Summary: This Game is FANtastic!!!
Review: As an avid L&O fan, I was excited to try out this game. I had high expectations and 'Dead on the Money' certainly delivered. The game follows the format of the show by picking up a topic ripped straight from the headlines and running with it. The game has interesting plot twists and ambiguious characters/suspects. This unfolds along with a presentation of the case from crime scene to courtroom. The animation is sophisticated and the virtual sets are very sleek and stylized. Actors from the show provide the voiceover making for a realistic and familiar feel for fans. Intellectually the game is challenging and I've played for nearly 20 hours in just 4 days! I've played a few other role-immersion games and this one ranks up there with the best. If you like L&O, you'll LOVE this game.

Summary: Warning!
Review: Be warned that this game does not work in all computers. I have an HP pentium IV, but when I tried to play I was unable to access the crime scene which is the main screen. All I got was a black screen. I went to the Legacy Interactive website hoping to resolve the problem, and found there were many other people experiencing this problem. The game maker apoligizes but has no solution for it, but say they are working on it.

Summary: would have been nice, if I could have played it
Review: Being that Law and Order is one of my favorite shows, and detective/mystery games are also my favorite (in fact I am going to school for forensic science) I had to buy this game. Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to work on any computer that I have in my home. On my desktop it loads, but it is only a dark screen, on my lap top at least I get to see the beginning of the game (when they discover the body and the computer likeness of Briscoe lamenting about some days it's better to stay in bed) but that's about it. It was a great disapointment and one reason why I tend to shy away from buying games for the computer, vying more for playstation games, at least these are guarentee to load. Because stores never give refunds for open software, I'm stuck with a c.d.that I may never be able to play, dispite the fact that I added a new sound and video card. Oh well, enough of that. that is one reason that I rated it one star, though I heard that it was a very good game, I guess I'll have to hope and wait that it becomes a playstation game.

Summary: Fun-Freeze-Crash
Review: Da Dooooooooooom. Law and Order: Dead On The Money is right now probably one of the best mystery detective games as well a Court or Trial game (though I don't any other Court or Trail games) out there. The game is a close follow of Law and Order, a T.V. show which depicts a murder case from aresting the perp to convicting him. If you havn't seen this show then what have you seen. The game (staring celebrity vioces and characters of Jerry Orbach, S. Epatha Merkerson and Elisabeth Rohm) does a good job of following a Law and Order story as if it was a real show. They've even included the Da Doooooooooooooooooooms.

The game begins as you watch a FMV of a maintence worker find a strangled hot shot broker (which you begin to find as you explore). You then are able to, as partner with Detective Lennie Briscoe (vioce of Jerry Orbach) scour the crime scene, follow leads and travel around the city interviewing witnesses. After getting an aresst warrant and arresting the perp you become an Assistant District Attorney where you present your case to a Jury and gather further incriminating evidence.

When you first begin the game you pick your levels of non-strengh (I highly suggest picking the effiency non-strenth for first time users) which will affect what happens during the game. Picking: Evidence Collection will magnify items and clues; Interviewing / Questioning Witnesses will leave only two questions able to ask; Teamwork will leave cell-phone messages, fax's and a note on the chalboard at the precinct from your supervisor, hinting you on what action to take next; Efficiency will make all of your actions take less time, this is important because you only have seven days (not reel time) to arrest the perp.

You then begin to start gameplay as you have a some-what large array of options at your fingers.

Finding clues is ussauly a lot of fun, though you have to be careful because time is ticking (note, though, when the mouse is idle time does not tick). Move your mouse across the screen and when you think you have something click. You then zoom-in on the clue it may or may not be something. If you think it will be important put it your case file or you can, just, leave it. Be careful though because you only have room for fifty items in your case file. This is very dissapointing becuase you know as a real detective you would pick up everything, but it does give the game a bit of spa-zaz. After putting things in your case file you can submit a lab report (after completed you will be able to visit the crime lab and get your results) a records and research report for either items or persons (when completed go to R&R to get those reports) or you can submit a surveilance report or phyciatrist evaluation (you are able to visit those places and a get a report as well). Another place to visit is the Medical Examiners office to learn about important clues.

Also in the case file you can file search warrants and arrest warrants, though they do have to get past your supervisor (either D.A. Douglas Wade -vioce of Victor Brandt- or Lt. Anita Van Buren- vioce of Epatha Merkerson) or the Defense Attorney and the Judge Emily Greenwood (played as Florence Stanley). When the Assistant D.A. you will be able to file types of supbeonas in the case file. When a search warrant gets through you get to visit a new apartment , home or place.

Interviewing witnesses is tons of fun but you have to make sure you ask the right question to get new leads and good info. If you don't Briscoe should comment when your done, while you review your interview and decide if you should add it to your case file. Top ask the questions you click on the one you want to ask on the notepad on the right half of the screen (fun, huh?).

As Assistant D.A. with Serena Southerlyn (played by Elisabeth Rohm) you continue your investigation and present your case to a jury. You are also able to object when the Defense Attorney is out of line. A lot more fun than it sounds.

During gameplay at the bottom of the screen their be a bar, where you can answer your cell-phone, view your case file, view the map to travel around town and interview witnesses and to go to the main menu.

The problem with this game is not the stunning graphics, the amazing gameplay nor the countless scenarios it is how it FREEZES ALL THE FREAKIN TIME ALL THE FREAKIN TIME ALLL THE FREAKIN TIME ALL THE FREAKIN TIME GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't emphazize this enough what ever you do it just don't get better and you know I have a pretty nice computer.

Overall there are many features that I haven't mentioned that are just spectacular like negoteating with witnesses and piecing together puzzles. To any Law and Order fan or if you just like a good mystery this game should be yours. It offers everything you could want and when realing thinking about it there arn't that many things that could be improved. Remember save a lot because this game crashes A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH I hope that my review was useful.

Summary: Technically flawed, boring plot
Review: First thing that hits you n this game is the incredibly slow pacing and terrible technical flaws. Once you have the game working you face what is basically an FMV game. While that isn't necissaily bad, why they used bad 3d models instead of real actors is beyond me. The 3d used for the videos could have easily been done in real time, yet they use a disjointed fmv format. The game is also extremely wasteful of system resources, the requirements are very steep for something that had been done successfully on systems half as fast as what this game needs.

Then you move on to the plot that is, at best, a bad pisode of Law and Order. This is definitely not up to the level that the show has given us.

In all, it's just not worth the aggrivation of fighting the games bugs that force to to keep replayng parts of the game until you get lucky enough to miss the bugs.

Summary: This game is beyond horrible
Review: For starters, there is only one case. Once you solve that, you are done and can sell it at a yard sale. This kinda irks me. Once you've written the interface, how hard is it to make a few more story lines?

The interface is a pain to use. I bought the game for my mother, an avid Law & Order fan and she had a time with it. All of the scenes in the game are basically panoramic images that I can only assume are rendered in Quicktime. After reading one of the other reviews here, I visited the website and played the online demo. For the life of me, I can't imagine why they didn't use that interface in the real game - it is much easier to use.

The time constraints bother me quite a bit. At the beginning of the game, you are allowed to choose two of four qualities to help you. One of them is "efficiency" - that you won't take as much time doing things. Well, under normal time constraints, if you do EXACTLY the right steps, wasting no time whatsoever, you barely finish in time. If you select "efficiency", then time moves so slowly that you basically have to sit there and mark time waiting for something to happen. There needs to be a middle ground here.

One of the things that gets me to no end is that a lot of the evidence you collect at the crime scene really blends in with the dirt. There was one critical piece of evidence of evidence that my mother and I spent a half an hour looking for. Another one of the helpers you can choose is "evidence collection", where your cursor will be changed into a magnifying glass whenever you hover over a piece of evidence. This is almost essential.

Also, one word of caution: save frequently. If you go out on a tangent that turns out to be wrong, you will need to load your saved game to get your wasted time back. Also, I've had it lock up a couple of times for no good reason.

Another word of caution: the box says that it needs 96 megs of RAM. Well, one of the times that it locked up, I saw that it was using well over 200 megs. This didn't particularly bother me because my mother's machine has a gig in it, but I would have to think that with under 256 megs, it would be constantly reading from the hard drive.

A third word of caution: they suggest installing the Java runtime environment. I ran the game on Windows 2000 just fine without it. The help says that you only need to install Java if you have XP so I'd be inclined to leave well enough alone and not install it unless you need to.

A fourth word of caution: I'd suggest finding someone who has this game and taking a look at it before buying it.

Summary: Excellent game
Review: Great game for fans of the show as well as someone who's never seen it. The different stages of the game allow you to play different parts in a crime investigation. Search for evidence, question witnesses, and try to get an arrest warrant before your time runs out. Then play as the DA, and again try to beat the clock and the defense to get a conviction. Lots of problem solving fun.

Summary: What you don't know, can hurt you
Review: I agree with a fellow reviewer on the box not listing all the needed requirements. We had to download upgrades to our NEW computer to even play this. Otherwise the screen would go black at certain points and shut down. It seems you need Direct X 8.0 The creators of Law and Order are negligent in telling you this so I hope you have internet access in order to get the patch from their website. Anyway, after you get everything you need downloaded and figured out; then it is an enjoyable game, but if you aren't willing to go through the inevitable hassle, please don't buy this game.

Summary: Save Your Time and Money
Review: I am a huge fan of Law and Order and could not wait for this game to be released. Unfortunately, this game has so many bugs, I could not bear to finish it. Between the constant lock ups and waiting forever and a day for the lab to process my evidence, the game is just plain boring. If you want an interesting, solid detective game (with more than one case), I would highly recommend CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (even though I think Law and Order as a television show is much better).
