Description:
Looking Glass Technologies' Flight Unlimited series continues to excel over the competition with the release of Flight Unlimited 3, an absolutely gorgeous flight simulator that includes enough game modes, flyable planes, and detailed scenery to appease any aviation aficionado. Instead of attempting to render the entire globe, Flight Unlimited 3 focuses most of its effort on a specific area, the Pacific Northwest. Aspiring aviators can buzz the Space Needle, explore Puget Sound, and investigate the Seattle nightlife (though you can also visit other western United States landmarks). Each building and landmark is rendered in accurate detail. Furthermore, if you own its predecessor, Flight Unlimited 2, you can export its San Francisco bay area landscape into the new 3-D engine. The core of any excellent computer flight simulator is the number of flyable planes and how accurately they represent the flight characteristics of their real-life counterparts. Thankfully, Flight Unlimited 3 doesn't disappoint, offering 10 flyable aircraft, including the Beechjet 400A, Mooney TLS Bravo, Lake Renegade 270 Turbo Seaplane, and even a classic "Red Baron" Fokker DR1. The best features--especially to players new to the flight simulator genre--are the plentiful training and tutorial missions that explain important flight concepts and the intimidating controls and gauges. --Doug Radcliffe
