Summary: Enjoyable....!
Review: Let me first note that I'm not a "super gamer"...I'm somewhat older than most and so my reaction/reflex times are slower...I can recommend this game based on my, before mentioned, personal abilities....The graphics are excellent (I have a GeForce 2 Card, Athlon 1.7, 512 Ram, and plenty of Disk Space)...no problem's at all)...The Play by Play Commentary is truly excellent...the best I've ever encountered with a PC based sport game....As pertaining to Gameplay, I tend to play in the lower "ability settings" which works GREAT for me...I haven't played it in the Upper Ablility Settings, so that I cannot comment on those features (the game settings are numerous, so many levels with a multitude of adjustments are availble)...I do enjoy better than Triple Play...So, to summarize, based upon my slower reaction time and adjusting the game for that level, I can heartily recommend MVP Baseball 2003...A great game for slower players (franchise mode is not a great improvement vs. Triple Play)...

Summary: The question: MVP vs. High Heat?
Review: MVP Baseball is a pretty terrific game, and I have been playing for a few weeks now, so I have a pretty good feel for it. Its strengths are the incredible graphics and the rather satisfying interface...I like the pitching interface in particular. That said, for the true "baseball experience," I still have to give the nod to High Heat. I miss the little parts of High Heat's gameplay - having to warm up your pitchers in the bullpen first, for example. Unpredictable weather. The minor league system...everything is just a little bit better in High Heat for the complete package. It's really the little things in MVP Baseball that get a little old. Just a few too many spectacular catches, a complete inability to steal (I have one successfuly SB, and my catcher Paul Bako has thrown out 100% of opposing baserunners - Bako? 100%? Hmmmm...) And I really miss the ability to dump every major league player into a pool and draft entirely custom teams. The computer AI is a little off too...they will yank a pitcher at the very first sign of trouble (give up one run and have a runner on second in the 4th inning - YANK.) Overall, MVP 2003 is a very nice game...worth a look. I expect MVP 2004 or 2005 to be spectacular. For now, if you want a more wholistic baseball experience, I give the nod to High Heat. I haven't as of yet tried the online gaming portion of MVP Baseball.

REVIEW UPDATE: After playing this game for several weeks now, I still find this game quite worthwhile, but I am disappointed to say that frankly, the game is a bit too easy, even on the most difficult settings. Still fun, but I'm looking forward to future versions. Also, my review above gives the nod to previous versions of High Heat, particularly 2001...I have not tried the most recent High Heat. I recommend looking at the reviews of that new edition.

Summary: MVP 2003- Just as good as High Heat 2004.
Review: Not long ago I purchased High Heat 2004. I thought it was terrific. I played a lot with it and started to wonder about MVP 2003; I wondered if it could be as much fun as HH 2004. After a while my curiosity got the best of me;so I bought it.I haven't had it long but I find myself popping it into my computer practically every day. These two games really keep me busy. I'm a baseball fanatic and it's baseball season so I am really burning myself out with baseball (the real kind and the virtual kind.) I figure if I play MVP 2003 long enough I'll go a little bit crazy what with the great graphics and options available. My favorite feature is the way each team is rated so you immediately see how one stacks up versus another before you start playing. The Home run contest is another of the features I love. I highly recommend MVP 2003 for all the same reasons any die-hard baseball fan would recommend watching his or her favorite teams on TV or at the ballpark.

Summary: WHY WHY WHY
Review: ok, i find this game ENCHANTING to say the least ... BUT WHY ON EARTH ... WHY ... in season mode you can only use the team you start with ... to me it defeats the purpose of the entire game ... its not too difficult a game, but without being able to play random games, and the fact that WAY TOO MANY homeruns are hit on each side, which is not only completely unrealistic, but NOT FUN as a pitchers dual seems unheard like EA games of the past, i find it hard to want to play this again ... the graphics and options are INSANE, but some things are just VITAL ... i mean they didnt have to make someone like Red Sox Reserve Catcher Doug Mirabelli look so realistic, not at the cost of essential characteristics. Nomar, Manny, i understand... maybe even Varitek , but Mirabelli, ARROJO ... NO ONE CARES ... ive rented and i liked High Heat better so im getting that ... this game is def tight if you can live with a few setbacks which is why i go middle of the road, but sorry, its not worthing OWNING if the game doesnt reach basic requirements ... have fun, yo dawg marvino

Summary: Good, but not great
Review: Pros:
-outstanding graphics
-Roster updates available to download off of easports.com
-Improved pitching system
-Online gameplay lets you play against another person

Cons:
-You hardly have control over your baserunners (fixed with newest patch)
-Is it even possible to steal a base?

-No home run derby :(

EDIT: The newest patch avilable on easports.com fixes many bugs. It also fixes the baserunning and fielding systems a little bit. Ea games really cares about their games and customers. I am going to change the rate from 4 to 5 starts :)

Summary: Good game, for first version
Review: THE GOOD
a great looking baseball game, that plays really well, with several minor flaws, but overall very good for the first installment in this series. I have a feeling MVP 2004, or more likely 2005, is going to be a 5 star game.

THE BAD
1) the hot/cold hitting zones idea is pointless. Just never pitch to the blue zones, and they'll never hit a home run.

2) base running AI is buggy. Sometime players try to take extra bases at riduculous times (like on a bunt base hit), and they stay put on 2-out hits when they should be running with the crack of the bat, and individual baserunner control, expecially when you have more than one on base, is so difficult, it's almost impossible to get everyone doing what you want before they're thrown out.

3) The opposing pitcher delivers much too quickly, often even before the score/ count is displayed on screen, or before you've had time to take a lead or plan what you want to do.

4) a lot of the small details of baseball are missing, that I hope will be implemented in the 2004 version. Things like...
- having to warn up pitchers in the pen first
- being able to shift alignment around of your defense (with more fine control than there is now, and without reverting to standard alignment for every batter that comes up.)
- more access to stats of opposition and your own team during the games, so you can make substitution decisions better.
- a more advance batting interface ... as it is now you only have to get the timing down, position of swing is handled automatically, which takes half the fun and challenge away if you ask me.

Overall, a very good game. I definitely recommend it if you're like me and need your baseball fix on days there are no games on TV. I really hope they improve upon this good start next season.

Summary: Best ARCADE Baseball Sim for the PC
Review: The new pitching mechanics alone make this a wonderful game to play against the computer or an online opponent. Hitting is pretty much all about timing and whether or not you can tell if the pitch will be a strike (much like real baseball except you do not need to worry about the bat position unless in the most difficult mode). All in all a great arcade sim of baseball and I do mean sim because it seems pretty realistic as the games seem to have normal scores. I like the throwing controls as well, you do not point and throw to a base but simply hit the corresponding base button so you can be shagging a fly ball and just let it fly without having to move your pad in the direction of the base. The fact that you can really overthrow if you want and take a chance at the error is nice as well.

As far as a GM/simulation tool it ranks as OK. You can draft rookies and need to sign players under your cap; pretty simplistic but then again this is not meant to compete against sim only games. I do like the challenges you must complete to keep your job, if you don't make them you can be fired.

This is a fun game for the PC and runs on my Athlon 900 with my Radeon 7200 at good resolution and decent frame rates. It is nice that you don't need a killer rig to run the system and still see what are, perhaps, the best PC baseball graphics around.

Summary: it's NOT in the game
Review: The successor to Triple Play Baseball, despite having some nice graphics and other fancy shenanigans, is, in the end, a disappointment performance-wise. Most glaring is that despite this user running the game on a Windows XP machine with ample memory, the program SLOWS DOWN much too frequently, particularly in situations with runners on base. Additionally, routine plays easily made in previous versions (such as the double play) are inexplicably more difficult to perform this time around. And the decision to have different buttons control which base a fielder throws (rather than have just one "throw" button) -- why???

Bottom line: very frustrating to play. Despite all the improvements made, some very obvious shortcomings significantly hinder the enjoyment of the game.

Summary: Great game
Review: This game is awesome! It is very realistic. You can steal bases, hit batters, drop easy catches, make double plays, and about everything you can do in real life you can in this game! This is a very good game and it worth buying if you are a baseball fan!
