Description:
Flight Unlimited has long been recognized as one of the most entertaining and realistic general aviation simulators ever created, and its sequel, Flight Unlimited 2, is even better. Take the controls of planes ranging from a generic version of the popular Cessna 172 to a nimble and fast WWII-era P-51 Mustang as you explore a detailed re-creation of the San Francisco Bay area. The graphics aren't the only feature that set this game apart from the pack. We also enjoyed listening to all the chatter on the fully implemented air traffic control system. Most simulations of this type leave players flying over vast expanses of lonely sky with nobody paying attention to their shenanigans. Buzz the tower or violate your taxiing orders in this game, however, and prepare to hear an earful from the air traffic controllers. It really helped draw us into the environment. Lazily flying around and taking in the sights can get a little dull, but the many canned adventures spice things up by thrusting players into situations that really test their flying skills. Whether it is a pinpoint landing on a mountaintop or precise navigation through miserable weather, we always have our hands full with these challenging missions. Those of you who have Flight Unlimited 3 will definitely want to pick up a copy of Flight Unlimited 2, as the scenery from this game can be imported into the sequel to let players fly from Seattle to San Francisco. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: - Focusing on one small area allows for very detailed graphics
- Wide selection of planes
- Fun adventures
- Some of the best weather effects ever seen in a game of this type
Cons: - Absolutely no combat
- Sometimes air traffic control radio calls don't make any sense
