Summary: Close but no cigar
Review: First things first - I have been playing RCT from the start and probably by time I die I will have spent a good two or three years solid on this game.

Second - I loved the original RCT and it's expansion packs.

So, as a biased reviewer this is what I have to say...

1. The game is not perfect - but neither was Loopy Landscapes - how many of us had to get the patch because guests stopped coming once the research was done? So all you harsh reviewers out there please give it a break. I personally have a problem with loading it - The music loops itself like a stuck CD and the game will crash upon first attempt so I have to start over - but once that's done everything's okay. Saved scenarios come up lightning quick and so do new ones.

2. The new themes are a nice try, but the Sports is kind of lame. Pirates and Wild West are great. So is being able to stack scenery.

3. New rollercoaster building area is great - no more squeezing experimental megacoasters into your existing landscape and then having to tear them down again when the barf factor is just way too high. Plus, your money won't run out this way. YAY!

4. I really miss the mountain building feature - though it took up a lot of $ in scenarios. Boo-hoo!

5. One can no longer play on desktop - so much for wasting time at work. Boo-hoo again! :)

6. Am I the only one who couldn't care less about Six Flags parks? I much prefer the more original scenarios or building my own from scratch - I definitely could have done without the pre-fab parks. But some of them are fun, like Magic Mountain (which I've been to a hundred times - that was fun to mess with).

7. Thank god the guests are a little more intelligent - no more building single pathways just to keep them from going in circles. So fewer "it's too crowded here"'s. YAY!

All in all I liked it - it was what I expected. Sometimes though the smallest things make the biggest differences. I hope if there is an expansion pack for RCT2 it will bring back the mountains and the desktop feature at least...

Thanks Chris Sawyer for draining yet more of my life away. :)

Summary: Tons of Fun
Review: Well let me start off by saying that this is the first computer game I have ever bought for my computer and I love it. At first I was a little worried after reading the other reviews because they all recommended that people new to this game should buy the first edition of this game. Well I haven't had a single problem with this game at all. The tutorials walk you through everything so as long as you can follow step-by-step instructions you will be fine, not to mention that the first edition doesn't add on to this one. I can't wait until they come out with some expansion packs for this game because it would be nice to see different stores, restraunts and scenery. My advice, if you want to buy the first edition then do so because you want to not what the reviews say, otherwise jump in feet first and have some fun with this game. There is no need to take this game that seriously, I mean it's a game for goodness sake. I think it's an awesome price for hours of fun. I have had it now for a month and I still play it almost everyday. It's very addictive. Have fun and buy! WOOHOO!!

Summary: Lots of fun
Review: More of everything. More fun. If you liked the orginal you will love this. You can create your own park scenario, you choose the size, the rides available etc. Terrific.

Summary: Very nice upgrade
Review: This game is one of the most addictive you can find. If you never played the original, then go buy it used on Ebay and enjoy it for months. Then, in a few years when that bores you, get this updated version. It is very similar, but with many new features. The best sequels leave the gameplay alone and just expand on the options. RCT2 is a must buy if you like to planning games. Also, building roller coasters will bring out your creative side. The roller coaster design function is awesome. If you had RCT original, buy this now and love it for a few more years.

Summary: Insane! Inforgrames' Best EVER!
Review: This is by far the BEST game Infogrames (and almost all other computer entertainment companies) has ever brought to the stores.
I have played the original game for a year now, and I never dreamed Cris Sawyer could think of this much more. But RCT 2 has it all. There are tons of new roller coasters-they have the LIM powered coaster, the Spiral rollercoaster, etc. You can also build other new rides that aren't roller coasters, like the submarines ride.
And there are tons of new shops, including Star Fruit drink stalls, first-aid stalls, and ATMs.
Guests are smarter, too. They don't get lost and just walk around in circles on large sections of pavement, and they like to watch rides being built, and they say that they're running out of cash.
Tons of new scenery options are available, including queue-line TVs, different bench/trash can styles, and many more sinage options. New themes include pirates, giant garden, and wild west. New music styles are also available, like Rock style 3, Moderne Style and Mechanical Style. You also have the option to build buildings with the scenery - roofs can now be placed atop walls, etc.
Did I mention that the gameplay is also easier, and the different features are much better organized? I suppose not. The best examples are the ride windows, where you have seperate tabs for the music, repairs, etc. Now, you can go to the repairs tab and adjust how often the ride is inspected, and view breakdown specifics, AND locate the nearest mechanic. There are also different entertainer styles--bandits, pirates, etc. are now available for you to clothe your entertainers with.

I'd better stop now if I don't want to be writing the next volume of Encyclopedia Brittanica, but overall, this is the BEST game I've played yet. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Summary: Not for Original RTC fans~
Review: This sequel is such a major disappointment for those of us who have played and fell in love with the original RTC and those expansion packs. Too many choices have been taken away and the real strategy and skill needed in the original game has been dimished. Very very limited graphic improvements, some even negative graphic changes. A few more rides but many of your fun choices for scenery and themes is gone. This pack is a HUGE disappointment for RTC fans and the only good thing is...it will definitely cure you of those late night, 5 hour RTC playing sessions. I played this game less than 10 times now, and have given the thing away. What a huge shame.

Summary: RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 Buggy!
Review: I was anxiously looking forward to RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 after having enjoyed the original for so long.

The official site at one time offered a sneak peak into features which were absent from the original, and hinted that fans could look forward to seeing those features and more in any major future revision of the game. Well apparently this wasn't it.

As others have indicated, it really is a weak offering and lacks anything so spectacular that you are able to ignore the major glitches in the game. I won't list them because I notice other reviews have found most of the same ones I encountered.

What's really sad is RollerCoaster Tycoon seems to have been embraced by educators as a teaching tool for students so I expected much more out of this offering.
