Summary: Boring to death
Review: I bought JumpGate because someone said, "oh wow, it's the best on-line game i ever played" and "it's like privateer". Well, IT'S NOT anything like privateer, that game was fun. This game is about the same as going to work only it takes longer then 8 hours to do anyway. Ok, ok the facts are:

1. (...)
2. You start the game with a slow ship and can't get a fast one for about 2 weeks of loooooooong hours playing it.
3. No video card need apply (cheesy ships VERY cheesy)
4. Can you say, "loco motion"? I knew you could.

Or should i say boooooring hours, it wouldn't be so bad if there was something to look at but there is not. The ships should be named "Polygon 1" and "Polygon 2" because that's how many they used to model them. The best looking thing in the game is the box. Which brings up another point, EVERY time EVERY time you do ANYTHING even if you dock or change something on your ship you can't do anything until the little robot loader finishes some stupid animation (about 20-30 seconds). The loco-motion ship controls make it very tricky to dock, there is no auto-pilot whatsoever, which means you have to fly to the station, dock with the station (SLOWLY) and make one mistake on a mission and tap something, BOOM, you go back to the last station you docked with. There is no room for error your ship even a good ship will die instantly if you hit something and with loco-motion flight its almost impossible not to unless you go slow all the time. Yes there are breaking thrusters; they take about 1 minute to come to a complete stop from a full burn on even a slow ship. To move around you must travel (again no auto-pilot) from gate to gate, across the sectors, we are talking about 70,000 clicks apart at some points, needless to say that takes forever or about 30-40 minutes a short mission. True there are real people on-line you can talk to but don't forget yourself because your ship will just keep right on going while you type till it hits something. Don't worry though if you sit still you will get attacked by the "enemy" also known as the con-flux they look like pink squid/snails/manta-rays and till you get a real ship can kill you in one shot, they are also a lot faster then you are so if they hang around a sector where you need to be you'll need some other players to take them out before you can enter. They also can follow you through a jumpgate and you won't out run them. Well there is a lot more but let's just say I *HATE* this game (...)

I plan on selling it if anyone wants a copy? hahahahaaaaaaaaaha

Summary: Well actually
Review: I give this game a fair rating. Though you can download the game for free at jossh.com, buying this game is pretty optional if you want the 30 day free instead of the 10 day free trial for this game.

Anyways, the problem with this game is that the graphics are way out dated and the developers refuses to up the sys specs to just make the graphics better, but the game play is excellent with its unique flight engine, especially when its challanging when it comes to hauling commodites. As for the playerbase for this game, sadly, theres not enough players for this game to go around so thats the reason I left jumpgate for a reason. Another reason is that the size of the universe is small. Plenty of useless ships in the game which are not PvP worthy. Plus, it would also take ungodly amount of your time to just practice PvP in the simulator. There is too much work, not enough play. It's like doing your 2nd chores. Dying in PvP is quite expensive as well. The only type of playerbase that is left are the hardcore players.

The learning curve for this game is kind of hard compared to the other space games using arcade flight engine.

If you are new to this game, and a fairly experienced pvper that wants to cause trouble only in the deregulated sectors or play a role as a pirate, I would recommend that you don't do it until this game gets a lot more players just because the whole player base would go after you.

The last I would like to say is that at least they improved the light fighters to make it go faster than fighter class(which is level 26).

I wish my luck to the developers to start putting this game into marketing soon.

Summary: Truly excellent. . . the next generation of massively online
Review: I have been a beta test for Jumpgate for almost a year. This is the game I have been waiting for since Privateer. Yeah, it's kinda slow at times but that's when you can stir up your own trouble :-)

Forget swords and sorcery give me Barracks and Morning stars (for the uninitiated that big guns and missiles).

Summary: Awesome game...if you can get beyond the manotony
Review: I have been beta testing this for awhile and I am very impressed. But be warned, after so many hours the missions can get a bit on the boring side from the long travel times it can take between stations. Later, as you gain higher levels and better equipment, the fun can pick up again as you take on some of the more challenging AI aliens (Conflux). But what really makes the game fun is the role-playing you take on yourself with other players and working together with a squad. Also expect the game to get even better with NetDevils commitment to further the game in the future as it grows. If you dont have to have full blown action combat every minute, then this game is for you.

Summary: This game ROCKS!!
Review: I have been playing JumpGate for over a year now and I must say that the game has yet to get old. It has to be the best money I've spent on a PC game yet. The Graphics are great, the sim is so real you feel like your realy there. The best part of all is the people that play it. Some players like to RP(Role Play) their charater while others are just themselfs. This gams is just to great to discribe...

Summary: Cool game with great promise for space sim fans
Review: I hesitate to give this game 5 stars because I'm not sure it has earned them yet. The online portion of the game is in it's infancy, which has it's good and bad sides. The good side is that there is lots of room for the story to expand and unfold in ways that will make this one of the most entertaining games I've ever played online. The bad is that it can become tedious and repetitive as you work your way up through the ranks.

You do start out the game with the volkswagon beetle of spaceships. Equipping it with the standard loadout provided by TRI. This makes it slow, and mostly useless. This provides the incentive to make it to the next level of ranks and make money. The starting benefits you get depend on the faction you choose which I think is a cool option. There are five factions, of which you can play for any one of three. The ships from each faction are different, but the components are interchangable, another thing I like. To make money and experience you can mine, pirate, kill Conflux (the mystery alien race in the game) and trade. Interaction with other players in the Jumpgate universe is usually pleasent, although there are players who make it a point to just shoot anything that moves. Usually, larger squads (player controlled teams) of fighters will stomp on these people. Balance of play is achieved by players. I would recommend reading the Forums on the website to check into joining a squad as well. Squad play adds much to the game.

Above are a few of the things that I like about the game. I hope Netdevil and 3do enhance it further. Things have changed in the two weeks since I began playing. I would recommend this game highly. Well worth the money.

Summary: BEST space game available
Review: I played many space sims, starting with X-Wing and Elite, ending with Descent (all of it) Freespace 1 and 2, Tachyon and others. This game beats them all by far. It is so unique, because of one simple fact - other pilots in the game are not stupid AI, but people, like you and me. They all have their characters and behave differently. You can join in squads with them or fight and kill a guy, who wasn't nice to you. There is no limit to the game. It's a real jewel - one of its kind.

Summary: An open-ended space-sim roleplay masterpiece
Review: I started playing Jg about a month and a half ago. I've put many hours into the game and have progressed to a relatively high level. I think I have a pretty good handle on the game and can review it a little better than someone who has played for a few days and quit.

JG is a MMOG that is expected to last for at least 3 years. Things move a little slow at first but you need to learn what you are doing to be able to survive in higher levels. I guess you could say there is a steep learning curve. If you're looking for a shoot 'em up space game with no roleplay, look elsewhere.

As I play more I find more and more that roleplaying is an integral and necessary part of the game. There is no set story line per say but a general outline that the players can work within. Much of this roleplay takes place on the jumpgate bbs. Players meet there and make in character posts that actually sway the in-game plots. An example is Squad A declaring war on Squad B in a neutral sector or things similar to this. The plot is only limited by your imagination.

As a matter of fact, the web content outside of the game is just as important as the in-game content. Features on various sites such as best profit calculators, asteroid coordinates, commodities info, etc. are all accesed by alt-tabbing out of the game so you can check these resources while still playing.

If your looking for an extremely involved game that requires more thought with your actions, Jumpgate is for you. Hope to see you in game.

M2
