Summary: NOT BAD.... BUT COULD BE A LITTLE BETTER
Review: NBA LIVE 2001 FOR THE PC IS ARGUABLY THE BEST BASKETBALL VIDEO GAME TO DATE, BUT I WAS SO DISCOURAGED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AFTER I INSTALLED THE CD-ROM.

I WAS SO EXCITED TO PLAY THE GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME, BUT WHEN I GOT TO THE SCREEN WHERE YOU GET READY TO PLAY, MY SCREEN KEPT FLICKERING REPEATEDLY. I WOULD SOON FIND OUT THAT THE DISCREPANCY STEMS FROM ME PROBABLY NOT HAVING THE RIGHT GRAPHICS CARD IN MY COMPUTER.

THE THING WITH HAVING PC GAMES IS YOUR COMPUTER SETTINGS HAVE TO BE JUST RIGHT, OR ELSE THE GAME GOES HAYWIRE ON YOU. WHY CAN'T THESE COMPUTER GAMES WORK NORMALLY NO MATTER WHAT PROGRAMS IS ON YOUR SYSTEM? FOR THE MOST PART, THE ALL-AROUND GAME PLAY IS EXTRAORDINARY. THERE ARE MORE FEATURES FROM PAST NBA LIVE GAMES SUCH AS: PLAYING WITH OR AGAINST NBA LEGENDS LIKE MICHAEL JORDAN, MAGIC JOHNSON, LARRY BIRD, DR. J, BILL RUSSELL, AND MANY MORE. FURTHERMORE, YOU CAN PLAY ONE-ON-ONE WITH ANYONE ON THE GAME FROM THE LEAGUE'S MEGASTARS TO THE PATHETIC BENCH WARMERS. OVERALL, THE GAME IS COOL, BUT IF YOUR SETTINGS AREN'T UP TO PAR, THEN YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO FULLY ENJOY ALL THE FUN COMPONENTS THIS GAME HAS TO OFFER.

IF YOU TAKE OUT THE GLITCHES WHICH ARE PRIMARILY CAUSED BY LACK OF SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE, I WOULD UNDOUBTEDLY THINK MORE HIGHLY OF THIS GAME. HOWEVER, WHAT WILL PREVENT THE PC VERSION OF NBA LIVE 2001 FROM BEING AN OVERWHELMING SUCCESS IS BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT IS FORMATTED, IT WON'T COMPLY TO ALL PC USERS NEEDS AND WANTS.

BE ADVISED: EVERYONE OUT THERE WHO IS INTERESTED IN PURCHASING NBA LIVE 2001, MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER MEETS ALL THE GAME'S SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS, OTHERWISE, YOU'LL GET SCREWED OVER BIG TIME! I RELAY THIS WARNING TO THOSE WHO MAY COME ACROSS THIS REVIEW BECAUSE I DON'T WANT YOU TO GET GIPPED OUT OF YOUR $40. THIS TIDBIT OF INFORMATION IS FOR OWN GOOD BECAUSE I CARE ABOUT THE FINANCIAL WELLBEING OF OTHERS, AND THAT'S ME BEING....

EXCELLENTLY SINCERE AS ALWAYS, TELLIN' IT LIKE IT IS AND TELLIN' IT LIKE IT SUPPOSED TO BE!!

Summary: Best B-ball game on the planet!
Review: NBA Live 2001 has out-done themselves for a second straight season. The game was definitely worth the wait. The graphics are amazing, soundtrack is awesome, and gameplay is soooooo realistic. It actually feels like your in the game, literally. EA Sports will have a very tough time making NBA Live 2002 better than NBA Live 2001, hopefully EA Sports is up to the challenge!

Summary: The same old flaws all over again.
Review: NBA Live 2001 has some amazing graphics, some of the best I've seen to date for a baseketball game, but sadly the the gameplay is flawed in several areas. The first very frustrating flaw is when your guy is taking to the basket on a fast break, and the guy will just stop a shoot a little jump shot and miss it, instead of dunking or laying the ball in at times. This is especially frustrating when you use a guy like dunkers when you know they can dunk it, but instead they decide to shoot a jump shot. And even when they gets a dunk attempt, the player will even screw that up too at times. The second major flaw is that all of your computer players are lazy and don't run after the ball, so expect to get your brains beat in on the boards at times. It has been this way for years and I've been hoping they would fix these two huge problem areas. They are so bad that it seems the computer is cheating at times. This game has the potential to be a great game with it's great graphics and sounds, but these two big flaws really hurt the game a great deal. I hope EA Sports fixes these problems next time around.

Summary: Great graphics and good game.
Review: NBA Live 2001 is a good game, and the graphics are great, but just as EA Sports did in their baseball game this year (Triple Play Baseball), they took away more from the previous game than they added (where did practice mode go?). Still, the game is very well made, and as long as you have a good computer (I have a Pentium 4), the graphics are simply unbelievable. Give it a try - have fun dunking with Shaquille O'Neal and Vince Carter, and sink some threes with Reggie Miller and Dee Brown. The legends are fun to play with too - Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, etc. Overall, this is a fun game that all basketball fans should give a try.

Summary: Slashin' to the hole!
Review: NBA Live 2001 is the maximum fun you will ever have out of a NBA computer game. With EA Sports' real life graphics, they make you feel like you're really In The Game! With some new annimations and take your soul to the hole features that including the 1960's -2000 all star teams avaliable for gameplay, NBA Live 2001 is worth every cent that you pay!

Summary: unbelievable
Review: NBA Live 2001 is unreal. The graphics and gameplay are awesome and top-of-the-line. There is no game better than it out right now. I have have been to and seen tons of NBA games, and I would rather play this than watch one. All of the options and differents types of games and seasons you can play will leave you playing this one for hours. The camera angles are sweet and all the sounds are unbelievable. There is no game ever better than it, and it will be interesting to see what kind of game 2002 will be. You must buy it!

Summary: Another masterpiece for EA
Review: NBA Live 2001 keeps with the the great trend of spectacular LIVE games. The new features make this game a wonder and a must for every basketball fanatic! The graphics are outstanding along with everything you'd expect in a real game (i.e. referees' whistles, shadows, shoe squeaks, emotions, intense crowd, etc.). 2001 includes 3-way trades, animated bench, variant commentary, and a new soundtrack. Perhaps the best part about the game is franchise mode. This mode allows you to create a team and play with them for up to 10 seasons. Team chemistry can change, there is a draft, you can sign free-agents, and retire players. If you want complete basketball fun, I recommend you get this game now!!

Summary: awsome Game
Review: OK, this game is awesome. The only thing that bugged me about it it is the point that EA withdrew for 2 months. Anyway the new Trade interface seems very promising. The new interaction between players, their teammates, and officials seems very kewl. the few flaws in this game meybe the gameplay without a game pad or joystick. Overall this is a nice Game.

Summary: NBA Live 2001
Review: The graphics are great, better than that of NBA Inside Drive 2000 (another basketball game I have). The game play is also better than that of NBA Inside Drive 2000 in that you can actually play a competitive game. For example, in Inside Drive, it is easy to build a 20-point, get at least a 80 FG percentage, lead and total about 150 points in a single game (the latter two never happens in a "real" NBA game). That does not happen in NBA Live. Like another reviewer said, there is no practice mode, but I kind of consider the one-on-one feature as a quasi-practice mode in that you just have one player to contend against instead of five.
But in all, a great basketball game, one which I do not regret buying at all.

Summary: Good graphics and gameplay but not much else
Review: The graphics in this game are superb, some of the best i've seen. Fouls are called just as often as they are in the NBA. Different key combos for different moves makes it harder and more fun. Real looking fans and radio commentators. Great one-on-one mode. Now that i'm done with the pros, let's get to the cons. The create player mode has a bug where the mouse messes up, there are no refs, no coaches, no custom teams, only one street court (i think there were more in Live 2000) which can only be used for one-on-one. Hopefully Live 2002 will have just as good graphics with all the bugs fixed and maybe a dunk competition...maybe. Anyways, my recommendation is to wait for live 2002, and hopefully it will come out on time.
