Summary: LAN at last!
Review: Before I begin my praise, there's actually one major setback in comparison with MW 3: The controls are a wee bit to "arcade" like, e.g. imprecise. You can't cripple your enemy by blowing off arms or legs, that's not so good either. Now, that's all I have to critizise. All in all, this game is just amazing! As a great fan of MW3, I do greatly appreciate the better Multiplayer part- playing with just one single lance and without any "bots" in the third part was a little annoying. If you don't have a DSL Flat, get one! You'll want to play this on the net until you fall into deep torpor... ;)

Summary: I think the series has finally run out of steam
Review: Having played each MW game in the series including mechcommander, I am disappointed so far in the first 6 missions.

The terrain does look better than MW3, but I think some little touches are missing. I don't get the sense of piloting a heavy mech, it feel to much like an arcade. In MW3 you could blow off a leg or arm of an opponent, but in this game I have tried numerous times to blow off parts and nothing happens. You cannot blow up people that are running around, like in MW3.

Before each combat, a video will give you info about the mission, sorta like mechcommander did. Also pilots and techs will stop by between mission to give you advice about tactics and weapons, etc. This seems out of place. You are a decorated mechwarrior veteran of the clan wars. I find it hard to believe you would need any advise from less seasoned mechcommaders.

It seems to me they tried to make it easier or simplified for new players. By doing so I think it has lost the feeling of the other MW games.

I would still buy this game because of the subject, but I would wait a couple of months for the price to drop.

Summary: Great Game. Too Short Though.
Review: Over-all a cool game. Graphics are amazing. I bought all the previous versions and had a blast. This one is no exception. There was one drawback. The campaign is too short and easy. Once you salvaged some bigger mechs and used your lancemates it was a cakewalk. Only the last mission was a challenge. The multi-player feature saves it. Upgrade you internet connection because you will have many sleepless nights playing on the net.

Note to all of those trashing the new MechLab: as much as I loved loading up on er large pulse lasers and laying waste to my enemies in previous versions, the new lab brings an actual realism to the game. If it is a missle rack, put missles there. Whats wrong with that? If you can't handle the realism how good are you?

Summary: Microsoft kills yet another good game
Review: Don't even bother. MS seemed more interested in cutsey videos than improving the game. Earlier versions were good because they could be played effectively with a keyboard. Now it seems you need a MS force feedback joystick just to tromp around. What happened to the MLB's? This game elicits no emotions. I had trouble getting away from the MW3, but MW4 is already in the back of the drawer after two weeks. TOO Bad.

Summary: hmmm ... something not quite right
Review: I loved the old mech. games, and although this modern one is very much like them but with incredibly improved graphics, something does not seem quite right.

Something emotional is not there ... the old game was better, or perhaps because it was a new concept it was fresh and exciting.

I highly recommend you get a demo and play it to see if you like it, especially if you played the old mech.

PS: it is nearly impossible with a force feedback joystick, every step the mech takes wrenches the stick about, making it hard to hit a building let alone another mech!

Summary: Not what I expected
Review: This game is a complete disappointment from the other Mech games. The new mechlab takes away a players creativeness by restricting the weapons a mech can carry. The controls are completely hideous. The only thing about this game that catches my eye is the graphics.

If you are a returning Mechwarrior, looking for another great game, then I don't recommend this one. Microsoft has taken a great line of games and completely screwed it up.

Summary: beware of your processor
Review: Though I find the reviews of others to accurately describe game play and performance, there is one very big drawback to the programing- If you don't have a fast enough processor you will not get the performance. I've run this game on several systems and have found that many of the slower processors do not give the game the proper feel. Including 3 sec lockups. On the right system, this game is the cat's meow. It even rivals a playstation for the fluidity of play and is much more lifelike. C. Krajniak

Summary: Da' Bomb Game
Review: I've played all four Mech games but this is by far the best. it has lots of action, plenty of gameplay, and outstanding graphics. I recomend this game to everyone above ten years of age.

Summary: Ok games, but poor features
Review: Overall this game is OK, but don't listen to the Microsoft ads. The story line is good, the action is decent, but the game just dosen't live up to previous Mechwarrior games. The mech lab is horrible. The player can only exchange weapons of the same type(lasers to lasers, or missles to missles, but you can not replace an AC2 with a PPC, for example), so customization is frustrating and difficult. The acting is poor, and the opening scene is boring and uninspired. The mech selection is also poor, although the new mechs are ok.

Summary: Path to your Bloodright!!
Review: Mechwarrior 4 offers great graphics and excellent gameplay. The joystick interface has greatly been improved since MW3 (using a Microsoft Force Feedback Pro). However, the Mech Lab is not as good as it could have been; it lacks the control of MW3 and I couldn't make the Mech of my dreams. If you like mech combat games, this is one you need to buy.
