Summary: Really good, but not great
Review: I started playing this game without looking at the instructions and found it very intuitive and easy to grasp. Very similiar layout to the original (wich I love and still play). I love the random events and the AI's aggressive style. I couldn't give it 5 stars because I'm mad that they took away the ability to research multiple technologies simultaneously. It also anoys me that they renamed the map icon to planets. Since I am new to this game, I keep going to planets thinking it will show me the planets under my control. Instead it shows all planets not under my control.

Summary: Immersive and Engulfing Strategy Game
Review: Excellent strategy game with wonderful user interface and a learning curve of about 1/2 hour. Excellent online Info answers most questions that are not answered by the right-click popups for nearly all game controls and items. The jewel case edition includes the 176 page manual on disk as a .pdf file, though the manual will be consulted by most players only out of curiosity or for anecdotal information. Other reviewers have spoken all the words of praise I could lavish on this game. I find it not only "immersive" but engulfing! Twice I have stayed awake until 3:00 am playing, simply unable to resist "one more turn." I also have this games lineal successor and I find MOO2 to be a much better game in every respect.

Summary: Very addictive game!
Review: I can't begin to say how many HOURS of my life I've WASTED on this game!

It's a little bit like a cross between Chess and Monopoly, but in a Star Wars world. It's a turn based strategy game. You're the Emperor of a budding space-faring civilization, one of up to eight.

You expand your colonies out into space and have to deal with the other civilizations doing the same. You can spy on them, trade technology, make treaties, or declar war. Your resources have to be split between doing research, production, building ships, and growing food. Too much of one and not enough of another can prove fatal. One thing becomes obvious after a while--technology wins! If your ships are two or three levels more advanced than your enemy, they're no match. Of course, the opposite is also true! And they might declar war on YOU.

If you like turn-based strategy games and conquering the galaxy sounds interesting, this is the game for you. If you haven't played the previous version (Master of Orion), the learning curve might be a little slow, especially to get used to all of the game's nuances and details, but it's well worth it! The user interface is easy to use and intuitive. Right-clicking on items gives details.

Just beware! Once you get the hang of Master of Orion 2, it can become very habit forming! I *sure* got my money's worth out of this game! :) And now that it has a couple of years under its belt, it's a real bargain.

By the way, sadly, the latest sequel, Master of Orion 3, is a big let-down. Master of Orion 2 is actually a much better game. Until they either give MoO3 a major overhaul or completely rebuild it, I very much recommend skipping MoO3 and stick with MoO2.

Summary: The space game all others are judged against...
Review: Very simply, if you like strategy games, buy this game. If you like space games, buy this game. Until Master of Orion 3 is (ever) released, this is the best space game out there.

You pick a race (or can create your own), explore the galaxy, colonize planets, improve your colonies, develop technology, build a space fleet and take over the galaxy. It is up to you to decide if you will be a peaceful leader of negotiations or a ruthless military expansionist. After all these years, I still play this game again and again.

Summary: Great Solo, Multi Needs Work
Review: The Master of Orion games are very entertaining if you enjoy the build resources and expansion, conquer themes. The different races make is interesting, and it can be done multiplayer.

Down sides. Refitting your ships constantly can take a bit, especially when you have to go back and refit or get rid of yoru old ones. And in the solo game, you can tell it to keep passing turns until something actually happens, making the downtime a lot less. Not so for Muliplayer. you could each be sitting there passing your turn back and forth for awhile before you actually want to do another turn

Summary: greatest game ever
Review: No one game has ever come to be as fun and exciting as this one. By picking the characteristics of you race, the people that you control in the game, one can determine the fate of the game from the very beginning. He can be a fighter whose combat skills are far beyond those of the other characters. Or he can become a master spy and never work for the technologies that can help rule the galaxy. Or he can be a super producer and make more ships, buildings, colonies and more, so that he suffocates his enemies. And there are so many more combinations of great players. This is the ultimate strategy game, and the next one promises to be even more exciting.

Summary: The best sci-fi strategy game of the old millenium
Review: There hasn't been a strategy game like this since the original Master Of Orion. A game that immediately puts the user in a trance-like state of must-play-one-more-turn mode. Unlike some games in this genre that was released around the same time, MOO2 is much easier to get into. Perhaps its the intuitive interface or the adjustable difficulty setting, or the gradual learning curve, whatever the case, once you start playing this game in earnest, you will find it more and more enjoyable as you discover all the multifaceted aspects of this game such as diplomacy, combat, exploration, research, espionage, etc.

Despite the somewhat outdated graphics, I would still highly recommend this game to anyone who has ever played or considered playing a strategy game. You'll be glad you picked it up!
