Summary: Don't miss it.
Review: I've played Shogun:total war and was obsessed in it. Medieval total war is a successful successor. Two factors make this game great:

1.Morality of soldiers, formation and weak/strong relationships between different troops make this game more realistic than any competitors.

2.The separation of strategy game and RTS game. Instead of mining and building troops while you are battling (like starcraft, AOE), you have a different world map interface to produce troops and collect your money. This eliminates the bad tendency in most RTS games of becoming a competion of who build faster.

Summary: And you thought you liked Civilization! Wow!
Review: Where Civilization (plus all it's sequels and rivals) have failed (and they have) - Medievil: Total War suceeds with an addictive game. Example #1: In Civ, I always dreaded when my populations became unhappy, because it was ridiculouosly difficult to sooth them (do I hire an entertainer??). In MTW, most happiness is based on the tax rate (very low, low, normal, high, very high) and later on the leader's (that's you) religion versus the population you lead. Example #2: In Civ, micro-managing each city through the SAME purchases became a nightmare. In MTW, the creators have made city management both - interesting and simple. If you want an enjoyable super-intuitive strategy game - buy this game! Strategy game of the year!

Summary: At the TOP of my list.
Review: You are the leader of a nation to conquer the world. You decide where to spend your money, you decide who will be your allies and enemies, you decide how to treat your civilians, and you decide how to attack and defend with your army, which you have created within minutes, yet years have since passed. You send your daughter out to marry some bum you've never met before out of greed and security, you order assassins to kill the leaders of the intimidating army, and you order a troop of cavalry to hide in the trees only to await the perfect time to surprise the enemy from behind. If you like strategy and control...If you want to play a different game other than those Age of Empires and Warcraft like renditions, this is perfect for you. You will not be disappointed whatsoever.

Summary: One of the best Games now better
Review: I've always enjoyed the Shogun Games and this new one is no exception. It has very cool military tactics, and several combinations of battle set-ups. For example you can play up to seven different clans. Each with different locations and advantages, also you can select from three different time period with different technology advances, and lastly you have the Mongol invasion. It is a real barbarian blast.

If you enjoy good military turn-based strategy games I think you'll like this one.

Summary: Medieval Total War
Review: This is a great game following in the footsteps of Shogun Total War. It combines all the best of Shogun with many new features such as unit sizes are now determined by the amount of armor or resources needed for each type of unit instead of having everything be the same size and the use of governors. This series may become one of the best series out there. It certainly has the potential to be. The only two things i can hope for are for the release of a GunAge Total War and maybe a board game for the strategic level of either game that you could then play the board game and resolve your battles with the actual Shogun tactical game instead of dice.

Summary: update
Review: i reviewed this before and gave it only one star because i couldn't get the game to work. i exchanged it, and it works great now. almost too great. you'll play it all day, then go to sleep thinking about it. then wake up to beat your sig. other to the computer so you can spend all day crushing the rest of the world.

Summary: Don't buy it if you want to run it on a laptop
Review: Like the rest of these reviews mention, make sure you have a serious machine before you buy this.

Looked great and assumed because Shogun ran on my laptop this would too. Bad assumption. Activision help desk informed me that there currently are NO graphic cards on laptops that can handle this game. Too bad.
