Summary: Don't even think about it...
Review: This game is ONLY for hardcore starwars fans. If you are looking for a fun mmorpg and you dont care about graphics, play Ultima Online. Or if your into mmorpg with nice graphics, then wait for the release of World Of WarCraft, since its a blizzard game, you will get what you expect.

Summary: Utter disappointment - SWG = EQ and SIMs in space
Review: It only took 3 weeks for me to realize this game is a joke. The only draw is the crafting system and the Star Wars theme. Even then, there are no creature mounts, vehicles (which almost seem like additionaly characters in the original trilogy), and several months away before any Jedi PCs arrive.

The game mechanics interfere with the game.

The game content is nonexistant. Grab a kill mission, blow up a lair, collect cash and repeat until you can afford that next gun or piece of armor.

I could go on, but I'll say this...I obsessed over this game for a long time. I had decided to build a new computer just to play with two accounts on the same server. I had all my RL friends all on the same server. But ultimately, these things couldn't convince me to subscribe.

I get more out of my free mods for Half Life than I did in 3 weeks of SWG...and I could see where the game is going.

What to do? Wait for another big title to keep me happy.

Summary: Pay to Play Beta Release
Review: Consistent link drops (about once every 30 minutes, which require 3 to 5 minutes to reconnect.) Horrible lag in town areas. Content consists of going from town to town for different kill missions. The interface is very cumbersome.

The game amounts to a beta release of any of the other online roleplaying games with a new skin. Either stick with another game that is further from beta, or wait 6 to 12 months to try SWG.

Summary: Fun, but you've got to work for it.
Review: I'm really enjoying this game. The complaint that some people are giving this game is valid, but I think it's being addresses pretty quickly. The complaint is that the "content" isn't there with this game. Everquest had story lines built into the game. Until just this week (third week of July 2003), Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) didn't seem to have any of these overarching stories. This week though, a new three month long story has started called "The Cries of Alderan". I hope my fellow SWGers will enjoy this new aspect of the game. The developers say these three month long story archs will be something the game has from now on. I'm already enjoying the game without these stories, but I'm glad they are there. I've spent my time getting to know people and just playing with them. So, basically, this game for me is about hanging out in a galaxy far, far, away and meeting new friends. What's not to like?

Summary: Perfect MMORPG for scifi fans
Review: Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided was the game that wowed E3 participants and has been a much-waited-for release. A MMORPG about Star Wars? How more perfect than that could you get?

Being an incredibly enthusiastic fan of MMORPGs, and trying just about every new one that comes out, I got my hands on the Collector's Ediction of the Star Wars Galaxy box as soon as I could. It had a few extras - signed manual, little figure, patch and pin.

But of course the real test is actual gameplay. If you are at all a fan of the Star Wars saga, it is just SO neat to get into the game and hear that familiar music, and start choosing from the available races. The choices are great - Human, Wookiee, Bothan, Mon Calamari, Rodian, Trandoshan, Twi'lek, or Zabrak. You choose male or female, and then the type of character.

The customization of your character is simply AMAZING. You change eyes, hair, tattoos, shape, size, EVERYTHING. While many other games make a female a "Barbie Big Breasted Bimbo", in this one you can make your character look as realistic as you want - tweaking literally every part! You really end up with a character that you feel fully comfortable with.

There's a training mission that walks you nicely through every part of gameplay, from moving to combat to talking to other people. I found the controls very intuitive and while there was a moment that I was "jetissoned into space", I'm sure those bugs will go away as the game goes on.

Then, when you're ready, you head out into the real world - choosing from your favorite planets! I hopped onto Naboo, and wandered around a visually lush world. There were NPCs to talk to, missions to go on ... but sadly, very few people. Yes, it's a brand new release, so hopefully more people will be coming on soon. It's still a bit depressing to go into a thriving city and have it seem like a post-holocaust wasteland.

Like any MMORPG, it comes down to how much YOU enjoy the world that is there, and what sorts of friends you meet to have fun within it. If SciFi and Star Wars are your thing, this is the place for you!

Summary: The best MMORPG ever
Review: Hello. This is the ultimate game. It has it all. You can do anything you want in the galaxy and it is only going to get better. Of course as a die-hard Star Wars fan I have nothing but praise. Did they release it early...YES. But all MMORPG have kinks when they first come out. The gameplay is awesome. You can't do it alone...make friends and have fun.

Summary: Do yourself a favor.....Wait AT LEAST 6 Months
Review: I'm a 29 year old veteran of MMORPGs....and SWG so far is a Bust... Why? well, I played Beta...as I have played many MMORPG Beta's....and... well.. SWG as it is, has NO Content...and there is NO High End Game. The Official SWG Forums are splattered with irate customers... it's nearly as bad as AO's launch and the current state of affairs is leading SWG to a almost AC2 fall from grace. Again, I played Beta...and Screamed, pleaded and begged them not to release the game for another 6 months becasue of the issues still at large... Do yourself a favor and WAIT at least 6 months...I and many others have already canceld our subscriptions for now.. including my 2 roomates.. I may try again in 6 months but then again, World of Warcraft may be out by then..and a fair comparison of SOE release's VS Blizzard releases has me wishing WoW was out now. and I LOVE SW.... but SWG..and Empire Devided...the only thing devided is the player base from anything FUN.

Summary: BUYER BEWARE! Empty promises, bad support, horrible bugs
Review: I followed this game for a few years now.

When I got my invite to BETA I was astonished by the graphic engine and the profession possibilities. I tested (and played) hard, and submitted 100s og bug reports.

Now fast forward to the present.

The game is still in full BETA mode. Harvestors (what crafters place to gather resourced) are horribly broken. Bounty Hunters cannot accept bounties on players, nor can a player place a bounty.

Smugglers are glorfied drug lords/hackers who can "slice" weapons and make "Spices" which are booster drugs. There are no vehicles, no Player cities, nothing but a pretty engine and thousands of missions to fill up your time. Deliver this, kill that.

Virtually every system is laiden with bugs, some so bad it leaves the game unplayable.

And of course, there are no stars in Star Wars. No space, and no PA halls. (Actually there are halls, but they are so bugged that they are completely non-functional.

This game has a lot of potential, however you should save your money. Without the space expansion and player vehicles this is NOT Star Wars. Imagine Ben and Luke walking to Mos Eisley.

In 6 months - 1 year the game may make a comeback. Until then it is a lot of broken promises, bad customer support who treats it's paying customers like whiney children, and a virtual testing zone for future QAs.

Summary: Waiting for Space Expansion
Review: I had such incredibly high hopes for this game, I watched the development boards and finally managed to get into the Beta. Visually, the game is excellent. It's very immersive and really does look and sound like Star Wars. You spend your first couple of hours playing the game just walking around going "oooh...ahhhh". Game play however is...well...let's just say SWG just doesn't stand out from the crowd of MMORPGs that are currently out there. Sony left out some key elements out of the initial release of the game, such as vehicles, mounts, and player controlled cities that really needed to be in the game. The entire concept behind the Galactic Civil war and all the possibilities of in-depth player vs. player combat has been pretty much nerfed into oblivion. And make sure you get your character exactly the way you want it because while you get 10 characters, you only get one per server. The entire game is also run by a player based economy, so you're going to be spending a LOT of time trying to figure out the crafting systems and trying to find someone to make better equipment for you.

Frankly, I gave this game the third star because it's Star Wars. I'm hoping that with the release of the Space Expansion pack sometime in the future, this game will become everything I had hope for.

Summary: Fun for the casual gamer
Review: I am an adult gamer that only has a couple of hours a day to play the game. With that in mind, I find it to be the perfect game. It has so much to do that I have trouble fitting it all in. If I get bored with one aspect, there are 10 other activities to occupy my time.

Being an entertainer is far more fun that I ever expect. Crafting is extremely rewarding and, with the ability to experiment, gives the game tremendous depth. Hunting is fun, but not quite as rich yet. When I am out hunting, I set up a camp and craft for a while and it makes it enjoyable.

Be aware that there are bugs as of 7/22/03, but I have never had any trouble logging in and I have never encountered a show stopping bug. The worst bugs were mildly annoying, but not enough to dampen my enthusiasm

Highly recommended.
