Rating: Summary: Predictable and bland Review: Very much like Command and Conquer. Missions (But not many), build units, attack, destroy everything, win, next mission, and so on. Its all been done before. You are limited to small hordes of units (<100) that are supposed to represent armies. You basically take your gang and go hunt down your enemies. Its not Epic like it should be, not even close. I see this as a "cashing in" game on all the LOTR hype. They could have made it much longer (Its beatable in a few hours on easy mode) and much more involved. It really lacks depth and richness.Nonetheless the graphics are good and the story is interesting. Overall its a bit dissapointing, but if you are a LOTR fan, go for it, you'll be entertained at least for a few hours.
Rating: Summary: War of the Ring preview by George Bethanis Review: War of the Ring is a great game but there are some problems. Graphics: Very good graphics but not as good as Warcraft III. The landscape looks nice but the units look a little bad compared to games like Warcraft 3 fortunately you can build larger armies and thats a positive aspect. Performance: This is the tough part. I played the game in a Pentium 4 2Ghz processor with 712mb ram and a Gforce 4 128mb graphics card and it wasnt running as smoothly as I expected, I was disapointed. i do not know about how the game will run with ATI graphics cards but I tell you, if you have nVIDIA this game is just not for you. Sides: Of course you will be playing either as the Good guys or as the minions of Sauron but reducing the game in only 2 races sucks. Conclusion: The game is good but if I were you I would wait for the Battle of Middle Earth from EA games and enjoy something more elegant than this or go and buy Warcraft 3, Cossacks etc. I certainly cant stop you from buying it but it is not the kind of lord of the rings game you want to play. If it runs of course because of its extreme proccesor requirements and believe me it is not 300 mhz that the box says.
Rating: Summary: I started reading the books in 1972 and never stopped... Review: Well,in this age of games like Morrow Wind,Final Fantasy XI,Dungeon Siege etc,and given the history (and hype)surrounding Hollywoods destruction of a wonderful piece of work,(Tolkiens writing)you would think that this game would be incredible. You would be wrong. This game is played exactly like a certain game by Microsoft that comes standard with Windows XP Home. The main difference being that this game seems like it was done by Disney, both the graphics and the dialog, and that isnt a compliment. In the first tutorial you are faced with a Cave Troll, and an Elf.They are your instructors.I will call the cave troll Donald, and the elf Goofy.Any resemblance to those characters in the Trilogy is lost on me.You are instructed to "gather resources" and build buildings,You are shown how to make workers to do that. You build a building and it produces "Swordsmen of Gondor",right click on the over-view map on the red dot that is the enemy and as long as you made a bunch of swordsmen, they go and kill the enemy.I also received Neverwinter Nights Gold last week.Comparing the two games is like comparing Pac Man and Dungeon Siege. They both have challenges inherent to play.Pac Man can be a challange(?)as can Dungeon Siege.I prefer Dungeon.Out of all of the games I mentioned,I would put my money in Neverwinter Gold,or wait a month(?)for Dungeon Siege II.Now,this game does have its merits I suppose,if you like Pac Man,but if you really want a game that does what this one claims to,and if you like Dungeon Siege, most importantly,if you know who said"never meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger",then installing this game will be a definite disappointment.Vivendi should heed the latter quote, and stay out of the affairs of thier betters...
Rating: Summary: Less Than Stellar Review: When I heard that there was going to be a Lord of the Rings, RTS (Real Time Strategy game) I was excited after having played the Microsoft game, Age of Mythology which was also a RTS and I got the expansion to that and thoroughly enjoyed it. So I thought, if the gameplay is like Age of Mythology, or uses the same engine with good graphics and no lag during offline play, then this game could be really fun. So I bought it and I put it into my computer, it pulled up and I started playing it. From the first time I played it, it lagged and I found the graphics to be... to put it lightly, less than stellar (refer to the title of my review). However, the gameplay is solid enough, and it retains the Lord of the Rings feel enough for it to be given an "okay" rating. Recently, another Lord of the Rings RTS came out (Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth), and I've found it to improve in every aspect on the other game. Much like Warcraft, it's a "build and army and conquer" type of game. However if you like RTS games, I suggest Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth over Lord of the Rings: The War of the Ring because of the lag and graphics. So overall, I've found War of the Ring to be mediocre and Battle for Middle-Earth more worth my money, and time as well as yours.
Rating: Summary: wow.....its amazing Review: wheni first got i was like...this ios goin to be ok...now i now ita asoome...humans rock.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: You need the latest hardware for this game. I've P4 1.4 GHz with 256M of memory - it is not enough. Motions are jerky - 20 frames per second. Graphics are lacking in details and appears to be 2D animated figures. I expected this game to be like Age of Mythology or AOE. The software piracy routine sometimes prevents the game from booting. Takes a while to boot up not sure if it's buffering the startup movies or something.
