Review: I have read a number of 4-star reviews that really ought to be 3-star at best. The concept of the game is spot on, but the delivery is very weak. Especially with tanks and artillery, it is VERY hard to hit anything. I am usually "dead" before I can adjust, and even that is a guess because the graphics do not display depth very well. And then there is the problem with the sniper ("scout") option, where you fire one shot, lose the scope and have to re-load before you can see if you hit anything. While all this might be an attempt at "realism" it is, ultimately, only frustrating.

Review: I see a lot of one star reviews here and I think those people are justified in their complaints. But seriously, this game wasn't made for a grand single-player campaign, it was meant to be played online. Frankly, I thought Medal of Honor was great, BUT could you fly a plane in MOH? I think not. Could you control the main battery of a battleship in MOH? I think not. Yes, there is lag, but well, if you play with AI bots, your computer has to control them as well as control the environment and vehicles, so there's a lot there for your processor to handle. I was surprised to see lag on my P4 1.8ghs but well, so what? You tune down the AI or decrease the number of bots, or you GO ONLINE! I found the game highly enjoyable and only get mad when some sniper that I don't even know about puts a shot into me at some unbelievable range, but well, war isn't the fun thing we've been led to believe...

Summary: BATTLEFIELD 1942 - NOT WORTH IT!
Review: I had very high hopes for EA Games new FPS called Battlefield 1942. I loved Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for the PC and Medal of Honor: Frontline for the Playstation 2. In fact Medal of Honor: Allied Assault is my favorite FPS, and has great multiplayer functionality. However, Battlefield 1942 does not compare. I installed Battlefield 1942 on a Pentium 4 XP machine, 2.2 GHZ processor, and 512 MB of ram. The single player levels took almost 2 minutes to load, and it takes approximately 30 seconds to respawn after being killed in the game. These are VERY LONG load times. And the multiplayer gaming is worse. Not only does it take a very long time to load the game, even if you playing on a server with very low pings, the game is extremely laggy. The AI is not that great, and game takes every available resource your computer has to spare. If you have a regular off the shelf type PC, you will not enjoy this game. However, If you are running a monster server with tons of RAM, you may be able to play it. Save your money, or buy Medal of Honor: Allied Assault instead.

Review: First off it's a bit clunky... not just in game which can be laggy and jerky even on fast machines (P4-2ghz, Athlon 1900) with good connections (DSL) but just hitting esc to get to the options menu takes an atrociously long time sometimes. Level loads are among the slowest ever.Single player: Bot AI is pathetically useless when it comes to driving vehicles and a little too good (or at least too quick) when it comes to aiming. Single player is very HARD, IMO. Nit Picks: Respawn time should be adjustable at least in single player mode. If there is only one spawn point left it SHOULD BE SELECTED AUTOMATICALLY! In fact if you don't select a spawn point one should probably be selected for you. There are bugs in the control configuration interface. Some combinations aren't possible (Space for next weapon in addition to mwheel up/down, for one) When displaying who killed who it's difficult to tell which one was on your team because the same color text is used for both names. There is alot going on in this game... perhaps too much except for the most dedicated of gamers. Definitely needs polish. It's impressive but I think I'll be going back to MOH and TrueCombat for now.

Summary: Best Game In Years!
Review: I have recentlly become a fan of the FRS. I have long been a World War 2 enthusiast. I have been waiting for a RTS WW2 game to surface but, it hasn't happened to my satisfaction yet. Battlefield 1942 is awesome. The graphics are KILLER I will be playing it for months to come. Buy this game, you will not be disappointed.
p.s. Amazon has the best price. Buy it here I paid [price] more, somewhere else.

Summary: Addictive Gameplay!!! Be Prepared for WAR!
Review: I bought this game a week ago and Im suprised that Im here writing this review and not playing! First things first. If your looking for a multiplayer/first-person shooter thats about blowing up tanks, shooting down planes, and stabbing your enemies in the back then buy this one. Multiplayer is the gem of this package, in my opinion. Using teamwork against to take over positions on the battlefield and using several different weapons to do so, and up to 64 players at the same time. You can jump into a tank, airplane, or even a submarine!! Or, snipe a soldier from the top of a hill, or drop landmines on an airfield. ...

Summary: Battlefield FLOP!!
Review: Bought the game the day it was released with eager anticipation given all the hipe. I'm a loyal fan of Meddle of Honor so I thought I couldn't go wrong given EA was behind the development. Big dissapoinment! Gameplay lagged, game detail looked rushed and unpolished, there was no sense of nostalgia that the Meddle of Honor series engendered and the campaigns were poorley conceived and developed. My advice: save your money and wait for the Meddle of Honor expansion due out in November. Battlefield 1942 is a big flop!!

Summary: Warning on requirements
Review: The one star is the lowest I could go, but a "0" would be appropriate. As an e-mail from Tech Help told me after I found all the opening control screens were filled with rectangular blocks rather than text, the game is "very demanding" (i.e., it was poorly developed), and will support only AT/Radeon, NVIDIA GEForce, and Matrox Parhela video cards. Don't waste your money if you haven't got one of these cards.

Summary: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Review: The Good. I'm an engineer in the U.S. Army on Guadalcanal in the midst of 32 players duking it out over each team's flag. There are Axis players everywhere (Japanese in this case). One of them has my team's flag and is booking it up the coast road in a TANK. What chance do I have to save the day and keep our flag? I'm just schmuck with a bolt-action rifle. Wrong. I hightail it over to the road, plant an explosive pack, and hide in the nearby trees. When that tank rolls by, BLAM!, I'm a hero with a flag. The Bad. Lag is terrible at times, especially with many players on the screen. Nothing is worse than carefully drawing your crosshairs down on some scumbag only to have him disappear and reappear 10 feet to the right of you. The Ugly. Players can be unruly, as with all online gaming, and it is typically no place for kids. Filthy language spewing from other players is the norm. On one particularly bad occasion, other players on the server began trading racially charged insults about black and jewish people. The official EA servers say they will kick anyone who cusses, teamkills, etc. Don't buy it, I haven't seen it happen yet. Don't let your kids multiplay on this one alone, its like a chat room, only with guns.

Summary: Great WW2 game
Review: Battlefield is one of the only games around these days that allows you to fly in planes, drive tanks, and dive in submarines, and still fight as infantry. Its pretty great. There are a few bugs in the game, but those should be worked out before long I imagine. This is definately worth the purchase.
