I think the game needs more creativity. More soldiers should participate in the Single Player Missions. 10 or 15 soldiers on each side may seem interesting and fun, but when you realize the size of the map, it's sometimes really difficult to find the enemy, especially in some of the desert maps. Also, I would appreciate it more if the AI would use the planes more. But do you know what frustrates me the most? Where in the world is that ...submarine?
Rating: Summary: requirements Review: waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too mcuh requirements...cthe grpahics arent thaaaaat good. I give this a one i hope maybe theyll allow more people to be able to play
Rating: Summary: AWSOME GAME!!! Review: This game has to be one of my favorites of today. Before, I had downloaded the demo versions, when I say versions I am talking about the single player and the multiplayer demos. Once installed, I was amazed on how beautiful the graphics looked, and how much fun the game really was. So, the day BF1942 came out, I went out, bought it and I was amazed once again! There are over 15 maps you can play from. I myself personally play this game on the internet a lot, and it runs GREAT! Of course, I have a really great internet, I use a cable modem, and note if you have a 56k modem, switch to Cable or DSL! I really hate it when other people rate this game LOW on scores because their computers are outdated. They should go and either upgrade their computer, or buy another one! But the last 2 reviews from "gamer" are weak, he rates it low, because he has a sorry computer and doesnt know the meaning of UPDATING! Over all this game is great for Multiplayer, Single Player and everything. Highly recomended for hours and hours of fun!
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing and extremly frustrating Review: I did not expect THAT much from this game, since I saw it more as a "Help-me-to-get-over-the-waiting-time-for-UT2003", but I have to say, it is fun. Sometimes. Occasionally. Like when you're really trying to defend your Pearl Habor island. Or trying to attack a beach at Normandy. Or walking through the ruins of Berlin, without knowing where the enemies are. In these rare times you get this fun feeling, war games sometimes are succesful in. Yes, it can be fun and thrilling at times. It is a nice idea to the be able to drive tanks or run around as a soldier or drive in a boat or sit behind a big cannon or a flak. The levels are well-made most of the time. BUT...BUT what sense do some moments of fun have when most of the time you're simply frustrated. Because of the menues that are confusing. Because of the missing of any kind of help or tutorial (besides the ridiculous tool function which only works while you're busy being in battle). Because of the bad-solved handling. Because of the bugs, bugs, bugs. And mainly because of the embarassing AI. Your fellow soldiers spend a lot of time running around in circles (literally) or even better, driving around in circles. They run in wrong directions or just stand around doing nothing, while you're base is attacked. They succeed in running into every enemy fire that they can find. On the other hand your enemies are so good, you rarely have a chance to succeed. They can kill you with one bullet even if they don't even see you. It happens so often that you run over the field, getting killed without the slightest idea who did it. You're never allowed to get a look over the complete battlefield, so it takes you half a mission to get some orientation. The campaing system is absolutely meaningless, since a) if you've lost two missions you're not allowed to go on, b) it is nearly impossible NOT to lose two missions and c) you can leave the campaign and play all missions anyway. There is so much more to discover. Negative things of course. Finally a game where the screenshot-function makes sense, since you can show your friends the best bugs you've seen. Like jeeps and tanks standing in houses (right in the wall) or on rooftops. Vehicles that are dancing on the ground. Groups of enemies that stand some feet beside you doing nothing but watching the sea. Soldiers who are not getting killed by hitting them with a driving tank, but who instead simply stand on it, driving all along the way. In multiplayer this game surely can be more fun, but in single player it is impossible to coordinate your fellow soldiers. Of course you have to lose the battle, if every single soldier runs alone into the enemy base, getting shot at the entrance. Or when they repeatedly enter and exit a vehicle, like ten times in 20 seconds. And if you'll ever manage to fly a plane without crashing AND succeed to aim and shoot with it at the same time..., well, then you're a real magician. Overall, it is fun to play it. It is not fun to pay for it, because if you manage to get any other good battle game into your hands (like RtCW, MoH or UT2003) your brain will eventually delete any memory of this game. Give the game some 3-4 patches and bugfixes and it may be another thing. But given the current status of the game, it is more like a disaster. But nevertheless a disaster you can have fun with. Sometimes. When you're not busy getting that tank down from the roof.
Rating: Summary: Best FPS yet? Yes! Review: I've played First Person Shooters for nearly 10 years now, and I've always wanted one like this. Other games have tried giving you control of vehicles, but none has done it as sucessfully as EA has now. Yes, the game is Bandwidth intensive, but once you find a good T1 hosted server it is so much fun! This game offers more ways to die than most any game I've ever played. My favorite method for allowing someone to rest in pieces is to run them down with a Jeep, Tank, or Armored Car. There is also alot to be said for killing a medic, then using his med kit to restore your own health. Teamwork makes this game one of the best ever. Grab a B-17 and fly around while your buddy mans the belly gun, or work as a spotter while your buddy fires the cannons on the battleship. Read the hardware requirments, but you should do that with any new game. The disc for this game has set up permant residence in my CD drive.
Rating: Summary: My true story: Great anticipation vs. great frustration Review: BF1942 is a very promising and innovative game. It combines all types of combats (air, naval, tank and infantry) into one game. Its maps are very large to accommodate max. 64 players with ships, tanks and planes. The graphics are fairly detailed and visually pleasing. With the release of its multiplayer demo, BF1942 demo instantly became the second most popular online game on GameSpy network--around 5,000 people playing at any given time. And I was one of them. On the day of full game release, I rushed to buy it with great excitement. However, my great anticipation soon turned into great frustration: 1. While the MP demo runs smoothly on my PC, the retail version was often choppy. When I was on a ship, the lag was so serious that I fell off the deck several times. 2. My PC meets not only the minimum system requirements, but also the recommended ones. But I could hardly enjoy the game until I adjust all the settings to low--sound and graphics, and turn off antialiasing feature on my video card. I have never spent so much time in reading game forums and learning how to adjust settings in order to enjoy the game. Very frustrating. 3. Although the developer claims that this game can accommodate up to 64 players, I hardly see any servers hosting 64 players, not even the publisher's servers. My guess is that the game is too choppy to be playable if a server hosts 64 players. Perhaps, BF1942 is such a great concept that it is ahead our time. Or the developer DICE lacks expertise in making such a large scale online game. Nevetherless, we should appreciate DICE for aiming high and pushing the evelope. My advise is that: wait until a few more patches released before you buy. ===== March 13, 2002 I am pleased to say that with the release of patch 1.31, BF1942 run smoothly with no bugs. Also, note that I have upgraded my RAM from 256 MB to 512 MB. Thus, I now give this game five stars!
Rating: Summary: Cool Game Review: This is a very fun game once you get started. There are a few bugs that need to be fixed before you play. You also have to download a patch. Battlefield 1942 is not very realistic-but extremely fun! All of the armies allied with each other share weapons, and the Japanese and Russians share a submachine gun, even though they are not allied. When you are on a ship and not actually manning it, it is very hard to walk around and sometimes gets frustrating. The gameplay is very exciting and almost Quake-like, except none of the weapons dominate. Whenever a tank rolls into a base and starts firing, everyone concentrates on killing the tank because of its extreme killing power, the only weaknesses from infantry are Bazookas/panzerschreks and grenades. The planes are also very fun to fly, but they take getting used to.
Rating: Summary: Get this game!!! Years of enjoyment await.... Review: This game has everything we have been waiting for... So what if you have to upgrade your system... I have a P4 2.26ghz/533fsb, Ti4600 128MB GeForce4, 512MB PC2700(DDR333) and this game SCREAMS!!! I tried to play the demo, Matrox Viper770 (32MB) wouldn't cut it, so I upgraded. Smooth game play, great maps, excellent missions... If you play CS or DOD this game will make your heart go pitter patter... Updates will fix the weapons accuracy from perfect to realistic, but other than that, NO COMPLAINTS.
