Rating: Summary: Not just a Hockey Fan Game (from a non-fan) Review: This game is definatley one of the best sports games I've ever played. Graphic Wise the Players on the ice look and move exactly like an NHL player would. The facial expressions are always something to laugh at as a player goes down for the count. In the begining of each game you play you can not only give your own players and goalies a boost in energy, you can control the other team's! The Playstation 2 Version is a lot more graphic in the "extras" like the coach talking to the players as well as, players getting mad in the penlty box (they show these in between face-offs) but game wise they are virtually the same. The thing that usually always gets to me about a computer game are the controls since I don't own a joystick, but the controls in NHL 2001 are sinple and easy to use. Another Great feature about this game is the big hits! There are many different kinds of hits that usually result in penilties, but are fun to watch! In NHL 2001 when play is stopped for a face-off they give you an extra 10 seconds in between to get off as many free hits as you want (Great Huh) Another good feature is when you become a player (like when the little colored cricle is around them) they're are simbols to show you if the person is a big hitter (a hammer) or a big shooter (a hockey stick). The create a player mode is great. In games like Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest if your name is known like a Chris or a Ben (popular names) they say it when they introduce you. Now for the people in the world with strange names the game has a bundle of nicknames for you to use, like Hotshot Bigfoot or even Spanky! All created players come out to 95 overall rating so for you people who like to jack up your players it's a no can do feature. The replay mode is amazing. There are plenty of camera views to choose from and you can ajust the zoom, speed, and the rotation. You can also replay up to 5 minutes! If you just made a great goal or a Hard hit you can save it and watch it over and over again. NHL 2001 also has international teams so you can play an Olympic like tournement. What's Hockey without fighting? When two players fight there are only two buttons to press so that you can land lots of hard punches. On the downside it seems more like who can hit the buttons fastest is the person who usually wins. But hey fighting is fighting! NHL 2001 is a great game for all sports fans and the only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the Extreme Graphics of the Godly Playstation 2, but other than that it's a 5 star all the way!
Rating: Summary: Like sitting at a game Review: This game is definely the most realistic hockey game ever. If you don`t belive me consider this. I have had Ice-level season tickets to the Redwings for three years and I can`t tell a diference between being in the arena and being at home playing on my computer.(ok maybe a little bit!), but still this game is a must buy for all hockey fans hardcore or not.
Rating: Summary: Slapshot Review: This game is so awsome. With the create your own player thing you can create yourself and your friends as players or goalies. If I were to rate the grafics:100%,because there so good.On the players is a stick,a hammer,or none. The stick he's a great shooter with a great slapshot. The hammer stands for a big checking guy. If you love hockey you should get this supurb fighting, checking and scoring hockey game.
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD GAME Review: This is a quality game. It is better than expected. That Franchise Mode is a very good. The Free Agency and rookies could have been beter, but for a game coming out in 2000, it is not that bad. the gamplay isn't awsome, but it still is fine. The hitting is great. Some of the big hit can flip a guy over. That is A+ hitting. Shooting and passing is good, and the Goltending & Defense are O.K, but they could be better. The Tournement mode is nice, but there could have been more. The CREATE A PLAYEr thing is one of the elite things in this game. It gives you good options, and has auto modes(For example, if you want your player to be a playmaker, then you scroll down on the bar[you'll find it, don't worry] until you get Playmaker. There will be custom settings to the extent that EA SPORTS thinks a playmaker's talent is. You can change it from there). The shootout mode is nothing spectacular, but it is good enough to be a positive factor in this game. NHL 2001 rarely breaks down, and if it does, it will just be something minor. So, for all NHL fans, BUY THIS GAME.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable hockey game! Review: This is an unbelievable ice hockey CPU game! As long as you have a decent computer to play the game with, the graphics are great and the gameplay is smooth and realistic. Without a doubt, this is the best hockey game on the market right now. I especially enjoyed the Stanley Cup celebration (even though it wasn't that long) when I won the Cup! I'm very pleased to see such a great game on the market. It's so good that I'll be surprised if the sequel (NHL 2002) is any better!
Rating: Summary: The best NHL game yet. That dude from NJ is wacked. Review: This is by far the best game in the history of EA Sports. I was. at first, a FIFA fan( and still am), but when I got NHL 2001, I thought about what I had been doing all my life. This is in response to they NJ person who talks abou the constant crashing, but that is either because the game doesn't agree with him, or his computer ...[is not fast enough]. When I first got it, I played it on a 400 Mhz Pentium 2 computer, and it always crashed, until I used four years of allowance and paper routes to buy a Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz computer. MAN! Does it rock! That's the only problem. NHL 2001 is a lot like FIFA, it requires an awesome computer. Imagine what NHL and FIFA 2002 will require...

Rating: Summary: Causes problems with operating system Review: This looks like a fun game. We have never really been able to play it. We run on Windows 98 and this game causes the system to crash on a consistent basis. EA has obviously had this problem reported frequently but they do not have a suitable fix.
Rating: Summary: Great Game.. read on... Review: This review is divided in to two parts -- those new to the game and those who are questioning whether to upgrade from NHL 2000.NEW: My recommendation is without a doubt to purchase this game. It has cutting-edge, realistic graphics (shapes are not perfect but players faces are), very advanced commentary (immediately after something happens), and every possible statistic is covered. All teams are included and rosters are current. Stadiums are exactly as they are in real life. You can create players, import faces from a picture on to hockey players, and also create game jerseys. NHL 2000 USERS: I'm in this category, and I lived off NHL 2000 for a year. I bought 2001 and started on Pro level expecting to pick up where I left off. Not the case. The game plays more like NHL 1999 (harder to score). I was the master of the wrap-around the net and it is extremely hard in 2001. 2001 includes several more camera angles, similar commentary (Huson & Clement), improved player detail, improved face importing, jersey creation, and the "momentum shift" attribute where it's easier to score if you have the momentum (I like this addition). To me, it was worth the upgrade alone because of the two new expansion teams and to get the rosters current. It's frustrating to get beat 11-1 on Pro the first time I play this, expecting to cruise like I did in NHL 2000. But I figure my interest in the game will last longer if I have to learn how to win all over again. And it will keep my season record realistic.
Rating: Summary: NHL 2001 - The Ultimate Hockey Machine Review: Well, another year, another hockey game. After my hockey game crase started on NHL 98 - 2000, I've been craving more. This is what I was wating for. One of the things that caught my eye was Nolan on the front of the box. And then, playing the demo from pc game world, I was downright amazed. Some of the improvements in the in-game area are the people in the arena. They are all individually and fully animated. Woah. The coaches and managers all talk to their benched players, on-ice conversation is common, and the motions are 100000 times as realistic as any other. "As a gamer, it is your duty to own this game." -Greg Vederman, PC Gamer
