Summary: Disappointed
Review: Such a shame. This could be a fun game, but the online playing server Gamespy and this game just does not click. It constatnly goes out of sync, freezes up, lags and that is if you can find a game.
This game had so much potential, but the poor follow up along by BHG along with all the bugs (there are quite a few), make this a poor buy.

Summary: Best Game
Review: I like Age of Mythology and Age of Empires but this game is somthing very special

Summary: A good game
Review: Rise of Nations is a very good game, it has smooth gameplay and brings some interesting and very cool innovations, such as having different cities to expand territory, which influences taxation income. I would have givin this game 5 stars, but for the graphics. I play strategy games like Warcraft 3 and the Warcraft 3 expansion set a lot, and playing a 2-D game like Rise of Nations is a bit of a let down after the other 3-D games I play. I've heard people say that the AI is too hard, but I had no trouble beating the computer on moderate after a few hours. The AI is very versitile and has many difficulty levels, which is a very good thing in strategy games, as in some games the AI is weak and slow. Even though the graphics are dissapointing, I would reccomend this game.

Summary: Poor design and play
Review: Poor Design. The World map play is dumb. If you attack (and win) the capitol you get all territories of that country (no matter how big). The battles are the similar to the 'Age of Empires' with a few new twists.

I was not impressed.

Summary: DA BOMB
Review: Worth every PENNY beleve you'll be surprised after playin w/ this game! I think its got like over 15 awards from all those game websites. You cant stop playing Rise of Nations

Summary: Good game, no soul.
Review: Some games have character, and this one doesn't have it. It is, however, fun, and like others have said, combines a lot of the best aspects of older titles.

The different civilizations are pretty cool, but I'd like more unique units and fewer economic and military bonuses. The campaign is awesome, but difficult at the easiest setting, as are quick battles. My friend and I are avid strategy gamers and we had trouble going co-op against the two AI opponents on the lowest setting. Its taken us between 8-11 hours to finish skirmishes. So the AI is amazing, but it leaves me with a cold feeling in my heart, like while playing a German killing GIs in Day of Defeat. Its too good.

But I stick more with Age of Mythology, but thats more because I love ancient civs, despite the games inaccuracies.

Oh, and I hate the idea of Wonders, of which there are lots in RoN.

Summary: Great (for a limited time)
Review: I've played this game 2 days and its already gotten tiresome...
Once u become familiar with all the features it tends to get boring, especially with no missions/campaigns or different gameplay options besides the a bunch of scenarios and the usual "survival of the fittest". The graphics and features are however great, and the national identities are quite convincing.

Summary: It gets boring real fast
Review: When you first load this game...WOW, new features and new units. Then after a few plays you realize this is a standard rts click fest with the usual cliches all in a brand new dress. The thrill of the new features fades quickly.

Download the demo and play it for a couple of weeks. If it keeps your attention, then I'm sure you will enjoy the full retail version. If not, avoid this dressed up Age of Empires clone like the plague.

Summary: Crashes on Non-Administrator Accounts
Review: Beware: This program, like many other recent games, will ONLY run properly on an account that has administrator privileges on Windows XP or 2000. That means that in most common home settings, school settings, or in public facilities with shared computers most users will not be able to play this game. If you have configured your home PC, for example, so that only you can perform potentially damaging administrative operations and have protected it from accidental damage by your kids by giving them "limited" accounts (a recommended "best practice" you should certainly be following), your kids will not be able to play this game. Similarly, if you have configured computers in a school in the obvious way, with only certain staff given administrative access and all others limited to "user-level" access, then only the administrators will be able to play the game.
Note that although I agree with the general consensus that Rise of Nations is an excellent game, my feeling is that it this limitation is a fatal one that should have been noted on the box (it is not) and thus I cannot give this product more than a single star, because it simply does not work in scenarios that it should be expected to work, and there are no warnings to this effect anywhere on the box or in the documentation.

Summary: Highly Addictive
Review: The best way i can describe this game is that it's the RTS it seems like i've been waiting forever for. Take out all the bad elements of most rts's and put in fanastic elements that weren't in other rts games and you've created the most nearly perfect RTS ever made called Rise of Nations. Big Huge Games has created one seriously addictive, fun, challenging, fantastic RTS.

I'll be eagerly awaiting the expansion pack. You can bet i'll be buying it the day it comes out, just like Rise of Nations.

This game has so MUCH MORE than just the trial version. Don't be fooled. The trial version doesn't come close to the customization that the full version has. You can play almost ANY kind of game type you want, it's all within your control.

To give you an idea of what a perfect game this is, since buying it i haven't played anything else that doesn't get boring. I was part of the Beta for Frozen Throne and I've either gotten rid of or sold War 3 - war 3 frozen throne - Age of Mythology- i'm not even remotely interested in the AOM Titans expansion and i've gotten rid of or sold even Age of Empires, Star Wars Galactic BattleGrounds and this game makes C&C Generals look like a BIG Joke.

If this game doesn't win game of the year i'm going to be seriously dissapointed. I cannot wait for the expansion pack.
