Summary: Games crashes and is unplayable
Review: Even though my system more than meets the requirements, and even though I have downloaded and installed the patches, SimCity 4 persistantly crashes. I haven't been able to play the game for more than 5 minutes without a crash. And tech support has been slow to help.

Review: wazz up fellow gamer, this game the highlite for about a week. untill i found out that it left me with a little bit of memory. i tried to download a game. my computor told me that o didn't have enouth memmory. i had to redo all my old files that sim city 4 delated to be playable. i sold it to my friend who claims that my computor is slow, but i don't think that was the problem.the game itself is fun. but make sure your hardrive has enough memmor to hold this large game. hope this heped in advance. maxis good game. but takes up a lot of memmory.

Review: Hello fello gamers. I love sim games a lot. This one takes up a lot of memmory on your computor. I had a 5 games on my computor. SC4 made me get red of them all. The game is fun but make sure you have a good hardrive.

Summary: A little disappointed
Review: Sim City 4 A Great, and the only, city simulation game for the computer. This latest installment boasts the best graphics and special effects in the series, as well as more detail in the area of micromanagement. The Good: Graphics, sound, music, dynamic visualizations, disasters The Bad: Awful terrain editing machine, railroads do not operate properly, streets and railroad tracks cannot bridge over each other or cross at odd angles on the city grid (although this problem should be corrected in Rush Hour), seaports and rail connections are a pain to get working properly, city areas are much smaller than in previous versions. Overall a great game, but not much better than Sim City 3.

Summary: Nice Upgrade / Needs Work
Review: To find out what the game is about read the Amazon.com review above. I am just opining as a seasoned player here. I have been playing SimCity since it first came out. Each evolution has made significant advances in both look and performance, and this version is no exception to that. I appreciate the level of detail, the complexity of the simulation engine, and the overall performance of the game. The problem lies in the pre-release hype that was inaccurate or at least highly misleading. Maxis / Electronic Arts promised much during the months leading up to the (delayed) release of this game. They promised increased control over traffic (such as timing lights at consecutive intersections - to be released in their expansion pack, SimCity4: Rush Hour). I will not list all of the items that were touted before release here, but suffice to say that it seems the game was not ready for release. A significant case in point was the patch that was released about a month after the game shipped. I have a fast machine, so I have not had the problems of hanging and freezing that others have had. Having read of many other gamers who HAVE had many problems with performance tells me that we should not expect to have any more expansion packs for SimCity 4. In my opinion, the good folks at Maxis / EA need to redesign the graphics programming so that it performs better with more modest machines.

Summary: a little slow, as cities get bigger
Review: I love the game. Every version has been a vast improvement. Region play is a huge plus for me. Not enough region terrain to choose from. Downloads of new terrain are supposedly available, but I cannot find the link to download on the site, or get a sufficient answer to the problem.

Review: This is one of the best games I have ever played. I love it because of all the new features and all the cool stuff. I like the disasters and the control. The Creation of a big city is stuff and fun. The Meteor Showers are really cool. For a weird effect. Cause a valcano on the shore of any water source. I like making lighting twisters and trains. One time a city of mine, with 25,000 population, I caused a disaster swarm. The disasters are my favorite part. When you build a big city with rapid fires, just build a covering fire dept. I like making the disasters occur. That's all!

Summary: Who Is Responsible For This?
Review: Sadly, most of the bad reviews (written by critical thinkers) that you're seeing here for SimCity 4 are accurate. I've been a SimCity fan ever since its earliest versions back in the early 90's. After mastering each version, I always look forward to what great new innovations the Maxis folks can come up with next. There are some excellent new features to SimCity 4, of course. The buildings look more futuristic and realistic, the disasters are cooler, and the ability to tie multiple cities into a regional entity is a real plus. The biggest improvement is with landscaping. In the "terraforming" mode you are able to create remarkable mountains and valleys, cliffs and canyons, resulting in eye-catching landscapes that the Sims can build upon in architecturally intriguing ways. That's the end of the favorable portion of my review. See the other reviews here for the never-ending list of programming glitches that bog down this game. Here are some problems I've been having. The "rotate" buttons work in the wrong directions, when you are told to dispatch firemen or police to a disaster area you can't see where the disaster is, and residential units that are right next to the street say they don't have road access. One enhancement that I do not like is the automatic streets that appear when you lay down large zoning areas. These result in a messy traffic pattern with streets that may not even be connected to others, and then you have to remove zoned areas that you just spent money building. And finally there is the response time and program performance. Sure I don't have the most powerful computer in the world, but it's among the better models that regular consumers can get in the home computer market. That makes me part of the typical SimCity audience, so a game that doesn't freeze up my computer on a regular basis shouldn't be too much to ask for. Plus the installation took twenty minutes and three restarts. Whoever made the decision at Maxis/EA to release this game in its current state made a really bad management decision. There are so many programming glitches that this product should not be in the hands of the public. Other folks here have suggested that you wait until a repaired or updated version of SimCity 4 is released. I don't disagree with them.
