Summary: This game ROCKS!!!
Review: Sure, it could be longer, but this game doesn't herd you along like many a first-person shooter out there. The dearth of in-game saves actually makes for a better playing experience because it makes you more cautious, more like you would be in real life. You'll notice that the lead character's aim gets better as he becomes more entrenched in his freedom fighter role. Great graphics, great gameplay, great fun. Highly recommended. Right up there with Call of Duty.

Summary: Find the Reds!!
Review: There are a few complaints about this game, but you'll notice that everyone is rating it 4 stars or better. I have played ever first person shooter game there is. Most recently Call of Duty, MOHAA and this one. This may not be the best first person shooter ever, but it is definately worth a try. You'll hear other reviewers complain about poor accuracy with the weapons, not much ammo laying around and sometimes stupid AI party members, but thats what makes this game good. Its not just another Quake where you get to blow stuff up and shoot everyone on the way. You have to think, plan, take obstacles one at a time and sneak up on the enemy.

All in all, the storyline is kind of boring and I didn't really pay much attention to it, but thats only because I wanted to start the next mission and kill some commies.

On the downside, some enemies take a lot of hits before dying, even with good aiming. The bad accuracy of the AK47 and such just make the game harder, by not allowing you to kill everyone from down the street. Deal with it!!

Summary: A good buy INDEED!!!
Review: This game is going to give you tons of fun for a bargain price.

Freedom Fighters is a great little 3rd person shooter that requires thinking and taking advantage/managing resources available. Maybe your first mission is to blow up a bridge...but you need to start another mission first to get the explosives!!! That is the fun in the game.

Your missions require some planning and thought. Don't be mislead - this game is a GREAT SHOOTER! You just can't go in guns a blazin' every time. You get to climb onto roof tops if you are observant enough to investigate alternate routes to attack the enemy. Yes, this game is versatile and you don't have to follow the scripted routines of games like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor.

The graphics are pretty good, the game play is as fast or as calm as you make it, the sound effects and music are enjoyable too. You are limited in weapons and some may get a bit bored. I liked that. The premise is that you are poor, resource drained street rebels (like the movie Red Dawn). So if that is the case, you WOULD have limited weapons to use.

Enemy AI is a bit lame. (I don't any soldiers that would crawl slowly in a wide open street when snipers are picking them off..lol) At times the AI is very tough and other times the enemies are completely deaf and blind it seems. I was disappointed by this. However, the enjoyment and adventure provided more than make up for this.

This game can be solved in 6 hours or could take you 12 hours depending on your methods and strategies.

Get this game, study the in-game maps and briefing reports, use your noggin', move slowly, use the terrain to hide and then let 'em have it!!

Summary: Most underrated game I ever played
Review: This game truely surprised me. I played the demo of the xBox version, and did not like it all that much. Then I got this game as a present and ended up playing it, figuring I'd remove it an hour later. Boy was I in for a surprise! I pretty much played the whole game to the end in one weekend and just could not stop!

But first things first: This is a 3rd person shooter ('over the shoulder view'), which is a somewhat odd genre in a way. However, I found that this works very well in this game. You are the leader of a small group of fighters. (You gain the ability to lead more of them as your experience - called 'charisma' here - raises). What really surprised me is that this is the first game where the whole team-based concept really works, because the AI controlled team members are actually helpful, yet still leave the player with enough to do. There is some truely great AI work here.

Another aspect that is really well done is the play-balance. I felt challenged throughout the whole game, yet I did not die very often. This provided a great experience for me. I managed to live through the story as the hero, and was able to do some awesome things. Sometimes I could barely make it out alive (especially since I paid close attention to getting all my people out as well), yet I pulled it off and felt a great sense of accomplishment without the usual video game feeling of trying again and again. This is also the first game I ever played where I didn't encounter a single frustrating spot, and I also never felt that I died because the game was unfair. Yet the game was still not easy at all. (Note: I played on the second-highest difficulty setting.)

On the downside, the game is not very long. For an experience based game like this, I do not mind that (I wouldn't want a movie to last 2 months either), but some people may not be fond of that. It took me a weekend to play through this. In fact, I could have probably done it in a long day of playing. Of course, the same is true for many action games these days.

The only real criticism is the save-game system. One can only safe at certain points in the level. One can go back and save more up to date scenarios (so it is not as bad as a "you reached this point" save system), but this is not completely satisfying. A quick-save-anywhere system should be standard these days. Luckily, the excellent play balance makes this a minor issue and it doesn't ruin the entire game. So no biggie.

Personally, I got much more satisfaction and fun out of Freedom Fighters then I got out of Call of Duty (for instance). People may call this short. Others may not find enough depth in this game. I disagree however. To me, this is one of the greatest surprises in a long time! In fact, this may be the first game ever, where I actually am interested in replaying some of the levels...

Summary: As good as any hyped up game
Review: This is what a pc game should be. It looks great, plays great, and the story is emmersive, and addictive. The really nice part about this is game is it looks just as good as any game out there with ridiculous requirements, and actually has very low requirements itself, reletively speaking. Some of the new games out there have extreme requirements, and the only thing about them that is different is the amount of cash you put into your system. The game is different from most shooters. The levels are intereconnected, and you can go back and forth from one to the other to complete specific tasks needed to complete others. I found the game to be challenging, and creative. A lot of the time you get the feeling you're actually there, fighting the commies. It involves a lot more planning, and strategy, then most shooters. As far as negatives go, the save system could use some improvement, but its not that bad. If you exit the game, you lose your quick save, this is a ptoblem. This game is definitley awesome, and as good as any hyped up shooter out there.

Summary: Best plumber since Mario
Review: Yes that's right, you're a New York plumber who gets caught in a war and grabs an AK47 off a soldier you hit with a wrench. So the major gripe of other reviewers, that your shooting is inaccurrate, makes perfect sense now doesn't it?

This game is an excellent squad-based tactical combat game. Yes you need to shoot, but you also need to think. There is almost always an indirect route to every objective that will save your life and the lives of your recruits. That makes this game a great blend of action, small scale strategy, and stealth too.

The AI for your recruits is terrific and they will duck when they see you duck, grab cover when an enemy opens fire, and shoot back to the best of their ability (remember, they're just average joes who found a gun too!) At lower difficulty levels the enemy troops use a dumbed down version of this same AI.

This game manages to create the realistic panic and frenetic activity of a battlefield as seen in films like Black Hawk Down, but in a middle ground. Medic packs heal gunshots instantly, but no one, not even the hero, is Rambo.

Summary: Beware
Review: Yes, I started off enjoying this game.

Unfortunately, there is no save game option except on manhole covers, so unless after an hour of play you run around back and forth to save on a manhole cover, you have to start again.

Graphics, smooth and beautiful except for the occasional hiccup which stays on your screen and pushing esc is a temp fix.

But after a while this game just gets mundane, I think to myself what is the point of this game?

If you like jumping over barrels then you will really like this game, if you want a little bit more then buy something else.
