Review: This game is da bomb. It is the best mechwarrior game so far. even though it's pricy, it's worth the cost. The graphics are excellent and the gameplay is great. The only con I have for this game is that it is a huge game and takes up a lot of memory. This game is da bomb!

Summary: doesn't do justice to the MW series, MS, or games in general
Review: This game was a major disappointment for me. And I think that a lot of people who played MW3 will find it disppointing as well. The main problem I have with this game is the controls. I see people saying "oh, they have really simplified the controls!" but is that a good thing? No. Anyone who was thrilled as I was at the endless customization possible in the controls for MechWarrior 3 will be sorely disappointted at mw4. And anyone who prefers to play games like this with a keyboard/mouse setup will be disappointed. The game has added nuances that should be improvements over the previous installments, but fall short. It is almost like they spent too much time on appearance and not enough time on playability.

Specific problems I find with the controls are the way the 'Mechs turn. It is much more difficult to aim while turning in mw4 than in the previous versions. This makes using a stick that much more important. But the problem with using a stick is that it makes also using a mouse or trackball difficult. Since it is hard to aim with a stick, and it is hard to aim turing with a keyboard, you must forget everything that you used in mw2 and mw3 and "learn to pilot a 'mech all over again." In addition, certain controls can only be set up for certain things. This is different from mw3 in which you could set up any controller axis for any "analog" control... for example, if you wanted to set a control stick up/down to walk forward/backward, you could. If you wanted to reverse that axis, you could. MW4 lacks flexability.

I do not mind using a stick so much to make the game playable, but a stick has nowhere near as many buttons as the keyboard, so having everything at your fingertips is a thing of the past.

And one more thing: people say the graphics are so much better, but i do not see it. The 'mechs, buildings, etc, are in fact uglier to me than they were in MW3.

pros: (i can find little about this game that i would consider improvement over MW3, but i will try...)
-new 'mechlab setup makes 'mechs less customizable, but should reduce the "boating" so prevelant in previous versions
-weapons seem very balanced, perhaps over-balanced, which should produce more variety in configs from player to player
-lag is less of an issue, and "lag-shooting" is no longer necessary
-now have nightvision, but it sucks compared to the thermo vision in mw2
-no more worries about legging
-self-destruct and eject are now options

cons:
-opponents can now see what 'mechs you are bringing in multiplayer
-there is no "team chat" in multiplayer before the game is launched
-keyboard/mouse controls almost unusable
-controls not nearly as customizable as mw3 or even mw2
-game storyline is not nearly as interesting as mw2 or mw3
-graphics require a god-like agp to run (such as GeForce 2 or Radeon-this is not so bad now, but when the game was first released?)
-no more mfb's (there are, however, stationary repair bays)
-lancemate AI is still bad-they get stuck behind builings in city maps
-colors of weapons slots in the mechlab could cause annoyance for colorblind players (red for energy weapons, green for missile weapons)
-'mechs have internal structure, but the entire internal structure is connected. therefore, you cannot destroy a leg (or arm) until you destroy the entire internal structure of the mech. Unfortnately, this makes it easier to destroy a 'mech by shooting through the lighter armored parts.
-'mechs blow up no matter how they are destroyed (often quite annoyingly... since when do 'mechs explode after a clean head shot or a legging?)
-I could go on.

If you loved mw2 but were disappointed with mw3, you will probably love this game. but if you loved mw3, definitely play the demo first. You stand a good chance of tossing this game out the nearest window in frustration.

Summary: Mech Warrior 4: Pros & Cons
Review: Mech Warrior 4 is a real improvement over Mech Warrior 3, with better special effects, a new Mechlab, and easy handling, especially with the Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick, which I have. Firing different weapon groups is useful for volleys, and firing certain weapons together, eg. a Med. Laser and a Sm. Laser together. The new mechs in it(there are 7,) really add to the game. Now you need new strategies to help you defeat never-before seen mechs.

Unfortunately, it needs a LOT of space on your hard drive. I think that you could load about 3 other games instead of installing it.

If you liked The previous Mech games, you will definitely like this.

Summary: A good gaming experience
Review: I finally got to sit down and install then play Mechwarrior 4:Vengeance.

I liked playing the last two incarnations of this game, Mechwarriors 2 and 3, and this game is a lot of fun too. The game play is pretty much the same: You pilot a 40 ft. tall walking tank, called a "Battlemech", where you stomp through different environments, blowing away anything that gets in your way in order to complete different missions. This whole concept started off as a board game, believe it or not, by a company called FASA (now out of business - boo-hoo) a long time ago.

Now you get the full sensory effect. Published by Microsoft, this version of Mechwarrior is more plot driven than the others. You play the nephew of a powerful duke, who returns to his home world from the Clan Wars to find it occupied by a rival noble family. Your hop back into your BattleMech and fight to free your home world. The graphics are great and the game is loaded with decent cut-scenes that help move the plot along. Your mech no longer lumbers along but really boogies down the road at a good clip. This makes piloting the mech a daunting task at times but it is a little easier thanks to the re-worked user interface. Also, you can interact with your environment in different ways: stomping people, tanks and small buildings instead of shooting them up all the time. I am able to play the game enjoyably using a joystick-keyboard combination but you can also use a mouse if desired. I found it to be a pretty good BattleMech simulation experience; playing this game does require a good amount of concentration.

However, it is a Microsoft game so it took a long time to install, and you need a decent machine to play Mechwarrior 4. It hasn't crashed on me but it does lag in spots.

Summary: how it works
Review: The game is the best yet that FASA has worked together with battletech to create. The voice in part are a little humorous and the missions can be a little choppy. The option for ejecting from the mech has become nonexistant any more. The weapons are better and worse cause the game play with them is limited. All of this boils down to an awsome graphics monster and a one on one toe to toe heavy metal battle field expirence that still has time to make it a family thing. In all I think its great but still has its flaws.

Summary: Alright
Review: This game's graphics are awesome. They're some of the best I have seen. But the "con" too that is the system requirments to run it, I have a P3 650 MHZ with a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI and 128 SDRAM even with that I could only run at medium graphics. The story line is alright, revenge and vengence is good enough for me. The controls are easy to remember to that makes the game easier to learn. Overall I give it 4 stars due to the system requirments.

Summary: good game, Horrible storyline
Review: This game is sweet with a forcefeedback joystick. Its classic Mechwarrior fighting, and the multiplayer is excellent. The downside is, the campaign is really really bad. Everyone in the storyline is a wuss, and you will learn to hate each and every charactar. The campaign is not true to mechwarriar and it gets just plain old annoying. Still the game is fun, and the graphics are excellent. Probably not a good idea on a slow machine! Overall, excellent game, horrible storyline. Good hunting!

Summary: the worst game of the year
Review: I bought mechwarrior4 and started playing the training phase and that's where I realized the mistake of buying this game.If you use a SideWinder joystick you'll find that the throttle does not work as it did in the previous mech games,and there is little you can customize even when you get a clan mech,what's the deal?As you progress into the game you find yourself going against 4-5 mechs with two dunerheads for lancemates that might shoot you as well as the enemy. Fire control is pretty much a loss,and the targeting almost as bad,if I could talk to the makers of this I would ask them what they where thinking,it is really to bad that the games came to this end I have all the mechwarrior game and this one is the worst.

Summary: a dam good game if i ever saw one
Review: the cadilac of mechwarrior games. if only they kept the names of the original mechs like the mad cat was called the timber wolf, the vulture which was the mad dog, the loki was originaly the hell bringing, i just wish they kept the old clan names that they started with. but any who this game has crazy good graphics, almost to easy to learn controls, (i kinda miss having to you the entire key board to drive my mech) your lance mates get better with more experience with is great, your salvage is what you use in the next missions. the plot is the best mechwarrior plot i've seen so far. this is like the beginers game if you want to play all the mechwarrior games. this is still a 5 star game.

Summary: I . . . Can't believe it.
Review: This game disappointed me. I was psyched up for something really sweet after MW-3, and instead, I got this arcade-like game. So here's my list...

Pro: (1) Remarkable graphics - Heh, MW3 was a bit ... messed up in places. (2) Short control-learning time - good for newbies, but I really miss some of the functionality of the old system.

Con: (1) Controls are imprecise - and don't even think of using a force feedback joystick... (2) For the life of me, I can't disable limbs. (3) The storyline isn't well thought out. For example; lessor techs come by and give you basic info. If some sub-ranking tech talked to a superiour like that, they'd be dead (in the series). (4) Networked play just isn't as much fun for me with this version - I think primarily because of the second "Con". (5) Eats processors alive. MW3 could run - albiet at a low resolution - on a Pentium 166. MW4 has trouble on my low end system even at low resolutions. (Pentium 3, 600MHz, Voodoo 3)...
