Summary: Heavy Feature Cuts, Game Delays.
Review: Please note this game has been pushed back from it's original release date of 4/15/03. No future release date has been announced. Since none of the reviews seem to have provided decent information about the game itself, I'll try and provide some. Further information and explinations can be found on the official site...

First, comparisons to EQ, DAoC, AO, AC1/2 apply only in regards to SWG being a MMO. The game is set out to be more like UO 'done right' than a real relation to any of the recent entries into the market. They are using Skill-based characters that don't fit into the hard 'class archtypes' of the rest of the market. You could have a crafter that fights or a healer that can tinker, dance, and cook up a set of buffs.

There will be only single character servers. You have the ability to play on a maximum of 10 servers, with one character on each of those servers. 'Rerolls' will require playing on a different server, selling back exsisting character skills, or (in the case of playing a different species on a server you like) deletion of the character.

There will be no vehicles in the game at launch, although they are a high priority immediately after launch. The same is true of player-run cities and the 'politician' profession to manage those cities. (This just means no taxation methods, or central 'governments' for player housing. You can still build houses and guild halls at launch.)

There will be no spaceships available to players for a minimum of a year after launch. This will also require the purchase of an expansion pack.

You *will* *not* be a Jedi in this game. Period. This is a stated goal of the developers. You can try, but they only want the slimmest portion of the playerbase to be able. (i.e. only the Crush(FoH) or Tigoles of EQ, or the Ronald McDonalds of UO) There is a complex system to create a 'Force Sensitive' Character slot. That slot is subject to perma-death. (You die, the character is deleted)

I've given the game a two star rating because it can only fail to live-up to expectations. The lack of vehicles, ships, or other iconic (outside of NPC characters) touches is leading this game towards dissapointment of fans of Star Wars. If it weren't hampered by the franchise it's linked to this could be a good game. With the various expectations of the franchise and the fans linked to it, nothing good will happen for this game.

Summary: Middle of the Road...
Review: ...I just quit playing another MMORPG, made by SoE as it were, due to balances in the game that I felt weren't being addressed. That said, I have pre-ordered this forthcoming title with hopes it will live up to it's licensing. Unfortunately, or fortunately, dependent on your viewpoint; the release date has been pushed back, to 'tweak' the experience.
I feel this MMORPG will perhaps live up to the hype that all of them have tried, true uniqueness of every character and incredible customizability.
Utilizing the most recognized license in existance, save perhaps Jesus, this game takes place long ago in a galaxy far away(yet suprisingly familiar). In the initial incarnation you'll be able to be one of eight races, following one of six career paths that lead to over 60 different jobs, each with their own special skills...and no you won't get to just 'Be' a Jedi, you have to earn it. As for the monthly fee it will probably be fifteen_us_dollars, basing this figure on everquest's thirteen

Summary: A Galazy further away than you think
Review: From what I have seen and have read from the official reviews and from what I have heard by a friend of mine that is working on the game, it will be graphically beautiful, the mechanics sound and the theme close to what we expect from a SW universe.

Unfortunately, I do not believe we have the technology at present to do justice to a SW universe, which is evident by what this game is able to offer. There is no real galaxy to explore, no extensive space flight, no space combat. This game will have a very similar feel as Anarchy Online.

I think the game is being developed and release prematurely and will just be a cash-cow driven by fans expecting something they wont really get. We are probably around five years too early in developing a game of its scope, which is unfortunate since its early development will mean we will probably never see what it could have been.

I think the game will disappoint as much as the recent movies, Lucas has gone a long way to destroying what has been much loved about Star Wars, that is a quality story, universe and theme with alot of depth and imagination.

I recommend people that purchase the game do so with little to no real expectation, that way you probably wont be disappointed. I believe the people at SOE have done as good a job as possible, but there are some things that shouldn't be done unless you can give it the justice it deserves.

Summary: Well worth the monthly Fee
Review: This game will be awesome. I've been following it for about a year, and had the disappointment of the delayed release like 5 times. I'm certain that this time is the charm! Even though you have to pay a monthly fee, it will be well worth it to be able to immerse yourself in such a well recreated Star Wars universe. You can literally do anything, or be anything you can imagine. I can't wait!

Summary: Best game ever...
Review: How can I describe this game? Oh yeah, SWEET!!!
With the realistic enviroments and many varieties of races and planets to go to including skills to pick from who wouldn't give it a five? One of the best online role playing games I have experienced yet. There is more new surprises every time you play! One tip of advice... GET THIS GAME.

Summary: A little frown on LucasArts...
Review: I've quite a bit about this game, and it looks like a very good game. I myself, am an avid gamer and Star Wars lover.

I am a MacUser and i do video editing, and stuff. Unless somebodys heard something i havent, i dont think this game is coming out for mac, which really disappoints me. Although the game looks great, and plays even better, im sad its not coming out for mac.

Summary: SWG well planned and thought out.
Review: I have recently had a chance to read some of thew reviews on here and am very disappointed in the short-sightedness of the individuals writing them. Yes, perhaps there will not be MCS (Multi-character servers), but this is necessary for release. This is one the most highly anticipated games EVER, and being such, they will need to minimize bandwidth in order to keep prices down on the various servers they will offer.

I have also seen a lot of complaints regarding the poor service of the company that will be overseeing these servers. Keep in mind, this is a LucasArts game. Lucas and his team will make sure this is successful. Everything Lucas touches is gold, this will be no different.

A lot of people like to complain about the fact that they won't be able to start the game as a Jedi. Take a second and think to yourself, "How many Jedi were in the original trilogy?" The answer was fairly low, six to be exact. The Emperor, Vader, Luke, Leia (Not really trained), Yoda and Obi-Wan. Six out of all the characters you see. Being Force sensitive is rare, and as such you should feel lucky that they even included a feature to eventually allow you to become a Jedi.

Good luck and enjoy the game for what it is....a masterpiece.

Summary: Rock on baby, this game kicks some serious ...
Review: This is awesome. U can do anything u want to do! Its like a real Star Wars world. The graphics are excellent, much better than Everquest (after Luclin expansion) and fighting is kick ... U can be a smuggler, and sneak around, killing and stealing, or u can be someone like an imperial guard and "search and destroy" Also, It's definitely worth joining up on imperial or rebels. I chose imperials, and u can go to different worlds lightspeed! U can bet on fights against creatures that are in a fighting ring, and u can push NPCs in the fighting circle and watch em die. U can also race on an assortment of vehicles such as speeder bikes, and ships like (keyword "Like") the Millineum Falcon. A definite Must have, quite possibly the best game ive ever played!

Summary: One character per server
Review: Although this may be a game based on Star Wars I will not buy it if there is only one character allowed per server.

With a single PC able to run this game, this means I cannot share my account on the same server with my son. No trading/sharing of items, no grouping with the same friends.

A very poor business decision, please be aware if you were going to preorder this game.

Summary: SOE makes good games, but they come at a price
Review: SOE is the amazingly greedy company that in their previous game charged you real money (and a lot of it) to get things done. They promise customer service, then start a new game server with "improved customer service" charging 3x the price of normal service, and neglect everyone else.

The kicker of this game is you will only be able to have ONE CHARACTER PER SERVER. On top of limiting you to one character per server, which limits family play, you will have to PAY MORE THAN ANY OTHER MMORPG IN EXISTANCE.

Expect monthly rates to go up, and customer service to go down. When people get sick of the service, they will offer you a better service option, at an increased price. Avoid all the headache and price guaging that will come with this game and wait until World of Warcraft comes out, Blizzard has yet to make a bad game.
