Rating: Summary: a good strategy game for begginers Review: Hmmm, it seems quite a few people have alot to say about this one. I bought this title soon after it's release at the end of 99. I'd had the first AoE, and was disappointed with it, but Age Of Kings really made some good improvements. The idea of garrisoning is a really great addition, as well as the unique units. The graphics aren't stunning, but they are very good, and the gameplay is also good. Some knocks I've read on this were that it's just building up an army and attacking your opponent, therefore having not enough strategy. Well, wake up! That's the way pretty much every stratey game is, and if you want more fighting, or more details to your wars, try an rpg. Another was that, other than the unique units, pretty much there was just the same kinds of units. However, I think that there's a wide enough variety to make up for this discrepency, and alot more than most strategy titles out there. All in all, if you havn't been playing strategy games too long, this is a great one to buy. It isn't terribly difficult to learn (unlike other, more in depth titles, such as BraveHeart, which is a wonderful game, but very complicated) or even if you're a veteran to strat games, I highly recommend this one.
Rating: Summary: Awesome game Review: This is one of my favorite computer games around. The graphics are great, and the gameplay is terrific. I love all the different empires you can control, everything from British to Chinese. The strategy is much the same as the first installment of Age of Empires, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Lots of fun with this one.
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST games EVER! Review: This is one of the greatest computer games ever made IMHO. I LOOOOOVE this game. Who ever says this game is hard does not practice this game. And you need practice to be good at a game don't you? This game is very addictive and fun. Lots of big battles, and small, many strats to win, good graphics, and lots more. A must buy for strategy players. Someone said they could not beat it on moderate. Here's a tip. The comp usually makes one big attack, hold that off and you'll prolly win. Well, gettin kinda long. That's all for my review.
Rating: Summary: Fun but to hard to enjoy Review: This is a great game but I found it so hard that it became boring. I always lose on moderate. It's terrible.
Rating: Summary: Addictive Fun Review: The only other real-time strategy game I'd tried was Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far. I really enjoyed that one, and this one's almost as good. I have to say I really enjoy the early parts of the game the most, when you're making really tough decisions about division of labor. Later in the game, you're basically just building as big an army as possible (usually several times).
Rating: Summary: A great real-time experience Review: This is one of those games that's so good, it's addictive. It'll probably ruin every other area of your life, because you'll be stuck playing it for hours on end. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: One of the best of its genre, for what it's worth Review: This game has an unprecedented smooth performance and fairly elaborate format. All the efforts that one may put into building one's empire helps in making it feel realistic. However, so much work eventually forces the necessity of streamlining and compartmentalizing one's repetitive tasks thereby causing an inevitable decrease in interaction between player and tasks as one becomes a more powerful king. Like many similar empire/city/etc. building computer games, this streamlining of tasks leaves the player with little departure from repetition. And what random attacks and other battles that are fought are done with less than entertaining soldier animation.Still, these SIM-City-gone-Ancient-Times games are cool, especially when one has tired of the original and is looking for an interesting elaboration: build now with different rules, format and time/place theme. And unlike most of its predecessors, Age of Empires doesn't slap on the military section as if it was a second thought. Civilians and soldiers walk the same grounds as they carry on their tasks. This is what creates a smoother, more realistic look to the town, as all the animated townspeople and soldiers crowd onto the scene and actually interact with each other on command. Picture all these tiny figures simultaneously moving on the screen and one may begin to understand the inherent problem in games of this type. That is, just how much fun can it be to realistically rule over massive numbers of citizens and soldiers? In fact, the job is quite tedious. But that's what we like about these relatively mindless SIM city kinds of games, isn't it? I don't know. Somehow the SIM cities seem more realistic to me, and therefore more interesting. But this may just be a matter of taste. Try it. Maybe you'll like it more than I did, as so many others have.
Rating: Summary: The Best Strategy Game Ever Review: This is the best strategy game ever. It is perfect in every way. A review I read said the campains were impossible except for on easy, which is still difficult. The first time I played the campains, it was on hardest, but it was still fairly easy (in my opinion). The best part of the is the death match, and playing on MSN Gaming Zone. You should buy this game.
Rating: Summary: A great game! Review: This game is truly excellent and just falls short of a classic. It depicts the rise of various civilizations and the wars they go through. The graphics are excellent, the variety of units is excellent, and each civ actually provides a different feel and can cause a different playstyle to the game. The only downfall is slightly weak AI, with many of the enemy's men not grouping into formations and my own occassionally wandering off to attack houses while the enemy's Teutonic knights kill them. Other than that, this game is funa nd worthwhile to purchase.
Rating: Summary: Something to consider when purchasing Review: Just a bit of info for those intending to buy. I do not play this game at home because 32 MB RAM isn't enough to fight large battles or multiple team battles. Instead i play this one networked on the server at work. 32 MB RAM is the minimum you'll need if you want to do small battles with a minimum population. I have lost many hours sleep playing this game...
