Summary: civilization review
Review: I have to start this review by stating that the first two civilization games are incredible. when i was casually handed a copy of civ I by a friend when it first came out i had no idea that the game would become an actual part of my life. how amazing to control the history of the world... with a game so well balanced that it truly is endlessly replayable. (it really never gets old... never!)

what i have found when people begin playing civilization they do not like it at first. there is no shoot em' up factor, it's not a race car game, it is not a puzzle game, it's not even in real time! i also love chess and if i had to compare civilization to any game it would be chess... though civilization is more based on chance. it is a game you need to spend some time with to really understand... but once you understand it... you will not want to stop playing... (how many of you civilization players have stayed up all night on a school/work night saying 'just one more turn'?) my advice to anyone thinking about any of the civilization games is give it a chance. civ I, civ II, and civ III are the best computer games ever made. the 'call to power' series that are supposed to be sequels to civ II are an extreme disappointment. they are not balanced and not fun to play. civ III is built on the same idea as civ II with improvements to and expansions on some of the most interesting parts of the game.

Summary: Who's pickin' da Banjo here?
Review: I am one of the truly blessed, having been an (unofficial) beta-tester for CIV III. Those who discovered a new meaning for life via engagement in CIV I or II will not be disappointed: for the newest installement contains the essence of the old versions (which made the game the most talked-about of its genre, ever!), with selective (and impressive) upgrades...skill-wise, graphics-wise, diplomacy-wise, combat-wise, resource-wise, history-wise; all of course allowing on-line play. The product's performance, even at the Beta-stage, was very good (or rather, outstanding, if one compares it to the appalling reliability offerred by any Microsoft product...by the way, anyone see the recent revolting motivational video that starred Steve Ball[Bald-)mer? Available on the Net for FREE). Buy this game, and you will loose your friends, your wife/husband, your girlfriend/boyfriend (or both of the latter, haha!), ... the hair on your chest, that nasty smokers-hack (unless, of course, you puff away in front of your computer), your tan (pasty-whiteness by the time you relinquish the game), your will to do anything but play CIV III. Mark the release date on your calendar...or run up into the hills of West Virginia and become a Mountain-man (a la 'Deliverance')-it will be the only way to stop you from playing this game!

Summary: Barbarians
Review: So I'm sitting at dinner with a bunch of academic economists (by luck I'm one myself). The talk turns to the factors that influence the survival of civilizations and cultures. One of the consensus rules is to avoid barbarian hoards. And what gives rise to this logic, as deduced by the members of the dinner group? Experience playing Civilization. What a great game. I only hope that the next version can match up to the others.

Summary: Fun Fun Fun! I give it 5 stars!
Review: This game is really, really cool, and yes, as the title suggests, it is indeed about Chinese food. It has been improved vastly over the original, for it only freeses up when you refrain from pressing any buttons for five seconds, pause, or try to save your game (or pick your nose, or breathe, or not breathe.) Also, the graphics have been extensively upgraded, because they are now in color. You'd just better hope that the problem in which the game seizes control over U.S. nuclear missiles and launches them into foreign nations selected at random has been corrected (rumors of such appeared when the prequel came out.) My favorite part of Civilization 3 was when the I.R.S. audits the non-deductible toilet, thereby preventing the flushing of the Claustrophobian race and enabling (with the help of Richard Nixon) the destruction of the evil communist Zertogerator XVII before the Coming Of The 3rd Booger without accessing mode 17-alpha, which is, of course, very important (as you should know if you've ever played the prequel) because it triples the equilibrium of the indispensable discount coupon on frozen vegetables. That way, you can reduce global warming by the square of the hypotenuse multiplied by the sum of the two sides in a right triangle. (And thereby waste Even More time!) Civilization 3 also has a very user-friendly interface, because you can now use the keyboard and mouse. Help your environment by buying this game, because, in order to run the full 2 Meg. Version, you must first shut off everything you own that consumes electricity (aside from this game, you nitwit!) If you act now, you get a free attachment that messes up your tax forms! Don't let the fact that it's a dos game deter you (so what if it doesn't work if you have Windows on your computer and displays an error message every two seconds.) Buy This Game Now! The prequel too. (Because its there! Don't waste your money on something you actually want!) Then you can get to the end where Bill Gates takes over the world and see the following ms-dos prompt: "Thank you for making Bill Gates even richer!" "Bill Gates Rules-He's a Genius!" "Bill Gates Rules-He's a Genius!" "Bill Gates Rules-He's a Genius!" -add infinitem. (P.S. try typing Bill Gates as your name when you play.) And you are getting sleepy... Very sleepy... Your eyelids are getting heavy... You will buy this game... You will do what I say... You will give me all your money... And your house (or apartment, or trailer, or cardboard box, or whatever the *BLEEP* you live in...) And your kidneys...

Summary: Hope its not cluttered like civ 2
Review: Civ 1 was easy to look at and understand civ 2 you really had to work at making out what every thing was in the cities cause it was so cluttery so hopefully that was fixed

Summary: Check This Out
Review: How about this. None of us have played the game yet, but we can all rate how much fun it is in stars. What a great deal.

Summary: Hopefully the best game ever!
Review: Civ3 seems to be expanding the possibilities of previous Civ games. Diplomacy and trade will be in bigger role, characteristics of different races will be great new addition to the strategy. Hopefully it will support multiplaying in many ways, since the challenge against human is always more thrilling. Now when resources must be retained before you could build some unit. For example to build a legion unit you need iron. Perfect! I love the feature that there is no more caravan unit. Since they were quite boring to use (lot of moving). The fact that the units are supported by the whole civilization no more one city gives quite different view to this game. How it will affect my gameplay will be seen.

I just hope that the conquerroring strategy is not forgotten. Since in previous true Civ game(Civ2) there was lack of possibility to destroy opponents in the mid round. Since you had to develop Automobile and then you could try to attack your opponents. I enjoyed civ1 more just because of that.. I have always enjoyed my game most in the historical era.

I am drooling for this game, hopefully you will be also.

And for those Mac fans: There is discussion about importing this game to Mac. Somehow I believe it will happen, since I bet this game is the most hoped game in many years. Easy to learn but hard to master.

BTW Civ1 is still the best game ever made. (still playing it with my old pc (286), Freeciv has been quite good choise also and of course Civ2). Hopefully not very long :)

Summary: This promises to be a good one...
Review: Civilization is my all-time favorite strategy game and it is very addictive. The game looks complicated at first, but once you get into it, you won't want to stop.

Sure, your main objective is to become the sole civilization and rule the world! But there's much more that that! You must make your empire stronger by building cities, making alliances with other civilizations and of course crushing the weak civilizations.

My favorite part of the game is the ability to discover new building/units by developing research. You can also build Wonders of the World which adds bonuses to your city, civilization, or even the whole world!

Sid Meier is a very good programmer and this promises to be the best civilization (and possibly the best strategy) game ever made for a PC.

Summary: Awesome, unless you never played Civ 2
Review: Civilization II is like the best strategy game ever made--IF you get into it. I got into it a lot and I still play it from time to time. If you've played Alpha Centauri it's a lot like that, except it's earth-bound, and historically accurate. It sounds dumb, but playing Civ 2 is a reason I did well in social studies class--you remember the historical figures, geography, major events in history.

BUT! This game probably won't be exciting to those of you who are new to the game. It's not like you jump right in and it's all exciting--it will be exciting when you are at war and you actually know what you're doing (which units are best for what situations, how to target the right cities, etc). But don't think you'll get into the game on the first day, that probably won't happen--friends have asked me what's wrong with me playing this game that looks so dull where all you do is move pieces like a board game. But once you're into all the units, technologies, opponents, etc, this is the most addictive game around!

Summary: Regular VS collectors ed.
Review: it seems that civilization3 will be out in the middle of Oct. but another version of it - a collector's edtion is due for release 15 days earlier... Well, that's what got me pondering, what exactly is this "collectors"? Since waiting for a game an exciting game to come out is incrediblity annoying, i thought i'd pick the verison due to release first. Besides, I've always been a Sid fan and most of all a Civ fan ;), so maybe my dedication will let me buy the game in collectors. However, when I found out that the first release was actually more of a market stratgy to make more money for basicly nothing, i had to give it another thought... You see, the game itself was actually decleared for release on the 15th - the original civ3, nothing fancy, they said it would be out on the 15th. Then suddenly appears another release date - the 1st of Oct - in the form of a collector's verison, which contains a big hand book for the game (although I can't imagine how much bigger it will be compared to the regular), and a video of "behind the making of Civ3"... So basicly they are advertising the 15 days release date to the Civ fanatics and charging them 20 bucks more just to be able to play early...
