Summary: Great, but a dissapointment compared to Fallout 2
Review: I personally found this game good, even fun. However, when I bought it I was hoping for less combat and more Fallout. Fallout 2 is one of the three supreme RPGs for computer. The other two are Baldur's Gate 2, and Torment (which is the best game out there). It lacks the actual ROLE-playing, and is more of a combat game. Don't get me wrong- I love combat games, and I loved this one. I mean, the ability to drive a nuke carrier, a tank, an APC, weild a minigun the size of your entire body, spurt a flame pistol, and beat the crap out of robots is fun, but it is different from what I expected. THIS IS NOT A ROLE PLAYING GAME. This is, however, a highly sophisticated combat squadron game. The biggest problem? AI. None. I could lie down and snipe out every guard, even ones 10 feet away or so, and not be noticed! While using an AK-47! Annoying, but still... a fun game. A big plus is that you can lie down, crouch, sneak, even climb those ladders that were previously just there for looks! Very cool. You can stand on top of patrol towers, crawl under elevated platforms, and do tons of other intersting things.

Over all, a good use of your money, though there are better ones. Ultimately, in the top five for squadron combat games.

The reason I gave it four out of five stars was that sometimes, sometimes, the missions repeated themselves, so that I did the same thing over and over again. Oh, one thing- DON'T play on Tough Guy!!!

Summary: The best review
Review: Let me start off by saying that I would have given this game 4 1/2 stars, but that wasn't an option. Now I guess I'm supposed to write a review for this game, huh? So, should I start with the fact that it's the only game that I would even think of playing through more than once? I play all the games like Diablo 1&2 and Baldur's Gate 1&2 that you are supposed to play through more than once (more than twice even), and I just find that boring. Then this awesome game called Fallout Tactics comes along and ruins my whole philosophy of playing games once and forgeting about them. Unfortunately for the makers of this game, it didn't really appeal to the Fallout 1&2 fans because it was a tactical combat game, and it didn't apppeal to other people because of the "Fallout" name. It got great reviews by everyone who played it, but not that many people gave it that chance. What is really cool about this game is that it is like an RPG without all the talk and desicion making. Other than that, every thing from character creation to the fighting to the options of items to buy and sell is all based on RPGs. I think that makes this game a lot of fun to play. In another review it was mentioned that it might not be good for people who haven't play RPGs before. Well, I never played any RPGs before I bought it (I started buying games from that genre after I played this game) , and I'm willing to say that this has got to be the best game that I've ever played. The only problem that I've ever had with this game is that the huge maps sometimes create some lag when trying to move the screen. But them again, I'm using an outdated 32MB graphics card on my computer. Also, there is one bug that continuously has interrupted the game, causing me to have to return to the last place I saved (I'm not one of those people that "saves often"). So, to sum up this review, buy this game, have fun, and save often. Later, man.

Summary: Good if you are a fan of Fallout
Review: When I first heard that this game was comeing out, I was in heaven. The Fallout Series is a unique, yet fun gameing experience that everyone should have atleast once. This game is not one that is beatable in a short amount of time. The options they give you in everything you do make this game alot of fun, EVERY time. The conversion from full RPG to half RPG and half Squad Based War Strategy was rather awkward at first, but became rather comfortable later on. The story line is a little strange, but the missions are alot of fun. Combat is VERY customizable, so for those of you who like Real Time Stratagy (Starcraft, C&C, etc) games, you can make it that, and for those of us who like Turn Based (Fallout 1&2)... you can do that too. In my opinion, this is a one of a kind game, and a must have for a fallout fan(though a little buggy right out of the box... be sure and download the upgrades). Over all I was very impressed with this installment in the Fallout series, and would offer this to anyone who like stratagy games and RPG's

Summary: War never changes, but Fallout does...
Review: I was a big fan of the earlier series, but I almost passed on this game because I didn't think it would be as good. Was I wrong? Yes and no.

Fallout Tactics is a Fallout game, but only visually. It stands by itself as an eminently playable strategy game, thankfully with the familar turnbased combat system from the old games. And because it devotes itself far more to combat, it does this exceptionally well. No longer do you have to worry about your allies chewing you up with a gun on burst mode, because you control them all, and can position them so you need not fear friendly fire. Moreover, you control all their skills and pick their perks, making your squad into a well-oiled fighting machine capable of bypassing any obstacle with specialists trained in the non-combat skills you'll need now and again. You even get to drive vehicles in this game, complete with jeeps, APCs and tanks.

I did not find it as linear as some other reviewers did: there are some goodies that you will find on certain missions if you poke around besides just trying to complete the objective. Plus, the 'back way in' that the mission map provides you with is not always unguarded. Ofttimes, a little strategy can go a long way in giving you options for your assault. And, as always, Fallout's creators inject FT with that brand of humor we veterans have come to know and love. On a side note, what impressed me most was the fact that they actually dared to use extremely graphic language in FT, which I applaud if only because it shows the game's designers have guts. :}

If we just stop there, FT shines on its own merit. Yes, it does take away some of the playability because there are no dialogue trees to navigate. Yes getting those goodies I mentioned earlier will often not change your next objective, nor give you a new objective that would not have been availiable to you otherwise. In some ways, FT is like your average action movie: it's good as long as you consider it within its own limitations. But within those limitations, Fallout Tactics shines brightly.

Summary: Fun game but...
Review: It's full of crash bugs.

If you have played the prvious two Fallout's, you will really like the changes made in Tactics. The 3dish aspect is much welcomed and the strategic style fighting rather than turn based (although you can turn on the turn based) makes the game much more exciting.

The worst part is, 5 out of 10 times of starting the game, I get booted to my desktop and have to try again. Sometimes I have to reboot my computer due to hard lockup's. While my computer may not be configured EXACTLY right, I do not have these problems with many of my games (and I play them all).

Summary: Lots of fun
Review: This game made me think through every move carefully, weighing the possible consequences. Imagine chess played with soldiers in a post-Apocalytic urban wasteland. Lots of blood and salty language. Note that my version would not load on Windows ME! Perhaps there has been a patch by now, but be sure to check.

Watch out for the drugs. They really enhance your performance, but my character became addicted after one use.

I did not play the game all the way through. By the time I got to the first mission with a vehicle, it had become too repetitive. But I normally don't play games to the end, anyway. I don't have enough time, and there are so many good ones waiting.

Summary: Great Game
Review: Some people don't like this game because it is very different from fallout 1 or 2. But think about it. Fallout 1 and 2 were made by Black Isle and Fallout Tactics was made by Interplay. I personally think this game is better than both Fallout 1 and 2. Remember, if you think this is anything like an RPG you're wrong. I didn't think I'd like this game, but when I borrowed it from a friend totally got hooked to it. This is a game that actually takes skill. That is why I love it.

Summary: Fun but unambitious
Review: This is a fun game but it is pretty unambitious. The combat system is basically the same as in the original RPGs, and the fact that it works so well is a testament to those games. The most important thing that was added was the ability to duck and crawl which I think is the game's best feature, but is fairly standard in games of this type.

The other big plus to the game is the Fallout universe. The post-apocalyptic world is in many ways like the Wild West with better guns. The different factions like the BOS and the Master's Army, are interesting and bring their own story to the game. There's really no doubt that there was room in the Fallout universe for a strategy game.

But the designers were pretty lazy on content. The story is just an excuse to change the BOS around and get them out of California. It's not terrible if you don't take it too seriously but Fallout fans will have come to expect more than that. Everyone's dialogue is pretty lame too. But the real negative is the maps. They are pretty poorly put together in that most are purely linear. They "funnel" you so you have to face everybody in order. So basically -- there's not a whole lot of tactics involved. There's really no excuse for this at all but poor design.

Overall, it's a decent game, but not a must have by any means. Good if you have some money and a few late nights to waste.

Summary: It's Not Fallout 1 or 2
Review: I you are looking for the storyline of Fallout 1 and 2, then you got the wrong game. It's based on the Fallout games, but group combat is the focus here.

Great game.

Summary: Not exciting
Review: I played both Fallout 1 and 2, and although I knew that fallout tactics would be different, I don't really like it that much: I wasn't really excited while playing, I was bored by the plot, and I think money I spent for this game are not worth it.
