Rating: Summary: Monopoly Tycoon shows a lot of promise Review: Though I was disappointed with Monopoly Tycoon when I first started playing it, I believe it has real potential to be a game that continues to grow better and better. My frustration with the game was built around the fact that 1) it is scenario based, which reduces interest in the overall game, IMHO, 2) it is not turn-based, and the computer characters are free to develop their properties and strategies while the human player is trying to read all of the available menus, and 3) it is difficult to take advantage of the simulation/strategy techniques in a timed non-turned based setting. However, the game was saved for me when I logged in to the MGON forum on the game and discovered that a fan has already developed a "sandbox" scenario. This saved the game for me. Also, on the Monopoly Tycoon web site they have already announced a patch for the game, so this game is going to improve with time.
Rating: Summary: MT has problems on W95 platform Review: I bought the game the day it was released. I currently have W95 OS installed on my PC. For some reason dealing with how MT handles is copy protection file, the game will not allow me to start to play beyond the initial splash page. I have been in contact with Infogrames support over the past two weeks and they have just now realized the problem due to "a flood" of e-mails and phone calls regarding the same problem. They are working on a patch but I will have to give this game 1 star since it was not properly tested on W95 machines. What else did they not do in order to release on time?
Rating: Summary: The best yet! Review: Purchased this and took delivery last week. Soooo good! My son has played it and I am purchasing another one for him to play at home. What more can I say. I have purchased two! Would I do that if it wasn't excellent value.
Rating: Summary: It wasn't what I expected. Review: I had just recieved the game on Friday and I was not inpressed at all. The whole game is not at all like the board game. It's too complicated to play with and there should be a little bit more player construction in the game. Monopoly Tycoon is nothing like the Roller Coaster Tycoon game, with that we were able to design all of our attractions with that game. This game is not at all a Tycoon game. Sorry, but this game just doesn't cut for me....
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: Great game, not too complicated or not too simple. Great multiplayer capablities. Lots of fun would recomend it to anyone who enjoys Roller Coaster Tycoon, Sim City, Sim Tower, or an Monopoly Game. This is one of the best games I have played in a long time and would recomend it to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Should of Been 4 Stars Review: As a veteran of economic strategy games like Capitalism, I was excited to get my hands on Monoply Tycoon after reading all the previews. For the most part I am happy with the gameplay. For those familiar with the old video game versions that were basically recreations of the board game with flashy graphics, will be surprised of the nice makeover that has been given. Instead of a turn based it's now real-time where you are no longer rolling the dice. The game board has been transformed into a tiny metropolis with the blocks named after all the original properties. The goal is to become the next Bill Gates, controlling not only the most properties but business as well. On each block you have the ability to build and manage a large amount of businesses from butcher shops to bars. You will need to survey the city to find the needs of the people that are walking around to see what's needed to be built. Deciding your location is important as well, making sure you are not miles from apartment buildings and subways. You will also need to decide the quality of your merchandise as well as price and the amount of it you want to stock. (Unsold stock must be written off at the end of everyday, so making sure you purchase only what you need is important.) Besides businesses, you can also own apartment buildings for people to live in. If you purchase any of the utilities you will obtain the fees each business pays to that particular utility (example: Water Works gets the water bill paid). Overall the game has been completely redone with the only carryovers from the board game being the names of the streets, auction bidding for properties and random chance cards that you receive that may or may not help you build up your empire. The AI is somewhat difficult, with the only drawback being the computers unawareness to cut its prices when you cut yours. There for it's somewhat easy to steal their business. However one business is not going to allow you to win so there is only so many instances where that will work. Finally the reason for only three stars instead of four, is the inability to save the game in skirmish mode against the computer. For people like me who get bored of scenarios and just like to take on multiple computer opponents will be disappointed to find out that you can't save the game to come back later. You'll have to finish your game at that sitting. However, I have seen a lot of grumbling about this on the companies message boards so I am sure a patch is in the works!
Rating: Summary: A lot of fun! Review: Great game! Very addicting. The AI is especially well done; be prepared for a real challenge. The multiplayer feature using Gamespy works well and lag is usually not a problem. A+
Rating: Summary: Very well done combo of strategy game and Sim Review: I just received this game and have found it to be suprisingly fun. The graphics are impressive (the 3D engine is particularly well done), and the game as a whole is very polished. I had very little problem learning how to play, as 12 detailed training sessions are provided. The sound and music are very well matched to the pace and tone of the game. I have not yet tried the multiplayer option, but if it is as well designed as the rest of the game, it will be a treat.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST GAME!!!!! Review: This is the best game I have ever played! It is definitely worth every cent! It is very addicting, so be careful! So fun. The ONLY con is that it not as much like the game Monopoly as I expected. I really liked the fact that it was not hard to build the buildings like THE SIMS. It also has good music.
Rating: Summary: The Ultimate Sim & Tycoon Game Review: The guys at Deep Red have done it again. The last time I was driven to write a review was when I had lost an entire weekend playing Risk II, created by the same bunch that have developed this little gem. If you're into tycoon games or the best of the Sim games, you will surely love this baby. It will blow your Monopolies clean off! I've not long had my copy because I had to import it, but I've barely stopped playing it since I tore the pack open. The AI provides great opposition, the 3D is genuinely gorgeous, the learning curve is nice and shallow, the entire game oozes quality from the moment you install it. I've just finished playing 10 hours straight over a LAN with my girlfriend. She's got bigger monopolies than me but boy, did I have fun beating her, and winning the race to be Mayor. The scenarios are so varied - in this one all of the citizen's of the city vote each day for the player that they want to be Mayor. How cool. I guarantee, if you're like me, it will turn out to be the best 40 bucks you've ever spent. Be quick though, it seems to keep selling out. I guess that's confirmation of the fact that this is one awesome product. Way to go, Infogrames - this is your best yet!
