Rating: Summary: A weak arcade game Review: NHL 2002 has proved to be the most disappointing title of this decade-long franchise. Here's my take on it:Pros: * Recent rosters * Improved puck handling, includes lobbing the puck over the opponents' sticks * The ability to gain (or lose) control of the puck without the necessity to knock the opponent of his feet Cons: * Breakaway camera - basically a first-person slow motion mode - is very distracting and hard to handle * Instant replay tends to stop the game in mid play, which usualy confuses the player * Changing coaching strategies has no effect on your team's strategy * Your team members (those you don't control at the moment) have the uncanny ability to position themselves behind the opponent's goal or direcly behind the opponent's player * The player cards system is lacking justification, due to the fact that 90% of cards you will never use, and those are cumbersome to trade away My recommendation: Stick with NHL 99 or NHL 2001.
Rating: Summary: NHL 2002 A GREAT Game! Review: NHL 2002 is a great game that is perfect for hocky fans. It plays Sum 41 inside he arena during games. It's fun with cheats that it gives you, such as "Mile Wide Stadium," which makes the player's all midgets which is good for shootout mode.
Rating: Summary: The Best there is!! Review: Once again, EA has produced an excellent product. The graphics, although barely changed from 2001, are still the best around. The interface has been improved, as its much easier to navigate through. I've played every version of the NHL series, and it always exceeds my expectations. There are so many new little details in this version which make the game better. Basically everything has been improved in some fashion. I highly recommend this game, even if you own a previous version.. Its well worth it!
Rating: Summary: This is the coolest Hockey game out! Review: Pros: Graphics, Game play, Controls. Better than any console hockey game. It convinced me to not by xBox. Cons: Trade system is lame. You can usually trade up across the league. In the real league, there is such a thing as a franchise player. This game throws that idea out the window. The on-line component doesn't work.
Rating: Summary: Great game (once you've turned off the points/cards) Review: Reviewers have already talked about the points/cards issue, so I won't say much more about them. Personally, they annoy the hell out of me so I turn them off. The game itself is incredible. The game play is great, since you can adjust your and the CPU's abilities to assure competitive gameplay (who really wants to win every game 10-0? Or lose every game 1-0?). The graphics are great, the sounds are great too. The announcers are hilarious. The defensive AI still needs fine-tuning, but it's not terrible. The goalies make up for defensive lapses most times. This is the best hockey game I've ever played. The best thing (besides the game play itself) is its ability to be customized to your talent level and your preferences (be it about penalties, collecting cards, etc.) If you're a hockey fan, it's definitely worth the bucks.
Rating: Summary: HANDS DOWN, The GREATEST PC sports game ever!!! Review: The game came, it played, it conquered!!! Every pixel of this game gives you the best hockey action EVER! It is easily the best animated and sounding sports game ever created for the PC. I would recommend this game to everyone, even if you're not a puckhead.
Rating: Summary: Great Game Review: The game is realistic and season mode is fun. The announcing is humourous and the save animation is good. Other than celebrations NHL cards are unnecessary and somewhat stupid. The game story feature and action before the faceoff is interesting at first but becomes annoying. Overall however, the game earns five stars and is fun to play.
Rating: Summary: Warning, not compatible with all systems Review: This game crashes and fails to load on my system. Windows 2000 on a Toshiba Tecra. After calling EA tech support and downloading new DirectX drivers the game still fails to function. In my experience the game is unusable. Beware, because opened software is unreturnable.
Rating: Summary: WARNING Review: This game does not work on all systems. I was lucky to buy it at a store that let me return the package opened. I have a Windows 2000 system, which this game is supposed to support. And I am a computer guy. I tried EVERYTHING to get this game working, and still still still it froze up before I ever got to play a game. What a shame! I tried updating all drivers, updating directX... deleting registry entries, EVERYTHING! Be careful with this one...
