Summary: Same ol` same ol`
Review: I`ll try and keep it as short as possible:

Great graphics and `feel` to the game Personally I didn`t have a problem with the controls but I can see where some people are coming from with their complaints. I totally disagree with the idea of letting the AI take control over the moves of the player you`re controlling. Surely there has to be some skill.

I agree that there is a certain amount of `randomness` to the game. Loads of fumbles and picks can spoil the fun. I played the other night and both my corners left the game with 5 picks each, 7 were returned for a score (set on Madden level). I`m sure there are other people out there who have had their WR with a catching of 90 have a ball come straight at `em and have it bounce off their head! Yeah...happens every day 8-P.

The Franchise mode is a waste of time IMO. While it`s nice to build a stadium, it serves no purpose. There really is no explanation as to why you want to hire or fire coaches, I see no difference no matter who`s in charge. I think this is true of a lot of the game however. It would be nice to get a better description of what the player stats actually do etc. The fact that there isn`t anything is worrying as it leads me to believe that it really is just a bunch of numbers doing random calculations.

As usual the drafting of players is awful. You have no idea as to their stats until you actually sign the player. Surely by scouting the player you`d have some idea in game terms as to their speed etc. Just save you picks and use them to trade for better players. Rarely is it worth signing a rookie. For example you could use a 1st round pick and maybe draft a 75ish lineman. Or you could use the same pick and get a guy who`s been in the league a year and is around an 80! You choose. The whole drafting/free agent thing needs changing.

As usual there is often no link to player stats and performance on the field. You can have a 99 DT having problems with a 70 G who`s as weak as the US foreign policy and he gets no where. The is particularly true of the right defence end who never performs as well as the left. QB accuracy doesn`t seem to come in to play a great deal. I`ve seen QB`s with an accuracy of around 60 pick apart a good pass D all day apart from the 8 INT`s 8-P. I dunno, just doesn`t seem realistic enough.

The playbooks are okay although building your own is grief as it`s a bit buggy.

I`d like to see - bigger off the ball hits; players slipping over sometimes; Fumbled snaps or hand-off (But please not 10 in a game); The ability to consistently stop the pass against the CPU if you had a good enough D; Line-play consistent with the players stats; Weather and pitch surface making a difference; Players getting assists on Tackles; The ability to assign a DB to a specific player for the whole game; A point to having to choose a players hair style other than for when someone knocks his lid of; EA actually listening to peoples suggestions.

Overall - I play the game looking for realism. I`d gladly sacrifice being able to have pink uniforms and a super stadium in return for better features on the field. I reckon all we`ll see next year from EA is a feature allowing you to choose the half time entertainment is on the Superbowl.

Summary: Great game but like others comment AI cheats
Review: Love the game buy it every season, don't really care for the custom tycoon building stadiums end of it though. Who has time for that? Anyway they still need to focus on players jerseys actually getting dirty when it rains or even on grass. The foot prints in the snow is gone from 2003?? Step in detail backwards?? Maybe EA will do that in 2005 or 2006 to hack some more cash off us. Like others have mentioned though the AI cheats bigtime.....I mean very urealistic...you can be up by 17 pts with just over 2min left and by magic the PC will find a way to win...come on guys get real. No other quirks other than that.

Summary: CPU cheating,yet again
Review: Madden 2004 delivers superb graphics and strong commentary as well as an extremely in depth owner mode. Yet, this game is not even worth 10 dollars to a serious player? Why, you're asking? Because of the age old problem of so called CPU Cheating, which is basically when the computer makes improbably things occur. First example, in All Pro Mode, I will be constantly winning games til late in the 4th quarter and I'll have the CPU on the ropes, ball in their territory. Then from nowhere my halfback fumbles, and its returned for a touchdown. If not my halfback, then certainly a magical interception will occur , it will also be returned for 7 points. I have turned down CPU interceptions and defensive awareness from Ai options to about 40 but this problem still persists. My RB is Priest Holmes, who is 93, and Marc Bulger, who is 95 (its 3 yrs in the future in owner mode). Neither of these players should have problems like this, but it constantly occurs, costing me over half the games that are sure fire wins!!!! Secondly, when you simulate, if a player is on the bench for two years and was previously rated 90, he will drop as low as 60, even if he is in his twenties!! I have contacted EA recently and am waiting to hear back from them, please think very long and hard before spending money on this game. I personally think paying 30 dollars so you can buy a game that will make you rip your hair out is not worth it. If you must have a football title, there are other options!

Summary: Madden 2004 Steals the Show of 2003 Games
Review: Madden 2004 has revolutionized the game and has brought the NFL to your home. It is an action packed game. The graphics are outstanding and replenishing. The game is a 100% boost from last years game. If you have been waiting for this game to come out you won't be dissapointed

Summary: owner mode aggravation
Review: Madden 2004 is a little better than 2003 with minor tweaks and updated rosters. It is a much more noticeable difference. I recommend Madden 2004, because there is more moves, owner options and the ai has improved with blitzes and other things. It is good now that it is $20, I bought it since I had Madden 2003 and bascially Madden 2003 now sucks after playing Madden 2004!!!! Do yourself a favor and upgrade to Madden 2004 while its cheap. I can only say that the instant replay went downhill, everything else went uphill.

Summary: Madden 04, best football game ever
Review: Madden 2004 is so much better than 2003. The graphics are better, I love playmaker control, and the overall gameplay is better. There's just one flaw I would like to point out. Sometimes a player will catch the ball in the endzone or past the first down marker and his momentom will carry him out of the endzone or not past the first down marker. If you tackle him there, they still call it a touchdown or first down. It's kind of annoying, but it doesn't happen a lot. Overall, I think this game is the best football game ever, but it could be better. Madden 05 is gonna be sick.

Summary: Madden= The only option for PC Football
Review: madden 2004 is the only football game on the market for PCs.
the game is lower quality then it's cousins on Xbox and PS2, but that game is reasonable none the less. It does have some random occurences though and the gameplay is nothing like ESPN NFL Football. I'd definitely buy that over Madden any day. Madden resembles an arcade game too much and is not true to life. sometimes there are points in the game where the user is winning and then by random chance, he'll fumble his next 2 or 3 possessions or his tackles won't block for him. these problems are very annoying, but the most annoying thing in this game is the bounce-off tackle. Sometimes when u are going to a tackle and you make contact with the ballcarrier, what will happen is his body will turn and you will bounce off of him while he continues running. it happens a lot and the only way to prevent it is to either make every tackle with Ray Lewis or to change the AI in the game. i've found that messing with the AI can help make the game more realistic but overall it doesn't work as well as ESPN NFL Football. The game has many gameplay faults and the animations seem kind of random at times, but the game does have a reasonable playbook and the ratings are reasonably accurate, with a few exceptions, so i'd say this game is average. nothing to get excited about, but if all u've got is a PC, this isn't the worst thing ever.

Summary: Best Madden, Ever
Review: Madden is at it's best in Madden 2004. When i first bought Madden 2003, i thought i could save the $40 next year and just update the rosters online. But i couldn't. When i heard about Madden 2004, i was amazed. They still have the Mini-Camps, which i found very entertaining, but they added a new Owner Mode which i think is awesome, the same contract negotiation, and better system for trading players. The graphics in 2004 seem better than in 2003 and with more detail. This time, i think i'm not gonna buy 2005 because 2004 has everything i need unless 2005 makes something drastic. Bottom Line, Madden 2004 is the best sports game ever.
