Summary: MTW is so great, I can't stay awake.....
Review: It's pretty tough keeping my eyes open at the office after staying up to play Medieval: Total War. I keep telling myself, "One more turn, then I'm going to bed." Next thing I know, 3 hours have passed and I have to worry about when my alarm is going to go off.

With the tutorials and the included instructions, one can pretty easily play the strategy component of the game. For the battle component, I recommend picking up the strategy guide. It explains in depth the different types of troops as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Come to think of it, it's pretty darn helpful with the stretegy game too, explaining the technology tree and the role of strategic agents.

In short, pick this game up. You won't regret it.

Summary: oh yeah
Review: all right first of all i have no idea why anybody would rate this game a 1 star. what do you mean it doesn't work on labtop? i have a one-year old labtop and it works great. and the freeze-ups? my god, if your gonna play a game get a real computer, not some [junky] apple. its gotta have some guts. i mean, this game couldn't be farther from bad. the immersion is so deep, so real. strategy wise, this is better than any other game i've seen. and don't tell me im not a serious gamer. ill make you eat those words online. so stop underrating this. "i'd really give it negative five, but..." shut up! you want a real game, this is the thing to get. ciao. peace:)

Summary: Buy this game ... and then get the patch
Review: This game is simply amazing in its scope and is a must for anyone interested in strategy, political gamesmanship and history -- it is not, however, for anyone who is solely interested in "hack and slash" instant gratification or for a quick and certain victory against a computerized opponent.

A byproduct of the excellent level of detail throughout the game is that it makes for a very long game. Let's face it, directing the efforts of your armies, building your empire's infrastructure, dealing with untrustworthy foreign powers and worrying about the pitfalls of hereditary succession can be a time consuming process.

However, the game is still eminently playable thanks to a turn based system that makes it easy to put the game aside for a couple of days (if you can stand to be gone that long) without completely losing track of what you were doing. All in all this is the best strategy/war/empire building game I've seen.

As a final note, the technical problems mentioned by other reviewers have been solved by the availability of a patch --it's an 8.8 meg download ...

Summary: Truly Amazing Game
Review: Medieval Total War is a fantastic game, I never played its predecessor, however I was blown away by its graphics and epic battles. The system requirements are rather steep and the unit facing is confusing, but I would highly reccomend this game.

Summary: Just one word to describe it: Addictive
Review: This is an excellent game, boy if you really hook into it you are going to find yourself spending entire nights at your pc playing Shogun Total War Warlord Edition, because it doesn't include only Shogun Total War, but also the Mongol Invasion pack (so thats the reason for the "warlord edition" name), the gameplay is excellent and the graphics are really good, it even includes a tutorial so you can practice your battle skills, (it lacks however a tutorial for the "role play" part, but it's really easy to "know how" if you read the electronic manual first), you will have the chance to select between 7 clans, each one has it's own advantages and disadvantages, but just one word Uesugi ;).

It works well under windows 2000, but you really need a video card with 8 MB of video memory if you want to enjoy the best graphics avaliable, don't worry if you have a pc with integrated graphics it can run in "software mode" (assuming you have at least 4 MB as shared video memory in your PC).

By the way there is an update avaliable at TotalWar web site that fixes some minor issues.

If you are really into strategy games, you MUST buy this one.

P.s. Don't trade with the portuguese, better wait for the dutch.

Summary: Europa Universalis Its not
Review: I was expecting something like Europa Universalis meets Age of Empires. What I got was something 10 times better than aoe and thousands of times better than Europa Universalis. But its really not comparable to other games (I never played its predecessor). Other games should be compared to this one.

But why I'm writing this review is more a response to some previous reviews. Not the 5 reviews. This game is definately a 5.
But the 0 reviews. Come on people. Heres my response to those zeroes you see...

Realism: I've never seen better in 16 years of gaming.

Gameplay: The AI in this game is the best I have seen yet. Is it perfect? No. Can it be improved? yes. But where is there better?

Crashs: I'm with you here. I can see where somebody who can't get the game to run acceptably and can't get decent support can give the game a zero. BUT I'm here to tell you that if your computer can run this game, its 5 star heaven. If your computer doesn't run this game, it is worth every cent for you to buy a new computer that will run it. Simple as that.

Graphics: I have a laptop that was top of the line last year as far as memory, cpu and graphics card. And its a Dell. The game runs and LOOKS GREAT on this laptop! Like I said previously, if your computer doesn't display great graphics when playing this game, go out and buy one that does.

Bugs: Yes it has some bugs. But nothing that would drop the game a single point. I'm gonna hope we get a patch.

Most annoying game trait: Unit facing is too hard. I have yet to master it after 30 hours of game play. I hate it when my archers I thought were facing the enemy are really facing to the rear. (but this problem may be a user problem in my case)

Favorite game activities:
1. Sending lots of spies into a "friendly country" to cause a revolt.
2. Fighting huge peasant armies with Knights, pikemen and longbows.
3. And the best: Using "follow projectiles" with catapults.

Wish List:
1. Factor in age of leader to start deteriorating his skills.
2. Get rid of the dialog boxes that tell of events and put the events in a scrollable list that will show more info when you click on a line.
3. Give more info on Kingdoms and provinces and battle summaries. Sometimes its hard to figure out who owns what you are about to destroy (or marry).
4. Improve unit facing commands for us those of us who can't seem to get it right.
5. Fix the bugs so everybody will stop with the zero ratings!

Summary: FUUUN
Review: This game is extremely fun to play. You can have a HUGE army and fight more HUGE armies in a tottaly realistic battle. You can send ninjas to kill Generals, or emmiseries(messengers) and more. You can do a LOT of stuff in this game.
The only problem is that the graphic requirement is tottaly high. I have a Rage PRO 32 Mega bytes graphics card, and in a battle with 3000 people fighting, teh screen moves slower and skips some images. I really hate that.
But you don't have such big battles a lot, so you can live with it. Anyways, the game is really, really fun to play. I play this game more than UNREAL TOURNAMENT. It is just fun.

GET THIS GAME, YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Summary: The Best of the best of the best!!!
Review: Just 5 minutes ago my brother'sfriend was over, and he played Shogun for 4 hours straight! He never gets bored of it. When he comes over he says "Let's play Shogun"!Even my friend is adicted to it. If you despise violence you would still love this game. You can even control the battles yourself. A cool thing you can do is play over the internet with your friends. So buy Shogun:Total War!!

Summary: Medieval Total War (Kicks ...)
Review: Medival Total War is the best game i have played since starcraft it to me is better than warcraft three unless ur looking for good multi player. Medival is staged in Medival Eroupe. It starts from the around 1000 and goes to about 1400. I have now had it since sept. I have yet to beat it but i have tried out three diffrent teams so far. Spain is probably one of the best to play as for newbs becuase it has a very good starting spot. The Danes are also good but they are not very strong and have trouble building up cash. Other than that it is also good for newbs. Byzantine Empire so far has been my favorite. they start out pretty strong with lots of cash but the begining is troubling but if you survive then the whole future is yours so far in my game i own just about 1/3 of all of eroupe and i have caused the down fall of about 5 nations. The whole game is all stragety.

The game runs on a turn bases but it has some cool new effects that shogun did not have. one is the many new units and cool seige weapons. Also castle seiges are more fun then ever. The map is huge and there is no start in one spot and go to the other side. also a new thing are the boats which allow u to trade to get money and also allow u to attack any non-protected coast (meaning a area of water without an enemy boat). Also there are some new only board units and bonuses such as new traits that generals can have like runner or Drunk that can lower health or influence how your troops fight and now generals have traits that describe them such as loyalty, acumen, peity just to name a few. Also princesses that help form strong alliances.

Other than the cool new board abilities and awsome action the real time stragety is awsome. It is very realistic and the weather and terrian beat any game i have ever played. The fighting is awsome and the hole game play will keep you continuesly coming back for more. If u get it injoy! u will love every aspect of it!

Summary: Terrible, terrible, terrible waste of time
Review: I would rate it zero stars, but there is no such option. Just as you are about to conquer the world, almost every single provence revolts. Even if you have two spies in every provence. Any loyalty of above 150. Even if the enemy king is 78 years old, and all of his fellow horse men have been killed, he can rout 240 archers that have him surrounded, then kill your 30 something year old king and his three fellow knights. The game has internal logic but it stacks the odds against you in ways that are oddly illogical. It is just a frustrating game.
