Rating: Summary: Simple Controls As Well As Great Graphics And Sound: Wow! Review: Freespace 2 is in a world of its own when it comes to excitement in video games. The most enlightening aspect of the game other than the sweet graphics, sound, and controls are the voice overs done during the combat sequences. Its great to be given orders by other pilots during some missions and its great to hear other pilots tell you when they are taking heavy damage. It has been attempted before but has never worked so well. All those little extras add to the realism and heighten the level of excitement. You feel as if you are actually part of a flight team trying to protect the transports or making an attempt to take out the larger than life enemy aircraft. With a touch of a few buttons on the keyboard you have the power to rearm your spacecraft, give orders to your flight team(wingmen) and do a number of things like increase your engine strength, shields, or guns.(A gamepad or flightstick of some kind is definitely a plus) The storyline keeps you involved by making mission performance affect the the following missions. According to how well you perform in earlier missions it determines where you wind up later on.(Realism again) Trust me. Turn out the lights, crank the resolution to 1024 * 768, and turn of the volume. Prepare for a feast of action worthy of its acclaim as Sci-Fi sim of the year. Buy it now or buy it later but just buy it!

Rating: Summary: It was good...but not great Review: I had to review this given the completely hyperbolic reviews everyone else gave. The game simply isn't terrific. Its good, with top notch graphics and sound, and fun to play. The story line is not all that, and really doesn't involve one emotionally the way that Tachyon and X-wing Alliance do. My biggest beef is with the wingmen. They are total idiots; its impossible to keep any of them alive for more than ten seconds. Also, they are pitifully incapable of achieving any but the most rudimentary tasks. "Destroy that" is about as complex an order as they can handle. The game contains more complex commands that may be given, but its too hard to split your attention from combat, and punch in a sequence like C-2-2-1, especially if you have to give multiple orders, or change orders mid mission. Even if you do, they won't get it right. Rank advancement for your character depends on efficient leadership, which is impossible to give. Finally, some of the missions are downright hard, especially considering your incompetent squad mates. I got really annoyed when I had to play one mission eight or nine times, because success or failure hinged on random luck, and literally had nothing to do with flying ability. This game is good, but not as good as everyone is putting it out to be. PS- Why do all space sims make fighters fly as if they were inside an atmosphere?
Rating: Summary: Still the best! Review: I have owned/flown scores of space/flight sims; none is as comprehensively saitfying as Freespace2. The mission progression is linear but the allure of so-called "dynamic campaign" games has always eluded me; perhaps it was their basic gameplay that I found lacking in entertainment value. This one rocks! The graphics are terrific for their day and fine even by today's lofty standards. Amazing framerates even with less-than-state-of the-art machines. The storyline is interesting, the gameplay is user-adjustable from cake-walk to impossible, and the user chooses his own ship, loadout, and those of his wingmates. Too bad the designers are no longer in business because this is still the very best of the best!
Rating: Summary: Freespace 2: A Mind Blowing Epic Review: I have played many, many games, but none have captivated me as Interplay and Volition's Freespace 2 has. This game can hardly be considered a game, more of an interactive epic. I will say that Freespace 2 has mind-boggling graphics as well as awsome music and sound effects, but this above-average rating is not the reason why it stands as the best game I have ever played. Frankly, the plot line is brilliant. The plot sticks to basic human principles and ideas of what a good story is. Freespace 2 is not, by any means, a "shoot em' up" game. As well as an awsome plot, every aspect of the game is well thought out, especially when it comes to names. The idea of the enemy as the "great destroyers" and the "great preservers" is taken directly from Hindu beliefs, as shown in the name of the enemy, the "Shivans" (from Shiva). All names are taken from mythology, whether it be Greek, Egyptian, or Hindu cultures. Many games are plainly ill-concieved and shortly-made. It is obvious, however, that the Freespace 2 team spent many laborious hours creating their masterpiece, and I commend tham for that. As for you, the readers of this review, take my words to heart. Freespace 2 is a solid investment, not only to bring hours of fun and excitement, but also to enlighten your ideas of humanity our place in the universe, and the eternal battle between good and evil.
Rating: Summary: Man this brings back Memories Review: I just got this game from a friend who just happened to not want it anymore and let me tell you,,,I am having fun. Pretty good story and acting is not bad, graphics are still on par. I remember the wing comander games and by far this blows those away. If you can't afford the 95.0 dollars, like who can?
Get it if you can this is a great game.
Rating: Summary: great game Review: i probably own 2 or 3 computer games and couldn't care less about space wars or star trek or other stuff like that, but this is a really good game even if you're not into that stuff. Its simply fun to play
Rating: Summary: LOVE THIS GAME! Review: I've owned this game since it came out (I had Freespace), but I just haven't reviewed it until now. Shame on me. This is quite possibly the best game I've ever played, and I DON'T EVEN LIKE SPACE SHOOTERS THAT MUCH! This game is graphically amazing, it's challenging, the AI is great, there are lots of cool weapons and enemies, there is a good plot, i can play it well with my crappy joystick, the controls are incredibly simple, like something out of a Freespace 2 for Dummies book, and there are lots of cool dogfights and explosions. If you don't have this game, BUY IT! I URGE YOU! If you would consider this game enough to look at this page, BUY THE GAME! You won't be sorry!
Rating: Summary: "Sci-Fi Sim of the Year" is an understatement Review: If you love the action space sim as much as I do, hold on to your hats because this game vill blow it off! I got "Star wars X-Wing" several years ago and played it hard. Back then, it was the top of the line. Now, with the great advances in graphics and sound, realism and 3D effects are minimum standards- without these qualities, a game is doomed to fail in the market. Freespace2 goes a little further though. There are multidudes of fantastic ships and the missions are well designed and though you have clear objectives, expect the unexpected! As for the sounds, narration and voices of characters, Interplay and Volition have really got the goods! They have even gone so far as to get some good voice talent - Robert Loggia (Over the Top, Big), Kurtwood Smith (Dead Poets Society, Star Trek: the Undiscovered Country, That 70's Show), Ronny Cox (Beverly Hills Cop I & II, Total Recall) and Stephen Baldwin. Play is fast and furious. The large captal ships have a devastating "beam" weapon that cuts through about anything and even flack guns!Fighters have superb array of energy and ballistic weapons and are fun to fly. A couple of great features in flight are a toggle that automaticly targets enemies and matches speed. You can even customize your Heads Up Display! Your flight skills do improve with each mission and you can earn medals and rise in rank! I have played a few other games like this and this one ranks near the top. If you play games like "Tachyon : The Fringe" or other mission oriented games, You will love this one!
